I give up! I'm just too picky and I think the perfect guy isn't out there. It's important that a guy keep up with me and it was important to my bf.
We went biking with some of my team mates. I never expected him to keep up and I really didn't want him to go. He went and yes we lost him, we've been racing for years, like we couldn't see that coming.
My team mates and I talked about swimming the Ohio. My bf knew he'd never make that swim, almost 2-3 miles.
He told me last night that he can't keep up with me and do the things I do. So we talked about just being friends. It really hurts because I really like him and I thought this could go somewhere.
    I'm just lost today.

If you really like him, SLOW DOWN! [:D]

If only I were a little younger and single...[:p][;)][:)]

You'll find somebody sooner or later Traci...if you are looking for an adrenaline junky, start checking out some white water kayakers or sky divers. You have to be an adrenaline nut to really be into paddling...you keep pushing the envelope...

"Just be friends" Forget that crap. Either slow down or forget the guy. Romance is not a competition you know.

Seems a bit much to dump someone that you care for, and obviously thought enough of that it might have gone somewhere.

What's the big deal if he can't be a triathalon contestant,.......you do your thing, and he does his, then spend the other time together.

I personally like to have a certain amount of different interests from a "gf, fiancee', wife".
Everyone needs time with friends, and to themselves,......at least most folks that I know do.

    Just a friendly thought![;)]

You aren't perfect, so stop looking for a perfect guy. I get sick of women whining about "Mr. Perfect". No one is perfect.

Be careful how much you "slow down" to let him catch up. If the relationship isn't self sustaining and natural, it won't work long term. A little compromise if healthy to help you reach outside yourself but if he can't keep up in too many areas and you end up having to sacrifice TOO much, it won't make you happy and in the end you won't like him after all.

Just don't give up, Mr. Wonderful is out there. My wife and I have been married for 37 years and really like to be together and have NEVER had a real fight, (didn't say we didn't disagree on something over time) but our kids will testify that we have NEVER had a "fight". Not because either of us is perfect, we're just very happy TOGETHER, which is good for us and neither of us could be married to anyone else this successfully, but thankfully, we found each other a long time ago and it has been (and still remains) VERY GOOD.........

You're right that the perfect guy isn't out there. The best we can hope for is to find a significant other that shares most of our values and some of our interests.

Why do the two of you find it critical that he "keep up with you" all the time? There's absolutely nothing wrong with a couple that have some differing interests and spend some time pursuing them without the other.

Are you giving up too easy? Is it worth making some adjustments?

Sorry you feel lost and I hope you come to a conclusion that's right for you.

CGR, Who cares if he can't keep up with you, that does not make a relationship, it makes a compatition. Just because somebody likes the things you like also does not make a relationship, it makes a friendship. My wife and I have been married for almost 15 years and as far as hobbies go we have nothing in common. She hasn't been shooting with me since before we were married, she also prefered someplace to be other than the race track. I personally do not care for scrapbooking and all of that arts and crafts stuff. We do not partake in eachother hobbies, but we do support each others hobbies. Love is not being by each others side at all hours of the day, love is being able to say "Have fun, Be Carefull, I'll see you when you get home".

same here, we're totally opposite, going on 17 years we find a happy medium, and tolerate each other differences, i do wish she would do more things like running, hiking it would benefit both of us

There is a very fine line between a "hobby" and "mental illness".

I have been searching for that fine line so I can cross over over into hobbyhood and cure my mental illnesses[:I]

You're pretty hardcore, and finding somebody equally as hardcore as yourself that is still goodlooking might not be easy. It can be done though. Good luck.

Perhaps you should look into James Carville/Mary Matalin.
    Diametrically opposed, yet happily married.

I'm not saying you should "settle". Lord knows I did, and I'm miserable. All I'm saying is, it is possible, which now that I think about it, I used the Carville/Matalin comparison on myself. Stupid stupid stupid. Hope this helps.[:D][}:)]

    Do not settle!
In a long term relationship the tingly feeling will subdue it's self and if you do not like the person beyond that, well, it sucks.
You do what you do and keep doing it, there is more than one person out there for you, just wait it out.

If keeping up on a motorcycle run is important to you, why don't you just date one of your teammates?

What's with the competition? Do you want a mate for life or sparing partner? Perect never has existed. Compatable, kind and loyal are the best trademarks.

I feel sorry for you. I know exactly what that feels like, thinking that a relationship is going somewhere fun, and exciting, and then all of a sudden it comes to a screeching halt. If you every feel like talking, you know how to get ahold of me.

I've been married enough times to have reached some conclusions which I will share with you free of charge. You won't like my answers.

If you find somebody who understands your hobbies, you're lucky.

If you find somebody who shares your hobbies, you're luckier than 99% of the world.

You're not looking for a relationship, you're looking for competition. That's not a good basis for a relationship, in my experience. You're also passing on some great guys just because you think they're not good enough for you.

I think some deep introspection is in order.

    Hey. You asked.

exactly... my hubby does not step foot in the weight room ( I live in there)healthy diet... he points at my plate... not his... keep up with me on a bike? Yeah ok... I dont do everything he likes either... we try to understand each other (does not always happen) but we always love each other. He is my bestfriend and the best husband I could have ever asked for. Quit looking for perfect... when you find a good one grab him...
