If you walked outside and looked into the heavens right now, a lot of the twinkling little lights from stars you see died out billions of light years ago. The light you're seeing is still visible. It's hard to grasp just how big the universe is.. 0 -

It is infinite in that it is all that there is (at least in this reality). You could never reach the end. It isn't a bubble per se but is inflating and if you reached the 'edge' you would eventually just curve around to where you started. Such would be true no matter the scope of the universe, whether expanding or contracting.
Or so the theories go.
There was nothing 'before' the big bang as time as such didn't exist, but it does beg the question- how and why was there a big bang? Oh, there are theories- the big crunch and the end of a previous universe, the intersection of 2 planes of reality, etc., which is all fine and may be the case- but then where did THAT come from, etc?
Because I cannot conceive of the idea of infinity I accept the idea that somewhere something totally outside the system (call it God if you will) set it in motion. Whether he has anything to do with it since is debatable.0 -
