    Walked into the store, picked out the rifle, paid cash, took it home.
    Pre "68" obviously.

    this was back in the day when a parent could beat that A_s if you messed up, now days the kid gets a time out[:(]

    Can't remeber for sure. I think I was 10 when I got my Remington .243 for deer.

    I had no guns as a child. My first weapon was an XM16E1 that my Uncle let me use sometimes. I got MY first rifle at 20, a old Win 30/30 that I foolishly sold when I PCSd to Germany the first time. Late bloomer I geuss.

    On the other hand my sons and step-daughter have been shooting since they were 6 or so. Even if they are not that interested in it, I want them to know HOW to safely operate my rifles.

    48 years later still have and use it.

    My favorite 22 kill lotsa red squerels

    I know Im a better shot than a speller

    13....Savage stevens 12 gauge single shot. 32 inch barrel with full choke. Its beat up pretty good, but I still have it. Can't imagine how many squirrels met their end from that cannon.....

    wel at about 8 or so it was use of anything in the rack with supervision, without supervision by about 10 or 11
    at 14 bought my own .22 single shot savage.
    still a tack driver 34 yrs later

    would say 20, no guns allowed at home. Then Marines no personell guns were allowed unless you lived in town.

    Moved into town, bought a cheapy .410 single about a week later traded it for a 12 ga. bolt action which I still have. About the same time bought a marline 39A which I still have.

    3rd mossberg .22 single shot bolt action rifle

    still have all 3 among others

    Awesome... My first gun was also an Ithaca Model 49 Saddle Gun... 1966 vintage (I was 6 yrs, 4 months old when I got mine for Christmas 1966)[^]

    edit... forgot to add, I still have mine too[^][^]

    10yrs old. Bolt action .22LR single shot. Now belongs to my step son. Was his first gun too. I hope it will be his kids first gun also.

    I was 10 years old and got a Winchester Model 250 .22 rifle for Christmas. I still have it, and it will be given to my first grandson in 6 years when he's 10.

    I guess I'm a late-comer. I was 27 and it is a S&W model 686 .357.

    I was 18. I wanted the gun earlier, but my parents made me wait until I was 18. Didn't think that I would ever reach that milestone. Now, the years just fly by. Oh, yeah - it was a Mossberg .22 target rifle. Bolt action, tubular feed with a swing-away peep rear sight, and a hooded front sight with a choice of 3 posts for a front sight. Still have the gun, and it is still a tack driver. Doubt if it has had 1.000 rounds through it in 51 years.
