Probably the Weirdest Question Ever..........

I am going to be picking up in the next week or so, an entire human skeleton, plus another skull.

Before you guys start calling the FBI,......these came from my step dad that was a physician, and he actually got them from his father that was on staff at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore.
They have been stored at my mom's place since my step dad passed away.

They were purchased in the late thirties from what I have been able to find out.

What do you do with stuff like this?
I have heard they are quite expensive, but I don't know if "human bones" are legal to sell from an individual.

I get the thrill of bringing them here, and assembling them to see what shape they are in!
Thought maybe Dr. D, or any other med type folks might have an idea as to what I should do with these things.

I am also picking up a German made Leitz-Wetzlar microscope ,......info on that would be appreciated too.

Why do I always get the fun stuff to take care of?[;)]

    I remember one time at the hospital where I worked...

    I was walking down the hall, right beside a patient - and a door opened, and a doc rolled out one of those complete scheletons that are hanging on a steel-thing - sort of display-wise.


    I couldn't help but say... that I felt that guy should stop his diet.. and soon...

    The patient started laughing and had just been operated, so his would hurt a little bit...

    Offcourse I apologized. =o)

    He said it made his day.. glad to be of help.

    You know when I signed up for the gunbroker auction side there was a restriction on selling human bones. I wondered if that would ever even be a concern, and yet, here we are.... [8D]

    There at school we have a headless skeleton in the sixth grade science room. The skull disappeared a few years back, but the rest of him (her?) is in good shape and almost complete.

    I've told my wife that when I go I want to be shipped out to the place in Oklahoma, dropped into the vat of bugs, and then assembled again and sent back to my school. I figure I'll have worked there for 32 years, another 30 or so of hanging around shouldn't be too bad!

    I imagine it will cost about $15,000, but totally worth it. "Hey, remember Mr. So and so, well there he is right there!"

    now I would love to have a microscope, seems like I'm always looking at very small things and the microscope that I have is not very good. I get a lot of outside interference .Don't think I'm asking you for the one you got I know its probably 2-3thou. and Im kinda a 1.99 guy.
    The bones would make a unique puzzle to put together.
    Seems like you got a pretty neat present.

    LOL ... here's one for you ... I had an acquaintance when I was at John's Hopkins, who used to have a 'Body Parts Christmas Party' - a bunch of us in Philly would invite Med. & Pre-dental students who would bring ... small contributions to the party and hide out bits and parts here and there. Once there were fingers in the cigar box and another time there was a human arm - finger tips to upper arm ball, upstairs bathroom, fingers taped to a toilet seat (arm coming up from bottom of toilet) ... a drunk girl sat down on it and we were all delighted in the screams echoing from the third story bathroom!

    Great party![:D]

    Anyway, there was a guy who was up at McGill U., who was some kind of Pre-Med, something or other, who smuggled a head back in a ladies's hatbox for that particular party - being the 60's, one could do that sort of thing. After a few drinks he left the hatbox in the seat next to him when he deplaned in Philly. The plane went on to DC.

    He was a no-show.

    The FBI was on his doorstep waiting for him before he arrived at his parent's home, in Radnor. He was almost bounced ... got off with an apology to the Feds, another to the Canadian Gov't, his parents, McGill and three semesters of probationary status, up in Montreal.

    ... those days were a lot more fun!

    The skelton is worth BIG BUCKS, probably in the area of eight to ten thousand dollars. India stopped the export of unclaimed cadavers several years ago. It is almost impossible to get real skeltons now.

    You can contact a used medical equipment seller in a larger city to find a market for both items. Be careful, there is a lot of shady dealers out there; they will rip you off big time.

    In some districts you could register the skeleton to vote. Perhaps the second skull too.

    I do like the idea of donating to a community college. The microscope, while outdated, sounds of high quality and may still be functional. Regards.

    I believe I would set him in the corner in a comfy chair with a bottle of scotch in one hand , and a big cigar in the other. And on his head I would place a Derby.

    Put a tag on one of the bones "Osama Bin Laden", then take them in and collect the $25 million reward.

    I would keep it as a kooky, macrabe family heirloom. Every family has skeletons in the closet, but yours would have an ACTUAL skeleton. I would try to document the history as much as possible so if there ever were a question future generations wouldn't end up in trouble. Or I would sell it and use the proceeds to buy an heirloom quality firearm. Maybe even send it out to have a skeleton engraved on it. Then I'd write down the story of the skeleton and how it was sold to buy the gun and put that in the original box with the gun and put it in the safe. Another option is to sell it and buy an heirloom piece of art that is somehow skeleton related.

    You could also make one of these. : )
