If you had you choice what would you have AK or AR and what model

I don't think you can go wrong with either.....but if you have to make a choice, I guess it depends on what you're going to use it for 0 -
get an ak-47, beacause their dependable,and has a heavy hitting round. and there cheap any where from $350 and up and the cheapest ar-15 you can find is $750 .. 0 -

For a good rifle pick the AR. For a jack handle in an emergency pick the AK. 0 -
If you are taking "money is not an issue" I'd without question have one of these.... http://www.hkpro.com/hk416.htm or better yet one of these http://www.hkpro.com/hk417.htm Those are both kind of ARs.
In the real world where money is a real issue, I'd have to go with an AK. Parts are abundent and cheap. They are ridiculously reliable. Plenty of upgrade parts for them, also cheap. They hit harder than the .223. Ammo is cheaper than .223. If you get lucky, or shot it before buing you can get an accurate one.0 -

Those are two entirely different firearms that answer different questions.
The AK round has ballistics very similar to the .30WCF, while the AR works at about twice the range.
The AR fires a round most suited for varmint hunting, while the AK is a short range deer gun.
You pays your money and you takes your choice.

The AK is a brilliantly-designed piece of junk that keeps on working no matter what. I have hated it for 40 years, and will probably buy one.
The AR started out as a misunderstood piece of brilliance that everyone in my day decided was a piece of junk, until folks realized it ould make a pretty good target rifle. Regardless of what the war wizards say, if you have to shoot a man use a round that knocks a man down.
Given your two choices, I'd go with the Springfield M1A SOCOM.0 -
I like the AR15A2 Gov't Carbine
AK is great, but LOP on the stock is too short (for me), triggers usually suck, and are not as accurate as an AR.
Reliability isn't really an issue, unless you're talking SHTF or massive zombie assault0 -

in the last few weeks I started looking at AR's.

MR223 and MR308 will be available to the US 'public' in about 9 months. the MR 308(HK417) will run about $3k, the MR223 (HK416) will be about $25000 -

I'm leaning the direction of the .308 myself, as I already have the other covered with a RRA NMA4 that I like a lot.
I was also considering the Sig 556, but was holding off waiting to find out about the HK.

i have had and sold 3 different ak-47 like them there just expendable to me. i have two ar's one ar-15 had for over 10 years and one ar-10 just got. could not and will never ever part with either of them. 0 -

Reliability - AK, unless you are talking about a gas piston powered AR
Accuracy - AR all the way
"playwithability" - i think there are more toys for ARs but i know there are also alot of toys for AKs so i think this one is a tie0
