Amputees & wounded
Just received my new DAV magazine an in it, it shows some pictures of young soldiers mostly without both legs. It really makes me sick to see this and wonder why. Here are young guys with wives and daughters that will never be the same again. How many more are going to be killed or wounded before this is over. Why doesn't the media publish pic's like this on tv or in the paper for the american people to see? My heart goes out to all these young soldiers and their families.

Well, why don't we just walk off and make these fine men and womens sacrifice all for nothing.
If you talk to them, they are proud of their service and want us to continue until we succeed. Don't cut and run and make their loss and service go in vain.0 -

I do have one thing, though, as long as we're talking about an "all volunteer" army. Someone posted here that the risk of joining the army is going off to war, and what did they expect. Now, that being the case, would this same poster "thank them for their service", if in fact, they CHOSE to do this, they got their pay and got their benefits?
I did make points about them volunteering, so if you are talking about me, of course I would thank them for their service and their sacrifice. And I actually do it, as I am member of the American Legion and we interface with returning vets all the time. And in my full time job, we have had many reservists and guard members called up and some of them have been killed and others gravely wounded. We do all we can for them and their families. I personally have had colleagues killed in combat since 9/11, and have many friends in nasty places right now.
And I too made the comment about all voulenteer.
And I too talk too and thank these vets! I am at the VA a minimum of 2 times a month and see these vets, and I also go to Ft. Jackson very often and see alot of them that either just returned or are on their way over.
Every time I am at these places I am constently shakeing hands and thanking them for their service and sacrafice.0 -
I don't think anybody (right, left, or in between) has the right to say with certainty what the entire armed forces thinks we ought to do.
Everybody wants Joe on their side. Saying that Joe supports your version of the truth is a cheap political trick to try and boost your argument, because it reduces a entire group of individuals with varying opinions down to a singularity, like "Rich people" or "Black People".
It also takes advantage of the fact that many soldiers truly aren't in any position to voice dissent even if they have any. Whether they don't think it's their place to question their leaders, or they're afraid of reprisal, I'll bet there's a lot of both.
And this is precisely what I saw coming a mile away in my first post.0
