kel tec fiasco
i have been going through some tough times financially, so i was forced to sell all my handguns, even my daily carry gun, my glock 23, well, i purchased a kel tec PF9 yesterday, after function chekcing the gun in the store, i took it home, pressed the mag release ONCE, and it broke! simply broke in half, the second time ever being pushed, i am going to try to get a full refund from the dealer today, if they dont give me the refund i am sending the gun back to kel tec and selling it as soon as i get it back, i just cant trust a firearm that broke like that,
anybody else have a bad experience with Kel tec? i cant afford much gun right now, any suggestions for a small, highly concealable, NON KelTec gun?

Firestorm or Bersa both are great guns about the same price as you Kel tec. 0 -
A problem Keltec....now that's a unique experience. Who would have thought.[:(] IMHO, a used quality gun is better than a new KT, a police trade something maybe. Good luck with the refund. 0 -
I've got a Bersa Thunder .380 that I've been happy with. I just got a Don Hume IWB holster for it today in the mail. I paid $198 a couple of years ago. It's nothing fancy but it seems to get the job done. I looked at the Kel Tec's when I bought the the Bersa and IMO the Bersa is a lot better gun for the same money. 0 -
just got back from the range with my PF9 got it about a month ago it has not failed me yet,
shot corbon +P, my reloads light and a little hot, guess i have put 200+ rounds out of it so far and have not cleaned it yet,
maybe yours was damaged in shipping or it might have been a bring back, someone else damaged it . a lot of LEO here carry the kel tec for back up 32 and the 380, it does have a little more bite when fired. my 10 cents0 -

a friend had a older bersa . first time out it broke in half [:(]
going to send it back to see if they will stand behind it. i guess any gun can fail for some reason or another [;)]0 -
I am glad that this post came about. I as about ready to purchase a PF-9. Now I think I am going to get a snub .357 instead. I already have a Bersa Thunder and could not be happier with it, but I am concerned about the .380 as a defense round. 0 -
bought a Keltec P3AT a few weeks ago...love it so far. Has fed 3 different types of ammo and not one jam or FTF of any sort. Did alot of research before I bought it and found the majority of owners have no problems. Maybe just a lemon. 0 -
Get a PA63. Inexpensive but well made surplus gun in 9x18. 9x18 is more powerfull than a 380.
One for $125 no reserve

I've had P3AT for almost a year now and I've put several hundred rounds through it without a problem. I wouldn't count out Kel-Tec just because one of their guns had a faulty part. 0 -
Anyone know the quality of the Kal Tec clones that Skyy offers?
I know that they had major quality issues when the first began production, but haven't heard much since.0 -
Friend of mine bought a 1400 dollar Nightforce scope.
Got vertigo, trying to adjust the windage knob. Seems that the factory put two elevation knobs on the scope.....
Point is..man-made is man-made. Things happen...and the several hundred rounds through mine leads me to believe that carrying it is acceptable. The only complaint I have is pinching my finger on the lower end of the trigger.0 -

The more I research them The more complaints against the PF-9 I am seeing. Not saying I will not get one in the future if they fix the issues, but as for now it is out. I want 100% reliability when I am dealing with a carry gun and my life.0 -
I had a P11 for a little over a year and loved it, but I decided for a slight bit more size, and a good deal more money the Glock 27 was the way to go. (I started having those dreams of my CCW not working when I really needed it)
I also have a P3AT 380, that I carry as a backup, and as a CCW on hot summer days.
I've put a few hundred rounds through both the P11 and P3AT wihout a hiccup in either. I hear they have some issues with HPs, but I always use FMJ.0 -
I have had both the Kel-tec P3AT and the Kel-tec 32 for several years. Both have been reliable for me. The 380 is my daily carry gun and I use the Winchester Silvertips which seem to work well.
I think you got a bad apple in the barrel, so to speak. Could be that the mix of polomer was not mixed correctly and that caused the malfunction. Very unusual for a line of firearms designed specificaly for police officers back up weapons.0 -

i sent the gun back to kel tec yesterday, i think i will give it a second chance 0 -
my friend Bob had to send his new Kel-Tec back to the factory also. He still swears by it though... And judging by his immense collection of Single Action Colts... he knows his guns. 0 -

I had that same dream about my CCW firrearm not working when I really, really need it. But instead of buying another, different and maybe more expensive and larger firearm, and one using a different mag, I just bought another Kel-tec P11. Carrying two of them is not much more trouble than carrying one with an extra mag.
Works for me.0 -
No problems with my P40 or P-3AT.

outside of this board i don't know anyone that has a kel-tec thats not trash, i went to a i.d.p.a. bug gun match {Back Up Gun} once about 8 guys showed up with a .380, not 1 made it through the match, they may work fine at 1 round every 1-2 seconds, but simulate a defense situation and your screwed 0 -
I grudglingly purchased a Kel-tec 9mm P11 a few weeks ago. I did it against my better judgement but a w-h-o-l-e lot of knowledgeable people spoke highly of the Kel-tec. But I still expected to be disappointed and when I first took it to the range, I was disappointed. I took several boxes of the Sellier & Belliott thinking it should work fine since S&B worked fine in several other 9mm handguns and one carbine that I own. But as soon as I started shooting the S&B I got jam/misfeed/stoppage. I was almost ready to throw the Kel-tec in the trash but luckily I had a box of Blazer aluminum case 9mm and so I tried those. They worked perfectly, whether slow fire or rapid fire. So then I move up to the expensive ammo, Federal Hydroshok, and it also worked fine.
I have faith in Kel-tec to the point I bought another. I believe it is just a case of the Kel-tec, being one of the smallest Browning type actions, and therefore is very picky about what kind of ammo will make it work reliabliy. If you go to the Kel-tec owners website, you will read story after story where owners have shot hundreds and hundreds of rounds through their Kel-tecs and have had no problems. Or, if they did have problems, the gun was sent back to Kel-tec and repaired at no charge and then went on to function perfectly.0 -
Between this post and some of the other posts on other sites I decided against the Kel-Tec, I think I am going with a Kahr CW9. 0 -
I have had a PF-9 for almost a year now and been very happy with it. Had a few FTF in the first 100 rounds but it has eaten everything I have feed it once it was broken in.
If you slam the mag in a PF-9 it can damage the mag release. There is a gunsmith on KTOG.org that makes a replacement metal mag release.
Bash the Kel-Tecs all you want but "for the price" I don't think you can beat it. The Kahr PM-9 or the Walther PPS are better pistols but each one costs more than twice as much as the PF-9. IMHO there is a place for both.0 -

Well said. I feel better about my P-11. Wonder if that gunsmith makes a metal mag release for my two P-11's?0 -

What is your life worth? This reminds me of the BELL Helmet ads from the early 70s......"if you have a 10 dollar head, wear a 10 dollar helmet."0 -

ANY GUN CAN FAIL.
just because a gun cost big bucks does not make it fail proof.0 -

i have a glock with 30,000 rounds through it NOT 1 failure, my wilson combat has close to 30,000 rounds with the only malfunction was within the first 1,000, and i guarantee almost every round was fired in 16/100 of a second rapid fire {and hitting the target}
none of my revolvers have ever failed, failure in a defense firearm is unacceptable0 -

BINGO! My $350 Smith Model 60-10 .357 has yet to have any kind of failure. And I like to think that my life is worth at least $350.0
