Whats your normal shooting range?
In Tazzer's hog post he mentioned that it was shot at 200 yards and mentions how long of a shot that is.
Now here in nebraska 200 yards is considered relitively close with a lot of deer being shot at the 300 yard mark and if your skilled at shooting, the 400 yard mark.
And if we are hunting prarrie dogs, 700-800 yard shots are not uncommon if hunting in the right places.
So this got me thinking, What do you guys consider Normal when it comes to shooting distances and whats the farthest you've shot[?]

Closer the better, as I primarily shoot open sights. Never could get the hang of the scope thing. I'll shoot out to 200 if I've practiced with that particular weapon, but other than that, get em close!!

I have done alot of practice out to 300 yards but the longest shot I have taken at game was a tad over 100. 0 -
I like to shoot at 700 or 800 yards.
Have yet to hit anything, but that's what I like to shoot.

if i see an animal at 400 yards and i know i can get to within 50 yarda i`ll take the 50 yard shot every time...if i know i cant get closer that 400 yards that shot will do. 0 -
I like to shoot up to 500 yards. My shooting club in Vermont has a range that has 100, 200, 300, 400 & 500 yard targets. My home range in Ohio only has 100 yard range where I do most of my shooting. I would like shoot further but that is the limit on the ranges I use. 400 & 500 is plenty challenging for me though. I would not try to kill game beyond 300 as I always want a one shot kill shot and no chance of wounding. Humane shots are absolutely necessary in my book. I shoot squirrels in the head only often at 80 to 100 yards with my special 22 rimfire. I practice on golf balls at 100 yards to do this. I seldom miss but if I do the squirrel goes on its way unharmed usually. If it touches his head he's had it. Accuracy is what it is all about!!!!!!!!! 0 -
My back yard/field range goes up to 250ish,..I like to shoot betwenn 100-250, I would comfortably shoot big game out to 300-350 with the right gun,..course the RED RYDER will easily shoot down a flock of geese at 1/4 mile so..depends on the gun/shooter/experince..Loko..[btw. The longest range that I have available to me is 300 yards. I have shot at this distance many times. However, when hunting, the longest shot that I have available to me is around 200 yards, and that is only in a couple of spots. Most of my shots are less than 100. 0 -
My range has a 200yrd max. My son and I shoot it with open sights. And the seven ring at that range has a smaller diameter the the front sight blade (or pin).
The farthest shot I have taken game at was 60yrds.0 -

I will generally hunt at 50 to 200 yards with a rifle with iron sights (open or peep) depending, of course, on whatever shot presents itself. I will not take a shot under 50 yards, unless it's a ##@$&@#$ California Ground Squirrel. (I'd borrow some of Saddam's WMDs to take them out [;)] .} The 200 yard limit is because the territory I hunt in doesn't lend itself to longer shots. I can routinely ring the bell at 200 and 300 yards in an unsupported off-hand (standing) position at a local range, but range shooting is very different than shooting in the field.
I like to shoot pistol or revolver at 25 yards. Rapid-fire handgun at 25 feet and 50 feet. Accuracy? Excellent slow fire, very good rapid fire. I do shoot eighty to one-hundred yards slow fire with a Colt 7 1/2" .45LC. But, this is range shooting. I would like to hunt pigs with my .45LC SAA or .357SAA, but have not as yet. I've nailed running ground squirrls at forty yards with my .357 SAA firing .38S&W-Special, but that's not like field hunting pigs in the brush.0 -
Most of the rifle work takes place between 100 and 600 yards with the odd trip out to 1000. (iron sights) The only animals that get plugged are usually within 20 to 30 yards and on the wing. (no sights) 0 -
I actually prefer distances that allow the bullet to hit the target straight on, not drop on top of it![:D] 0 -
I shot a 22lr once and according to the box the ammo came in it may have gone a mile and a half[;)] 0 -
In Illinois there is no rifle season for Deer. The longest shot I ever took on a whitetail was 117 yards with a Remington 870 with rifled slug barrel. Most of the deer I have taken over the years have been between 30-60 yards. This year I shot one at 10 feet. 0 -
It's all good at anything under 1500 yards. 0 -
Here in DE, hunting is only shotgun and handgun...so within 100yds is about normal. There is only one range that I know of that goes more than 50yds and it is 1000yds. 0 -
where i hunt longest shot is 150yrds, most shots are taken from 10yds to 50 yds, good thing, i can't see no further[;)][:D] 0 -

I feel real comfortable out to 300 yds. Beyond that, I would have to have everything perfect to take the shot. I hunt in mountainous terrain and don't like running down wounded game, at my advanced age.[:)] 0 -
Out here lucky if you can get a 100 yard clear shot. only time farther would be really long. Ridge to ridge 400-500 but sincehtere are no ranges over 100 yards kind of hard to practice that. Would have to go to eastern Oregon to do distance shooting. 0 -
Here your very lucky to find a 300yrd shot, I would say my yearly shooting average on varmits is 150 or so yards. I know of a few places where you can safely shoot 300+yrds but there arent alot. I live in the mountains of Southwest Va. 0 -

Most shots where I hunt deer run 100 yards or under, and I'd guess the average is about 60. Closest was 12 yards (muzzle loader), farthest two were about 220 (.30-06 and 6mm Rem.) 0 -

Around here the woods are so thick you are lucky to have 50 yds of unobstructed sight. I sight a gun in at 75 yds and don't bother adjusting for anything but windage on a really breezy day. That way if it is a fifty yd or a rare 100 yd shot the impact point won't alter enough off of dead center to matter. Went out to Cowdoc's in SD once where you can see for miles. That kind of rifle shooting would take some getting used to. 0 -
Man, I gotta move out west!
Most of my regular shooting is done at 100 yards or less. I have to work at it to get shooting at longer distances. The closest range with 250 yards is about 20 miles away.
However...
My kids have hit me while on the run with a freakin paintball gun at about 45 yards in heavy cover, the little peckerheads![B)]0 -

Down at Inland Fish and Game we are limited to 200 yards, but we keep it interesting by shooting 22LR's and handguns at that range. 0
