If you hated that bad, you should be shouting and dancing in the streets because they didn't call you back! Where are you located? LOTS of big chemical plants around here because of our port facilities and access on the Ohio, TN, and Mississippi Rivers. They are always hiring chemists.

Sorry you lost your job, but it may be a good thing. Sounds like it wasn't a good job to begin with. I believe you will find somethig better. Remember, HR people are experts at body language. Use that body language to show belief in yourself and they will read it that way.

I know you don't believe in it, and I respect your beliefs, but I'm saying a prayer that this leads to a better job and a better life for you and your family.

Good luck and God bless. You deserve better!

So now you have the chance to better yourself. If this wouldn't have
happened you would still be there for however long and be miserable
with your job. Maybe this is what you needed to get you to a better
job with better pay and a better work environment. I wish you good
luck and hope you get the chance. Besides where you were working
sounded like you would eventually end kickin' some azz and gittin'
    into a mess of trouble.

Corporations being bought out by foreign investors and demanding a profit no matter what..........Americans pay the price.

Sorry to hear it. Everyone in my family has gone thru what you've gone thru.

I am waiting for my notice of losing this job. Supposed to hear this month when they plan on selling us out.

My grandmother lost her job making shoes at a factory in the early 80's. My mom lost her job at a factory in the 90's...both factories went to China.

This one is funny as heck....my dad worked for over 30 years for a company....that was bought out by foreignors.....they robbed the people of their retirements with the buyout and he was supposed to work until he died I guess........

He just got busted for a DUI and will lose his license for a year. Has to quit and will be homebound for 1 year in the Great State of Pennsylvania. He's 60....entire family moved away to get jobs so he's on his own.

Don't have a clue how he's going to get food. He can't drive. Guess he could always get a horse to get to town.

I have a slight feeling he might go postal...what's he got to lose? Can't work to even make money to pay his taxes on his house or the powerbill.

    America is phakd.

If you have a Chem degree then you need to be looking into oil. One of my close bud's sister graduated, worked in a college lab for 3 years barely making ends meat. She got a job with chevron making 80G working 12 days on 12 days off in the gulf of Mexico.

One of my wife's best friends has her BS in Chem, she is working in a P & G faculty for some other company testing products. The girl is smart, as smart as my wife, she had to get a second job at walmart to pay her student loans. [xx(]

There are labs around here and chemical plants always looking for
lab rats. There are also private labs that tests for quality control
of products for the plants. Caleb Brett is one of them My son worked
for them for awhile. BASF is a big plant down here also. Good luck

I'm very sorry to hear that you got laid off of your job, especially at this time of year. Hopefully a better one awaits you in the near future.

yeh.. well.. I been stuck with this job for so long, because I had too much stuff to do at home first, I felt like I had a ton of bricks on me. last few months I've been working at it day & night, taking out the trash in my life, lightening the load, I was working so hard at it I got a LIST of stuff to do every day, & update it every night, now I can go at it full blast. especially over the xmas holidays. it's like hacksawing off a 100 lb ball chained to my leg.

like, look at my front room.

oh yeah it's good to not have to go back to that job, but I'm afraid of running out of $$$ and landing another crappy job. I mean, that's what got me that one in the first place, I was desperate for a job.

as long as it all turns out ok, this would be fantastic. but it never has turned out ok.

It sounds like you were miserable and the place sucked so look at it as a gift because without them moving your butt out of there you might well have stayed another five years.

Create a new line of automotive paint that is ethanol based.

$2 a gallon for ethanol (E-85)......heck of a lot cheaper than Dupont's Enamel Reducer.

Big $$$$ if you could start up a paint company of your own. Could drive up demand so much they'd quit using it for fuel in cars tho.....

Funny you should mention that. I knew a chemist that worked at the lead smelter until they laid us off (went non-union. He quickly got a job at a paint factory, and been there every since (20yrs).

You have a BS in chemistry and only make $12.50 an hour? What state are you in?

Manlift...guy found bound and shot on the tracks behind the place...sounds like you were working at the old Pillbury mill on Shreve Avenue off 70. What a crap hole.

They had both and it stinks in there, but I thought it closed a few years ago.

Place sounds like a bunch of monkeys in a www.careerbuilder.com commercial.

Buschmaster seriously look into the oilfield for work. They work you hard, but most of the companys take care of their people. I've never heard the horror stories some folks talk about on here.

EDIT: By the way I worked for a temp company when I was in between jobs. That lasted 1 day! They suck get on with a good company I'm sure you can do it. Good luck.

Isn't there a some kind of law that says a company has a hire a Temp employee full time w/benefits after X amount of time? I've never heard of anyone being a Temp at the same place for 4 years.
The reason he only got $12.50 an hour is likely because the Temp Service got 1/3 of his actual wages. IMO if you stayed 4 years thru the BS you describe, as a Temp for only 2/3 your value wages w/no benefits, you're a glutton for punishment.
The timing for this is unfortunant, but it's PAST time to move on from that situation.

That sucks - especially at this time of year. You are better off without it. Your co-worker should be the biggest eye opener. Work there day in and day out waiting for retirement, then have a heart attack.

You spend most of your waking hours at your job, if you do not enjoy it, then you are spending most of your life in misery.

Good luck, I am sure you will bounce back!
