anybody here shoot dime size groups
Was at the range the other day and this older man maybe 65-70 years old, was shooting a Ruger MKIII 22lr with scope 35 yards from a sand bag rest, and all 5 targets had dime size groups (10 shot each). i thought this was pretty dang good.[:p] im not a bad shot but it made me feel bad shooting next to him
so anybody else here shoot like this[?]

I could do quarter size groups from a 22-250 at 100yds, does that count? 0 -

With my MKII I can do dime size groups at 25yards on a rest without a scope. My MKII is a rough looking 24 year old, but she still shoots better than me with the right ammo. 0 -

Three and five shot dime sized groups?
All day long at 100 yards with either one of the four Model 70's that I often shoot. .308, 270, 7mm WSM and a .243.
Normally a 2 to 2 1/2" groups with the old Colt .44 Anaconda without a rest at 50 yds. The best I ever did with it was was an average 1.68" groups shooting nine rounds with five shots in each round. 45 rounds put into an average 1.68" circle will be hard for me to top.0 -
All that means is the guy has a good rest. Do it offhand and then you can brag. 0 -
This may be the wrong thread for this post, but it may contain useful info for some people. I had visions of putting a bullet inside of a bullet hole (as in the previous shot which is a bullseye)
Using a NEF .17 with a GUIDE GEAR (Chinese made) 6.5x20x50 @ 100 yds.
The scope out of the box wasn't even on the backdrop. After a few experimental shots I discovered it was shooting waaaaaay to the right. I adjusted, and adjusted, and adjusted,,getting closer to the mark each time. Then when I got about an inch away from the mark, I ran out of windage adjustment. Moral of the story, don't buy a GUIDE GEAR scope.0 -

what i was getting at is he is 65-70 years old and has the barrel resting on 2 homemade sand bags the range leaves out. i think it is pretty darn good [^]0 -
I've got a 78 year old Dad that shoots one hole groups with his BSA Martini MK2 w/ iron sights at 100 yards sitting off a bench; NO BAGS, just an elbow, that would think that youngsters shooting to be pathetic.

I have a true story to tell then I will answer your question. A guy I know was shooting his 1911 45 in a indoor range he was shooting about 30 feet I would guess. He bragged that he could shoot a apple hung from a string at that same place so they hung a apple from a string to a beam and he started to aim then stopped. He said hey just to make it interesting I bet I can shoot the string instead of the apple. Well he got a few bets brought up the 1911 and fired breaking the string. After everyone paid off he was standing near me and he said that was the luckiest shot I ever made. Now to your question I have shot a group you could cover with a baseball at 25 yards free stand but thats it I can shoot but the farther I am from the target the bigger the group. Rifle is another story. 0 -

Not exactly a top of the line scope but it sounds more like a mounting problem. I had the same problen with a scope once, so I removed it and reversed the front ring. It was almost perfectly zeroed then.
I have never shot dime sized groups with a pistol at ANY distance, however my Savage 22-250 will do it all day long at 100 yards(off bags, of course).0 -
A dime sized group at 35yds., from a decent .22 on a sandbag is not all that hard if you know trigger control sight picture and breathing control.
That is how we sight in pistols for bullseye competition.
