Debt?

Just wondering if anyone here is lucky enough to be debt free? Hopefully I will be debt free in 3yrs.

    Was smart enough to start my own landscaping business at age 17 so yes I'm debt free but as for "smart enough"...well I lost that somewhere along the way.

    I know that feeling Davald.I don't have any problem buying guns,just can't seem to sell any.
    Hopefully everyone here at GB can get debt free young enough to enjoy life.Thats my goal anyway.

    I've been debt free lots of times! The next time will be the last. All but the house in three months, and the house paid off in 4 years.

    All I have is my mortgage as of the first of Feb. Then I'll start hammering on that one also. Won't be to horribly long.

    Yep, paid off my house 4 1/2 years ago when i was 44 years old. I have 3 cars and one pickup truck all paid for. The only debt i have, is my monthly credit card, which i pay when i get the bill.

    It's not as hard as most people think, the key is always to pay something extra on each mortgage payment, even if it's only $20, $50,$100. That's $20,$50,$100 that you won't have to pay interest on for the next umtine years!

    I paid off my first house in 9 1/2 years at the age of 35, and my second house in 7 1/2 years! I'm living in my dream house, and i don't plan on ever moving again.

    It's a great feeling!

    being debt is not always a bad thing.....have to have that to gain assets....hope to be in the 8 figures worth of assets by time i decide to slow up

    That's awsome. Personally though I'd like to own everything I have outright so if I ever lose my job nothing will be taken away if I can't make a payment. I'd rather put MY money in the bank or something that makes me money then pay for something upfront. That way none of MY money goes into someone ELSES pocket for nothing.

    Don't count on that! You still got property taxes and homeowners insurance. (they can be as much as 8-10K/yr here) plus upkeep costs on ya home. That's assuming that you're healthy.
    I've been debt free for 9 years now and still have to work!
    Been seriously considering living under a bridge and claiming I'm a "undocumented immigrant"! [:(!]

    The way I heard it, that was the reason for not buying life insurance.

    The first job I got after getting out of the army in 1961 was with a finance company. That very quickly taught me to avoid debt like the plague. I did have to buy the first two homes I owned on credit but I have not had a mortgage in over twenty years.
    I use my credit cards for the rebates but pay in full every month. I also NEVER get a refund on my income taxes. I see no purpose in giving the government an interest free loan.
