Estate sale finds
I got a call from a buddy of mine Saturday night. He said he had gone to an estate sale, and they had a bunch of old guns and swords. He had no idea what kind they were, but knew I was into the older stuff.
I got there Sunday morning, and picked up these items. I just wish I had been there Saturday, since these were the "leftovers". [:o)]

I have for years heard of others luck finding bargan firearms at garage & yard sales. Well yesterday was MY day. Two sisters decided to sell off one of their deceased husbands items. Said he died several years ago. I was the first one there as they were located way out of town. Picked out these 5 guns and they thought $100 each was fair. Had I not bought them the next guy would. So here they are. Golden Eagle 7mag W/Leupold VXII, Ruger 10-22, S&W 57, S&W66 & a S&W37.

I think anyone following this thread would have to agree the two little old ladies had no idea the value of these items at fair market value, I put a fair price for the lot at around $2000. dollars. Maybe I just have a concious and some here don't. Fair is Fair a agree, Taking advantage is a whole other thing.0 -

I guess we will have to take you at your word that you wouldn't have grabbed them, handed the women the money and ran home. If you gave them more than they were asking, good for you. Would you do the same thing at a garage sale? At a gunshop with an unknown collectable with a non-collectable price? At a gunshow with a mismarked gun?

If they were so stupid as to not get the "real" value of the guns before selling them, too bad. Stupid people lose.
Honestly, I'd have done the same thing, as would 99% of you.
Most likely, the women didn't need the money, and just wanted to get rid of the guns. If they did need the money, they should have done some research! They could have went to any library and looked up the values on the computer, or in a Blue Book there.
I don't feel sorry for them.

You know little about me but you seem to think you do. I have learned that taking adantage of someone who obviously does not know the value of an item, in my mind is the same thing as stealing.0 -

I know nothing about you. That's why I asked the other questions you didn't answer. It's not stealing to pay the price someone is asking for items they have for sale. What are the answers to the other questions?0 -
Really now, what are these ladies actually going to do with these guns? Auction them off on GB? Not likely. Walk them through a gun show? That won't happen. Take the whole lot into a gun shop and ask the owner to make them an offer? We all know full well that he'd offer next to nothing. They set their own prices on guns they don't want/need and got their money. Clays got a nice deal and everyone is happy...except for someone! 0 -

My point exactly. I've seen women turn their husbands guns over to the local police after their deaths because they didn't want them around and didn't use them. These ladies want $100 each, and that's what they got. I'll bet they're glad the guns are out of the house.0 -
I'm sure the wife was just looking to get rid of them, not make a million bucks from them. At least they went to a good home. I wish I could have ran into a deal like that. That's $500.00 she didn't have before. After all it was a garage sale. Everyone knows you can make out at a garage sale. items go for a cheap price. I'm sure the wife was happy with her earnings at the end of the day[;)] 0 -

I personally take pride in telling someone who does not know the value of an item, what it is worth. I have done it dozens of times at garage sales etc. I would at the least in the situations you mention above, ask/tell the person that the item is worth more and then if they still want to sell it for what they have marked, possibly buy it.0 -

I have no problem with what he is doing thats his business, I remember one time my kid accidentally hit the BIN on an auction, I contacted the seller and explained and everything was cool,I don't know if that would be the case with HobbyGuy, thats why I will not bid on his stuff even if he had all the items the guy got off the old lady at $100 a piece. He's just a little to stiff for me.0 -
A guy I shoot with bought a Harley from some lady at $3000 at a garage sale. She said she had no use for it after her husband passed and she didn't even know if it ran. He told her it was worth more than $3000 but she just wanted it gone. 0 -
