I never ask or even tell her for that matter. In my business, I can spend $50,000 plus for inventory in a single day. She doesn't ask about what I buy for my business nor does she ask what I buy for toys. She is just grateful every day when she comes home that the light switch works and she has hot water for a shower. In other words, as long as she is cared for, what I buy is none of her business. 0 -

Considering the amount, she has her "fun" money, I have mine.
Neither HAS to "consult" the other to spend it.
If she buys something, she will show it to me when she gets home, I do the same. I have NEVER had to hide a gun or tool that I bought from her, or sneak it into the house/shop.
For big ticket items for the house, we usually consult with each other. Then go buy it. Mostly just to make sure we both like the color/design/etc.0 -
Man what a bunch of b.s.ers, except for you divorced guys. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I am the only one married to a woman who sees no purpose in owning more than one gun, motorcycle,workbench with overhead light and locking drawers, fast car, comfortable car, convertible car, truck for hauling trailer, camper, boat etc etc. Women think they are going to live forever or atleast longer than you so they pinch those pennies and make you do the same when they can. I think you need to find a balance between having fun now with some toys and having some left over in case you make it to retirement age or 55 which ever comes first. 0 -
I consulted one of my local pawn shops yesterday and he informed me that I had spent over $3600 on guns since March of 2006. The wife knows about most of them. I didn't ask the other pawn shop. 0 -

When I bought my truck, I didn't consult the wife, now the ex; I just did it. I needed one so I bought one.
I have enough "stuff," and rarely buy anything unless I have plans to re-sell it.
The last appliance I bought, I did consult Dawnie beforehand. We had this huge chest freezer in the garage. It was old and ugly and way bigger than we needed. I decided to replace it with a new and much smaller unit that would fit in the utility room. There were two at the appliance store that would serve. I had Dawnie meet me at the appliance store and select which one. I then paid for it and brought it home.
We gave the old freezer to one of Dawnie's co-workers who has a large family.0 -

Vehicles are rare purchases and I discuss but my car is my decision.
Things like guns, I rarely buy expensive items but last year a very expensive (to me at least) item became available and it was "buy now or someone else will" so I did. She was startled for a moment when I told her about it later but then recovered and said that we should spend money (as long as we can afford it) as we wish without recrimination.0 -
Seperate finances here. I pay all the bills. She takes care of her own stuff. Anybody that hands over their paycheck on pay day to a woman and then grovels for an allowance out of it is nuts in my book.
I had to take care of bills before I was married and I don't mind doing it now. I'd rather know than not know.
If I do tell her I want to buy something she normally says "why ask, you're going to get it eventually anyway." Amen.0 -
