Favorite Caliber?
I know this may have been asked several times, but lets bring it up again for old times sake.
1. What is your favorite rifle caliber?
2. What is your favorite handgun caliber?
3. What is your favorite caliber as far as dream gun or mystique of owning?
Also, what is your reasoning behind your favorite caliber?(EX. the game you hunt recoil, or cost of ammo, etc.)

I will start it off.
1. What is your favorite rifle caliber?
.243 Winchester because it is the most versatile for the game I often hunt(small game up to deer) and brass and ammo are readily available.
2. What is your favorite handgun caliber?
Probably .22LR just because it is cheap and fun to shoot and will still put the hurt on a home intruder.
3. What is your favorite caliber as far as dream gun or mystique of owning?
Probably 45/70 or .375 H&H simply because of their history and effectivness on all game.

My answers may not be of the norm, I am a wildcatter with a flair for the exotic, so bear with me:

22LR, I just shoot more 22 than anything else, it is very accurate and cheep to shoot.

1) 7.62x54R - Surplus rifles are cheap, and there's a fair variety of .30 calibre bullets for reloading.
2) .22 Short - Can shoot without hearing protection, cheap. Perfect for plinking and Olympic-style competitions.
3) .416 Barrett - I'm a big fan of pinpoint accurate rifles. The idea of a highly-accurate, supersonic bullet out to a range of beyond 2 kilometres is like a dream. (especially considering it's not banned in the Land Down Under or the People's Republic of California, unlike the .50 BMG...)0 -

3. I already own most of my dream guns and they are .223 or .308, so either caliber ... the ones I don't have, like the M-60 and S.A.W. I likely never will, so I don't worry too much about them.
I'm very comfortable with all three rounds, I reload them all and understand their ability and limitations ...

.338 Decent size rifle for a hunt, somewhat easy to carry and has the range and stopping power for about any job.
500 S+W Mag Once again nice gun for hunting (stopping power and range) if you are big enough to control it, it will drop anything.
50 BMG BIG BLACK EVIL RIFLE[:D][}:)], will bring down anything and with the right ammo will penetrate anything.0 -

cost and availability of ammo, accurate and 100% dependable round, and the reaction to the people around me shooting those puny .380's when I send a round downrange (ha,ha).0 -

Rifle = Equally divided between the .308 and .243 and .270. The .270 to hunt with since I do mostly deer hunting.
Handgun = .44 mag. Have good knockdown power and are very accurate.
Mystique round to play with = .300 win mag necked down to shoot a 6 mm bullet. Yes Duncan can make them for around $2000.00+.
Mystique gun to own would be a = Sig Sauer SSG 3000 .308.0 -

I just hit the quote button for kimberkids because when I read It It mirrored what I was going to type.
I do not get overly excited about the exotic calibers and short mags.
Other then my favorite calibers I hunt big game with 7mm magnum and am also fond of what happened with the whole 50 cal and 416 barret in California.
My Dream rifle would be a genuine Remington M21 from the Viet Nam War era.0 -

#1 my alltime favorite is the .257 ROBERTS,,,the most accurate and deadly round on almost all game[:D]
#2 since i don't hunt with a pistol,,,the 40 S@W would be my favorite in the pistol category only because of carry[:D][:D]
#3 this is a hard choice but i would have to go with the 500 S@W in a 4 inch barrel,,,easy to conceal and most deadly on anything.[:D][:D][:D]
please note,,,the .223,,,.243,,,and the 30-30 are other choices for #1
the .357,,,.44 mag are other choices in #2
there is no other choice for #3[:D]0 -
My all time favorite is 45-70 no need to track a deer after shooting it. As it is down on the spot.<1fmj> 0 -

.357sig: Near 10MM muzzle Energy, flat shooting.
Gun I want: Savage .22 Hornet over 12Ga Shotgun.0 -

Favorite handgun: 40 S&W Beretta 96D (bought from the state when I retired)
Favorite dream gun: Colt Sauer 7mm Mag. (didn't want to spend the extra $25 in the 70's and bought a Remington instead. Bought after I retired in 99.)0 -

454 Casull, one of the best elk pistol cartridges.
