New Car Dilema
I dont know what to do. I want a new car/truck/SUV. Right now I have a 2000 F-150 4x4. It gets horrible gas mileage but still runs well. I hate parking it and I hate paying for gas. I want either a newer smaller truck or a midsize SUV. Choices are a new toyota Tacoma 4x4 or a Nissan Xterra. I think I want an SUV but I know it will be about $5,000 more than the truck.
Are the Xterra's actually rugged and tough or is it just a new marketing ploy by Nissan ? I want to do offroading but nothing serious.
Oh and I am also just thinking about keeping my truck cause I dont want to pay for something new. I hate spending money.

If you choose to buy, go with Toyota, especially the 4-door. Look at the resale value on 4x4 Toyotas. Unbelievable resale! 0 -

Brand new? Spending almost $30,000 on a vehicle that's only going to get within two mpg of the truck is something I wouldn't do. The Xterra may even get worse mileage. My wifes 2001 Xterra mileage gets about 13 mpg.

You are going to have to fill up alot to save 5G's at the pump. if math is right and you are only saving 2mpg you will have to buy 833 gallons 0 -
dodge. mine loaded so it's almost dragging the exhaust pipe on the ground did 20 mpg on average all the way on hwy 80 from san francisco to colorado springs. 0 -
[8D]This is an old picture-My 2006 Nissan XTERRA gets about 22 mpg on the freeway,(not in 4wd) , goes MOST places a Jeep Rubicon can go and (SLEEPS IN SECURITY)--

Well whatever you do stay away from the Jeep Grand Cherokees. They are sweet to drive but require a lot of expensive maintenance. I had two bought them new and kept each for five years. The last one cost me 7K in repairs. They do 18-19 on the highway and 13 in town in V-8 trim.
I too, suggest a used Camry or Lexus 300. They will get 26mpg in six cylinder trim and 30 with the four and run for well over 200K without much problems.0 -

toyota trucks are made in america. also, nissan has a headquaters in tenn that employs almost 10,000 americans i think. ford makes much of their stuff in mexico or canada.
plus, i dont mind giving money to a japanese country. they are a great ally and a great country. WWII is over and america and japan move beyond that and we are now friends. if you hate japan then please die soon because they friendship our countries have now is benificial to the whole world and every member of each country.

dont know about new cars mayo, i stopped looking 20 years ago and never owned a new in my life.
best way to buy a new one is to walk back to the service area and see what has the hood open the most, then avoid it.[;)]0 -
[8D]--Yo OJ, 265 HP, very applicable in 2wd and the close to 300 ftlbs,of torque is damn near unstopable -off road--

My 2003, FULL SIZE, extended cab Chevrolet Silverado 1500 gets 25.0-26.2 at 80 mph, WITH the air conditioner on, travelling on I80 (across the Rockies and the Sierras). Only mods - aftermarket muffler and tailpipe.0 -

better flowing exhaust can be good for a few extra horsepower and about 5% better gas mileage if done right on a stock car. 0 -

uh.....well its 3.30 in my city. its a concern but doesnt really change anything. i still need to drive. i do ride my bike a bit more though 0 -
