Cowboy boot help...
Since it looks like I'm entering a Country & Western phase of my life,
I guess I need some cowboy boots, like the other fake cowboys at the Silver Spur have - Last Saturday I stuck little signs on my Nike's proclaiming that they were "cowboy boots". It didn't seem to impress the crowd.
Here's is my challenge: My feet are shaped like duck feet and I want pointy toed boots, that don't hurt.
Without breaking the bank, does anyone have any suggestions for solving this absolutely trivial problem ??

I have had a pair of Justin back cut boas since 1987. They have the big scales. You do have to take care of them though. I love them and women do look at your feet. Boa, rattlesnake, or ostrich and you will be set. Go to an actual Cowboy boot store and try them on. They do make wide boots. 0 -
Ariat is probly the most comfortable.

Here's the word from an ex-cowhand. Very few real cowboys wear Levi's, because of their corporate stance on gun control. They give money to Sarah Brady, and it dang sure isn't going to be my money. I have worn Wranglers and Lees all my life, and don't own a pair of pants that isn't jeans. The newest ones are for church.
As for boots, I don't know what that picture is but it sure isn't a cowboy boot. Find a nice pair of Olathes, and wear the snot out of them before you take them dancing. Wear them everywhere: to work, to church, to bed. In about six months they'll be broken in. In 2 to 3 years they'll fit you like old slippers. In 20 years, you'll cry like a baby when you have to throw them away.
You think pointy toes are comfortable? I personally prefer semi-round toes, but then I grew up in buckaroo country.
Try on a lot of boots. Once you buy a pair, you'll either give them away real soon or keep them forever. I prefer the latter. Check out a variety of heel styles, toe shapes, and boot height.

I am really starting to sound anal, but there's one more thing.
I don't care what your boots are made out of -- chicken skin, etc. But if it isn't cowhide, it isn't a cowboy boot. Doug, I don't know where you live or how folks dress around there, and if you don't want my opinion that's fine. But working cowboys don't wear ostrich or snakeskin. That's for bankers and drug dealers. Well, maybe in Texas -- God only knows what Texans might do.
Get a leather sole. Cheap boots have plastic, and kill your feet. Especially if you are dancing in them. They will be slick the first few days, so watch out.
A reasonably good pair of Olathes or similar boots might run you 250 bucks. That's pretty cheap. Figure 50 bucks every 2-3 years to resole them, and they will last 30 years.

cowboy boots are VERY individual and personal, much like guns. It's what fits you and suits you best, regardless of the cost. My personal favorite is a pair of Anderson Beans but I can guarantee you that until you go to a big boot store and plan to spend at least a couple hours trying on different style and price boots, you won't know what's best for you. Just don't rush and go to a store that sells lots of boots and talk to someone who knows boots. Like any other salesman, they'll tell you anything to sell you a $500 pair of boots but if they don't fit right, they won't work. A good fitting pair of boots will be comfortable for hours and not cause you pain. Just be patient.0 -

Doug - duckfoot here.... I wear cowboy boots everyday and have for, well, all my life (50 yo). When i worked cattle and in the fields i wore Justin ropers - usually regular old cowhide because you wear them out and $500 is a little steep for boots that last you about 10-14 months. The low heals and "U" toes work for wide feet. When in the saddle i usually wore a pair of Tony Llama tall tops made out of bulls hide with the riding heel - but if you are running more than just down the rope, they aren't what you want.
When i moved into office work (suits, business casual and such - YUK), i still wear boots. They are still Justin ropers, but i prefer full quill ostrich. They are without a doubt the most comfortable i have ever worn. Very soft and durable. I have three pairs in different colors - including one black pair that have been rebuilt by a custom boot makers every 14 months or so since 1996.
As for pointy toes with duck type feet - good luck finding those. "U" toes on the ropers are the tightest i can stand....0 -

Well if you do not plan on riding don't get riding heels. Get a good pair with walking heels.
Soles are another to watch. While I like leather it gets slick quick. A good vibram sole is a must in wet areas.
Lastly I've got one pair a Nacoas(Sp) and one Pair of Tony Lamas.
Nacoas with a new sole has lasted 20 years+ With good treatment.
Tony Lamas a little shorter of time 10 Years+ and again good treatment.
A really good pair will feel like slippers at the end of the day. My Nacoas have shrunk or my foot expanded cause they are not as comfortable.0 -
I would suggest buying Dan oost or Justin boots I have wide feet and I have never had either brand of these boots mak my feet hurt. Plus both are about mid range in price[;)] 0 -
Hey Doug - I girl I used to date told me that most girls find guys the sexiest when wearing jeans and a white dress shirt - not the type with button down collars, that is not dress and is for gov't workers - just a regular all white dress shirt. 0 -
Ariat boots why i must ask do you want pointed toe boots.....they are to gay.....i wear the rounded toe ones in roper style.....short heal....
and fars as pants go wranger 13mwz... levis are for those who dont have much hanging there[;)].....and yes i like to farm but have done some cowboy work also.......not rodeoing but ranch work.....like roping foot rot cows, roping 2000lb plus bulls and jump them into a trailer ect ect0 -
Hey Doug, one more comment from a boot wearer, I own, about 5 different brands and that's because each one fits a different need or style or occasion. I do believe you've gotten some great advice about the riding heel versus walking heel, leather sole versus crepe or other synthetic, all super advice. One last thing, there is also a big difference in the upper height on various styles of boots and my favorite pair I had to have cut down, they were actually extra high working boots, snake proof, etc., which I never needed and didn't like the extra high shanks. Just take your time and find the material, style, color, etc you like and then find the feel you like. Most real boot wearers will also tell you that you need a little heel slip when you have the boots on so don't buy a boot that fits like a rubber glove unless it's a really soft leather that will stretch. Of all my brands, my Ariats stretch the most and now they don't fit me any more, which my son loves since he inherited them.

Take that to heart Doug. Go to a well respected store and tell the folks you want to wear a pair for thirty minutes, stay on the carpet of course. Since you mentioned duck feet, I doubt cockroach-in-a-corner-killers are gonn' suit your feet. If'n you've got hammer toes like I do you'll be even more miserable.
Luchese or Ariat are the most comfortable, and the price ain't that bad either. I've got a pair of Luchese wingtips that ran me about 280 bucks two years ago.
I'm with drjew on the Levi's. Threw out six pair of them when I found out about their gun control contributions, some didn't even have holes in them yet.0 -

Seriously Doug...all kidding aside. Just go to a couple of stores (Tractor Supply, Farm and Ranch, Luskeys, Cavenders) and try on different types of boots.
Walk around the store in them...squat down in them...and so on. They have to fit you and be comfortable.
Levis are your call...but like others here...I never wore another pair once I found out about their stance (and I loved my 501s). Try the wranglers and see how they fit you.
Since you are not working cattle, horses or farming, the clothing just has to be what you like...not necessarily what will last in the mud and barbed wire environment.
Now go learn the Cotton Eyed Joe and impress them gals [:p]0 -

The mad-dog lucchese on this page are the ones that I wear. I have the Cognac and the tobacco brown. As I said before, they are great boots to wear. This was my first pair of exotic boots and I can't stand to wear my tennis shoes or work boots anymore. And at this price you are looking at a very good quality USA made boot. Of course if you have a local western store, I would recommend going in and having them help you find your size. You do not want to try to go off the size of your tennis shoe. Boots do require a more specific fit to be comfortable.

Quit wearing Levi's years ago actually forgot why till this post. the were also supporting something else that i did not like do not even remember what it is.
Now Mostly wear Wranglers even like the fit better.0 -

DOn't buy a cheap pair! They WILL hurt your feet and give you a bad feeling towards all boots.
I have two pair of Justin Ropers. They ain't perty, but man they's comforable. I also have two pairs of Justin lace up ropers. One pair I bought at some company store just off Hemphill road in Fort Worth. THe other was a cheap "Diamond J" (Justin's off brand). I bought them at the discount store in Junstin Texas. Awesome store!
The Dan Post are pointy toed and black. I was surprised a higher heeled boot can be so comfortable. Again, leather soled.
Leather soles are key. THey make the boot. If they are rubber, stay away.
I would recommend a Roper. I don't care if they are out of style.0 -
Doug here is some advice from someone who has worn cowboy boots all his life. Find a reputable bootmaker in your area. Hand pick the hide he will use to make your boots. Let him size your feet and CUSTOM make you a pair of boots.
1. They will fit your feet perfectly.
2. They will be extremely well made.0 -
I have worn a pair of Dan Post boots for years, and they still look like new. They feel great too. I have a pair of Justin's & an and old pair of Tony Lama's that I'll never part with because of the fit, but I would not be caught dead wearing a pair of Chinese made Ariats.

If you just want a decent boot which doesn't hurt without selling the farm to pay for it, and you have a foot like a duck (like I do), B. A. Mason is pretty good. They make some pretty wide boots.
