What did you want to be when you were a kid?

Funny how life turns out. I was born in 60. Played cowboys & native-americans, baseball, cops & robbers, army, rode bikes. Would go out in the morning and not come home until dinner. We had a great neighborhood in Lakewood OH. Very ethnic and everybody looked out for each others' kids. No scumbags around then.

I wanted to be a private detective more than anything. I dreamed of solving cases, shooting it out with "bad guys" and getting the girl.
I met a private detective and he said he spends most of his time catching cheating/stealing employees for companies, filming cheating spouses, and looking for runaways. Not as glamorous as I thought.

How about you folks?????

    In 1959 our third grade teacher, Mrs. Tessie Smith asked her class of 36 to draw a photo of what we'd like to be with the return of Halley's Comet in 1985.

    I drew a mighty poor picture of a boy watching the comet behind a telescope. I wanted to be an astronomer (still remember the first quote I ever committed to memory other than bible verses; it was "Frontiers of any type, physical or mental, are but a challenge to our breed. Nothing can stop the questing of man, not even men. And if we will it, not only the wonders of space, but the very stars are ours" from THE STARS ARE OURS by Andre Norton, circa 1956. I believed it then, I believe it now).

    And when Halley's Comet came around, mostly in 1986, I was making a living teaching astronomy, doing astronomy and writing about it, and building telescopes. I was, as near as I can figure, one of the first 300 people on earth to see the comet before it became visible in small telscopes in '85.

    I left that job in the '90's, and even though I loved it, and could still do it if I desired, I've never looked back.

    Oh yeah, my 'net name comes from two men I admired. Sahagan was a medieval monk/writer, while Carl Sagan was an acquantance whose work I also admired. So I took Sahagan 10 years ago, and I've never looked back on that either, although I may have dishonored both men whose name I took, many times.

    some people can never be happy !!

    i urge most young people to enjoy there yout , once your an adult it's a life sentance !

    My neighbor was an engineer and the thought of making designing things and knowing how they worked fascinated me from a young age. I would take things apart to figure out how they worked. That didn't work to well for my behind...

    4 years of college later, 2 years not doing what I should have been and 2 figuring out what I didn't do the first time, has me pretty motivated to finish that engineering degree that I started. The fact that I am pissed off with myself that I only have an A.S. when I should have an engineering degree. Most people would be proud of it, I have a bad taste in my mouth about it. So in a year or two I will be going back and I will finish with a 3.5 or higher.

    Now I just do metal.

    My life-plan had been determined by my father on the day I was born: I was going to be an engineer and that was all there was to it. My only imput/options were which engineering field I prefered: Civil, mechanical, electrical, areospace, ect.

    I wanted to teach large corporations how to be environmentally responsible and still be profitable. And yes this is the job I wanted even when I was very young. Turns out they only wanted someone to manage their environmental liability.[V]
