No. We tried that once and it was evident that it just became an illegal trade.
The politicians should take that as an example of what would happen if they banned private ownership of firearms. It wouldnt work...the criminals would just feel safer...a black market would arise...and otherwise law abiding citizens would become defacto criminals because they would want to protect themselves.0 -

I dont support banning alcohol but I do support much stiffer penalties for drunk driving, domestic disputes while under the influence and providing alcohol to a minor.
Drunk drivers kill 24,000 people a year in America and injure hundreds of thousands.
80% of domestic assualts occur while one of the parties is drunk.0 -

BTW, it's more like 12-13,000 deaths due to DUI per year in the US0 -
I just checked and in the year 2006 there were 17,941 deaths from drunk drivers. An estimated 241,000 people were injured from drunk drivers.
I support impounding and never returning the car of repeat drunk drivers.
BTW - in the last 10 years America has averaged about 100 kidnappings and murder of people under 18 by strangers.

Black markets are great, tax free revenue.
The war on drugs has not been won, and the govt seems to think its worth fighting, instead of taxing some substances and actually controlling them.
Isn't it ironic, how they call illegal drugs, 'controlled substances', when in fact the only controlled substances are ones you need a prescription to get?
Legalize most things, then with the money saved from fighting it, and the revenue from taxing the hell out of it, you could open up more rehab clinics for people that WANT to quit.
I still do not understand how the government can think that alcohol is safer than herb ... every time I watch the show 'cops' some drunk is getting a disorderly conduct or tazed. The pot heads are mellow with an 'ok' attitude.

Ive pushed the same issue on here many times. And when it comes up I always say the same as you. I dont beleive they will ever legalize herb, but they need to come up with a better system. I say they should devise a fine system. You get caught with an eighth, you get a 50-60 dollar fine. Imagine how many people we would keep out of prison, and how much income the state and federal government stands to make. It costs what, anywhere from 28-40 grand to house a person in prison for a year. Ridiculous.0
