Sounds like she did the right thing! Life is too short to put up with that type of garbage in the workplace!

A new year can mark a new beginning.
Sorry for the stress. My wife is tapering off of medication as a result of work related stress. Now she does not work full time. Getting much better. Good luck!

H.R. directors don't like to hear "hostile work environment." It scares the bejabbers out of them.

I am not an attorney. Here is what I think is true:

A hostile work environment is created when a person fears going to work because of the offensive, intimidating, or oppressive atmosphere generated by the harasser based on race, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, sexual orientation, political affiliation, citizenship status, marital status, or personal appearance.

It can be direct or indirect. Indirect being the posting of nude photographs where somebody can see them, and be offended. Direct being if somebody makes lewd comments or come ons.

Alot of that sort of thing goes on at the workplace. Good for Dawn for walking away. Nobody should have to put up with crap like that, work now days has a enough stress as is.

This is straight from the EEOC website, on the Harassment page.

"Offensive conduct may include, but is not limited to, offensive jokes, slurs, epithets or name calling, physical assaults or threats, intimidation, ridicule or mockery, insults or put-downs, offensive objects or pictures, and interference with work performance."

JCI employees and Dawn's supervisor scored 8 out of a possible 14 on this list.

That girl just can't hold a job! Good for Her![^] I think she is well suited to being a kept woman Nunn, you just need another full time job to support her in the style she deserves.[}:)]

Sorry to hear it, dreading work can make life pretty miserable.

Well I think you have a really good case starting! Good Luck. I know I sure am happier now that my wife has quit. She is happier as well.

Maybe this was a part of Dawnie's master plan to make you agreeable to her new life of leisure.

    -Just a theory.

The most important part of work for many people is organizational culture. I share Dawnie's feelings on this.

nunn: as you know know documentation(cya) is everything. Get her to writing the "who what when where date & time" while it is still fresh in her mind.

This cause of action is very difficult and expensive to handle, and requires, in my opinion, a firm that does employment law as their main area of practice. They are rare, and VERY picky about the cases they take.

I would call ya David, but don't have your number. Mateomasfeo@yahoo.com

Sitting at home, watching Oprah, eating bon-bons, depending on the poor, overworked shoe salesman cop for her sustenance.

She walked off her job yesterday. Lots of gossipping, snickering, whispering, back-stabbing, and rumor-mongering going on, and the supervisor wouldn't put a stop to it because she was involved in it. Dawnie tried to talk with the supervisor, and she wouldn't listen, so Dawnie handed over her entry badge and left.

I don't let stress at work bother me, but Dawnie does. She was physically ill, unable to sleep and throwing up, all over a bunch of adults acting like middle-school children. She had to go to the doctor and go on medication for a possible ulcer and anxiety.

Sounds like a "hostile work environment" to me, and since the supervisor contributed to the hostility, and did nothing to remedy it, the company, by extension, must bear responsibility.

I sent an email to the corporate offices detailing some of the problems, and asking for a solution. The big bosses have all been off this week, so it may be a few days before any of them call her, but I'm figuring they will.

Since Dawnie has been off, she has been a different person, and I like this one better.

David, take your last sentence and run. If you or she thinks the environment was hostile before, wait till you sit through a hearing and Dawnie has to listen to what will be dredged up about her. It will be HORRIBLE, I abso'freakin' lutely guarantee it. I've seen it, David, it ain't pretty.

Take your woman and be satisfied she's happy.

    Clouder..

So the best you can do is write a nasty letter to corporate. Let them come down and see what is going on.

I don't care if she ever goes back there. I just hate to see a bunch of peer employees and one first-line supervisor who act like children run her off and get by with it.

I'm with White Clouder on this one. You have a new happy wife. Move on with your life.....now if one of those dirt balls with whom she had difficulties were to be speeding in your jurisdiction, YOU could have some fun with them and innocently look at them and say, "Of course we bear the company no ill will you just happened to be speeding!" With a protracted court case you could never pull one of them over and mess with their karma. Beach

I hope my wife doesn't see this post. Who will pay the bills if she quits? I cant' even get BR to bring me a cold beer. I'm lucky my little woman doesn't have time to look at the forums what with the kids and working and fixing my supper. I would hate for to be in a stressful work environment but I have needs you know. Maybe I could get her a nerve pill prescription from the doctor if she feels stressed. What do you think BR? Any suggestions? [}:)]

Question: Was she principly working w/women?
If so, then if I've seen once, I've seen it a hundred times. You get a group of women together and that's par for the course. They'll form rivalries and cliches and backstab one another endlessly. And often they'll gang up on one until they run her out. As we should be well aware, women by nature are far more ruthless than most men. And only the strong survive in these environments. Probably not alot that HR or anybody else can do about it.
