Destroyed bullet puller
Was trying to remove bullet from a 6.55 Swede when the plastic puller exploded in my face. Glad I had glasses on. Little bits of plastic all over the place and no idea where the collet ended up.

was pulling some 375's and had the same green plastic do the same thing, what kind are we going have to go to to prevent this again?

did the primer ignite in the round?? the inertia pullers have had some instances of the "blow" causing the primer compounds to combine, and ignite the charge. There is no chamber to contain the pressure and cause the high PSI's you see in chambered rounds,..but it is enough to break plastic like that. 0 -
Get a Quinetics Corp. bullet puller. I have broken two of the Frankford Arsenal ones..Plus the Quinetics only uses on collett for every caliber from .380 auto and up 0 -
If its RCBS call customer service and tell the lady what happened and she'll send you a new one no charge. I've had two break. First the plastic handle broke the second broke similiar to yours. 0 -
Plastic bullet pullers = crap, a perfect example of planned obsolesence. Frankford Arsenal, RCBS, they're all the same crap just a different color. 0 -
I have used my plastic bullet puller for years and never had a problem. Mine is a Midway (pre Frankford Ars) and they do their job. Glad you were wearing glasses. Plastic breaks sometimes but that doesn't mean they are jun. Looks to be an RCBS and 41 nut is right call RCBS cust service and they will replace it at no charge. 0 -
I always thought using a hammer-like device for removing bullets was a bad idea, glad you weren't hurt. are there other options that don't damage the bullet? 0 -

Save you money and just buy a real bullet puller ... It's about the only thing I use this old RCBS single stage for now days. I've still got a few thousand rounds of 8mm Turkish Mauser ammo that I pull the bullet, then reload at a reduced and uniform charge ... its amazing how much difference it makes when all your rounds have the same charge in them [:o)]
You put your bullet in the shell plate, raise the ram until the bullet is in the collet, tighten it down and pull the ram arm up ... and the bullet is actually pulled from the brass.0 -
i've wondered if that had ever happened, i've always been leary,to use mine only if i have to. just doesnt seem to be the wisest thing to do. like keeping a pocket full of 22lr in your pants pocket while fighting a forest fire.

[8D]-Like BHAVIN- I got mine years ago from Midway and have pulled (inertia)bullets from 300 mags to .223 rems and ALWAYS struck 3 to 4 times SQUARELY on 2x4 with solid base-no problemo--

Likewise on the blue Midway puller. I've pulled hundreds of 9mm and lots of surplus rifle ammo. I've heard of guys being hurt pulling military special purpose stuff but it says in the instructions not to do that. Mine could pop the next use but I'd replace it because it's just plain handy. 0 -
I just bought one, just for pistols. I have one like kimberkid's, but it only works on rifle bullets. BHAVIN, do you tap on wood until the bullet comes out, or is it just one hard tap? 0 -
I posted a similar incident a few months ago. Fortunately for me the primer popped out of the case as it was exploding and the amount of flash into the powder was insufficient to ignite the fifty or so grains of powder. However not to miss the opportunity to learn, anymore dismantling of cartridges is done by the collet style press based puller. anyone want a like new RCBS inertia bullet puller? 0 -
I was always under the impression that those type of pullers were for Pistol only. I dont know where I got that but that is what I thought.
For rifle stuff I have a collet puller on my RCBS single stage. Sometimes it leaves small marks but mostly depneds on how tight the bullet is in the case.0 -

I usually just use a rifle and/or a pistol to separate my bullets from their cases. 0 -
I wondered because my daughter wants to SAVE a shell....since she shot the Barrett when we had it here at the house. I don't worry so much about her doing anything stupid with the shell....but the "tards" that show up and visit her just might be dingy enough to kill a bug or something equally bright with the thing. 0 -

Awesome!!! I had heard about some idiot school teacher that kept a large shell of some kind on his desk.....and he slammed it down.....where you can guess what happened next.
My thoughts are to keep the shells away from her.....but she LOVES to show any of her "buddies" that come by. We have had many many MANY talks with the kids that stop by....but you know I wouldn't have been suprised if a couple of them started licking the wall with how idiotic they were. This next generation coming up is a bit "touched" at times.......

Usually not but for some bullets that are sealed in the neck it does sometimes ... also, like Nwcid said it depneds on how tight the bullet is in the case.0 -

victorlvlb. I use the end of a 4x4 and it is about 1' long. The instructions say to use the end not the side and I think it is becasue it absorbs the inertia better. I have pulled everything from 9mm thru 223 up to 300 win mag. It usually takes 3 sharp blows square on the wood and I make sure the collet is tight after every blow. The nicest thing about an inertia puller is that it leaves NO marks on your bullets. 0
