They're done here in MI. Couldn't tell you how many times a customer would ask me to look at the junker they saved 40 bucks on at the local WM. I most always refused. You get what you pay for. [;)]

I personally am glad WM is done selling weapons.

A year ago or so a local WM stopped selling firearms. They still sell ammo, gun cases, clays ect.

I went there to buy a shotgun case. I couldn't find them so I asked an employee where the shotguncases were? He replied "well sir we don't sell guns so why would we sell gun cases?" I replied "then why do you still sell ammo?" The dufus had a dumber look on his face then.

They still sell ammo to this day as well as clays and the last time I went there they were selling shotgun cases again.

and I agree , walmart SUX , I refuse to spend money there , and anybody who will gets what they have coming and what we all get because of the 'walmarts' .....But , I for one , as a 'gunsmith' will and do work on the stuff that these fools buy there ...

I have a friend who used to think that about the bicycles Wally World sold.
Then he discovered how much he could make repairing them.

He figured he was not only turning down a lot of money (never a good business model) but he was also missing a chance to educate folks. By the time some (but, admittedly, not all) folks bought three or four POS's from Wally, they got the point.

For the record, I've got two WalMart Winchesters that I've never experienced a lick of trouble with. My wife bought 'em for me for my birthday.

Going strong here in Idaho. Even the local drug store has a gun section.

Why blame walmart for selling the "gunk" guns? Why not blame the folks that MADE the junk guns? If the gun makers had not made them wally world would not sell them.

How about the dumb shi s who bought the junk guns. Doesn't anyone take responsibility for their actions any more?

I am also a gunsmith, and service what I sell with a smile. I find that just as in any other industry, gun manufacturers occasionally produce a "lemon".

For example I sold a customer two Remington Special Purpose high end shotguns. One runs beautifully, the other is junk, one problem after another in the action, currently awaiting a complete trigger group from Rem.

People can buy whatever they want wherever they want. I don't have a storefront, so I order to customer request. It's the guy that asks for a quote, then buys from WM, then comes to me for a cheap fix. Soooo, now he's back to what I quoted.[xx(]

If/when walmart does stop carrying guns, I figure the one we have
locally, here in the ozarks, will be the very last to bow out. It's
likely one of their best sellers. I'm equally sure that the local
gun shops will gladly welcome their decision.[:)]

is not the gun department and the jewelry department in wally world leased out...

  • medic07
xxx97...those are not leased out. WM own all in their stores with the exception of the some of the shops up front (nails, bank and hair) and the cell phone kiosk.

I still find it strange that people believe the guns WM gets from Remington, Winchester, Marlin, Mossberg and so on are not the same ones that the gun stores get. They are the same ones. A retired friend of mine from the AF works days in a local gun store and part time in the evenings at WM at the gun bar. Even he will tell you they are the same ones. WM just buys in bulk and every company can let a bad gun through. Remingtons QC lately has sucked.

I have a Marlin from WM (20 years old and works great), two 10-22s, my wifes Remington 700 and my Mossberg 835. All have functioned flawlessly.

Every time we lose someone from selling guns it hurts us. I really dont want to have to travel 70 or 100 miles to buy a rifle, pistol or shotgun.

Next time your Remington scews up, just bring it on back to WalMart and see how they'll handle the repair.

SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL FFL GUY! HE'LL SUPPORT YOU!

Walmat has been phasing out guns and ammo for many years now. Some stores in our area got rid of all guns. Most dumped handgun ammo last year.

They'll just send it back to have the factory repair it.

My local FFL guy gladly works on whatever I need worked on, regardless where I bought it.

Of course, he'll also custom-order anything you can put half down on. And his prices are as competitive. And he's a half a block away from my office. But now, I'm just braggin'.

30, not every local FFL is a gunsmith either.

Only ONE of 5 small shops in my town is a gunsmith. The others will send the firearm back to the factory just like WM will.

I support my local dealer as well as other places. My dealer can get me the calibers or models that the large stores dont carry. However, I will not deal with three of the smaller shops because of their prices...way out of bounds on their stuff.

I too have always thought it was strange when people call walmart
guns, junk. If you notice, it is often the small time shop owners on here that dog walmart. I also have a Marlin that I bought back in 1972 from target for 79.00 and I am still using it today.
I have heard that walmart will only renew the license in the top 1000 stores (in gun sales) across the country. The closest store to me is #25 on the list.

Because like a lot of things in Wal Mart the only way the manufacturers could sell the guns to Wal Mart at the price they were willing to pay was to cheapen them up. So it was either cheapen them and sell them to wal mart, or lose out on selling them to wal mart.....

The wal marts around me no longer sell guns in the store, but will order them for you if you want to place a special order. They claim that by doing this it is more efficient and they have less guns in inventory that sell slowly. I can see their point and somewhat agree with them.... you place the order and two days later your gun arrives from a central warehouse. That is pretty efficient.

Just another sad legacy to Walmarts way of dragging American companies down the drain.

Watched Walmart come into a factory in NC and say we will only pay X amount for your product and that is it. If you want to sale to Walmart then you supply your product to us for that amount. Textiles manufacturers could not produce the goods for what Walmart would pay. So Thousands of jobs were lost due to plant closings and moving to out of the US. It is sad that Walmart did the same to companies such as Remington. Forcing them to produce cheaper firearms just so that they could sale to Walmart.

Now that Walmart is doing away with firearm sales. Such companies as Remington are forced to fall back on the very people that made Remington the company it once was and the very ones whom they turned their back on in order to sale to Walmart.

If every small dealer in the US needs to tell Remington that they have no use for the low quality garbage that they now produce and flat out refuse to offer it in their shops.

Exactly what I would tell Remington if I owned a shop.

"Look, You dropped the quality of your products to a point so low in order to sale to Walmart. Sale your garbage to Walmart. For I refuse to sale any of Remington's low quality products in my shop. Come back and see my when you think you have something made with pride and quality worth looking at."

Remington Firearms used to be superb, We own a bunch of older Remington rifles, when I compare them to the junk coming off the line now I really wonder why anyone is buying the crap they sell now. I for one refuse to purchase any new Remingtons, anything I need can be found used, for a lot less, and it is much higher quality. More people need to refuse to buy their new crap and then they will either have to up the quality or go out of business. Seeing that Cerebus now owns them more than likely they would go out of business.

are they REALLY the same guns at WM...do the actual model numbers (i.e. the Remington model numbers EXACTLY match those at your local shop?)

Home Depot is famous for this..they sell Delta faucets, look the same that a plumbing wholesaler stocks...but the model number is completely different...even in the parts breakdown the numbers are different, although the parts look the same (and interchange as far as I know)

But those faucets are built to HD specs.

    Same deal here???

Local dealers will burn your ass now. What do you think they will do when they get all the gun sales? Also this old saw of "I WILL SUPPORT MY DEALER SO HE WILL SUPPORT ME" don't mean crap. 99% of local dealers don't know jack snit about how to repair a gun. They are experts at lying to you about Wal Mart guns being seconds though. The gun you buy from Wal Mart IS the same gun you would buy from your dealer. Come to our company and buy 1 widget. We will charge you $99.95 for it. Buy 100 and we will charge you $89.95 each. Buy 10000 and we will charge you $69.95 each. All of the widgets WILL be the same quality. Piss and moan all you want boys but thats the way it works.

    This ain't about Wal-Mart.

Look at the positive. Doom and gloom negativity.

The new owners at Remington know the business better. They realize the flaws in Remington's piss poor business plan and are correcting Remington's mistakes.

    GOOD MOVE!!!

That is my point, lets all blame Ruger, Winchester, Remington, Marlin and Mossberg, they are the ones selling the junk guns in the first place. If they really do sell second class guns then shame on them. We should all buy stuff made in Japan and get some good quality. [8D]

You may have something there skyking,,,It's a shame, cause I've always said, "If you can beat Walmarts price on a gun, you got a good deal". However, even if it is boxed, be sure and inspect it completely before leaving with it. I never got any information on that Express shotgun, can you fill me in?quote:Originally posted by p3skyking
Yesterday I got a sure indication that the days of Wal-Mart selling guns is coming to an end.
UPS delivered a box of Remington 2008 catalogs to my shop. These were shipped FROM Remington!
I have never received anything before from Remington as they overlooked small shops and catered to Wal-Mart. I really hope that they don't expect me to order any raggedy assed EXPRESS shotguns. You know, the WM specials that rust if you take them out of an air-conditioned room.

Seldom do people note that while American gunmakers publicly decried the 1968 Gun Control Act, secretly they rubbed their hands in fiendish glee. By shutting off imported firearms, they directly profitted. The cheap military surplus weapons used to hunt with now had to become Remington, Winchester, and Ruger.

To all the gunmakers that crapped on small independent shops for the sake of boxcar lot sales, now it's our turn to crap on you.
