Decent motorcycle ideas?
Thinking about an old Harley, or one of those Shadows like cubs has..
I want a motorcycle so I can drive to school on just a permit..
Doesnt matter how many CC.. would like around 600 (dad says that would be good enough without being overpowered) as I will wait 'til im 16 so there isn't a law saying under 250cc
Ideas? Ill be looking around for a good 10 months, but still

A 600 is a pretty big bike, I've never ridden a 600 in the way of cruisers.. but my 600 cc crotch rocket hauls azz. 0 -
the 650 savage is a good cruiser bike too. Its called the big single, its got one big piston. You would likeit, it sits low. 0 -

If you live in a college town, get the scooter. I have NO problem parking in Manhattan. Ask KSUmarksman about that problem. Campus, street, doesn't matter to me. Plus, everyone and their dog has a Harley or sport-bike. The scooters are way cheaper to insure. Mine cost under $70 for full coverage for a year. Try that with ANY motorcycle. You might have a little sticker shock when shopping, but if you figure what you get, for what you pay, it's not a bad deal.0 -

I have a 78 XT 500 Yammahammer. I'd bet it will start the second kick when I get home in the spring. It has done so for the last seven years. Simple one lunger thats got great low end, easy to work on if requred, no brain box chips or fuel injection. 50 mpg or if ridden as sane guy. 0 -
Think about a Suzuki SV-650, it is a great standard class bike that is a blast to ride, plus it is a V-twin so it makes all the right sounds:

What ever you get please wear a helmet sweetie. I've been on bikes/atv's all my life and have cracked a helmet of two. I wouldn't ride without one.
With that said. If I was a young girl wanting a bike. I would get an old Yamaha RZ350 or RZ500. Greatest bikes ever made. IMO0 -
When you get more practice riding and become better. Get one of these. Aprilia RS250

My 1st bike at age 16 was a used Yamaha R5 350 that could pull 1st and second gear. My second was an Yamaha RD400 Daytona Special which could pull 1st 2nd and 3rd gear and eat large 4 stroke Honda's for lunch. I still have a battle wound scar on my knee from that bike [xx(] 0 -

You wont be able to find a 600 Harley that I know of. Mine is sitting near 1600 cc's and that is standard these days accept for the sportster. Ive always liked the NightHawk's and the Virago's. Cool bikes. 0 -
I haven't much experience with motorcycles but I seem to remember a 2-stroke Honda that I was given to ride around my uncle's farm when I was 13. I was told to be VERY careful because it was a 300cc and therefore overpowered for me. That bike could cook, too! LOL, I was also a late bloomer and pretty scrawny as a 13-year-old, so I needed help to pick the bike up when I dumped it.

My first "street bike" was a Yamaha v-star 650. It is a fun bike to get around town on or to run the country roads, but it is not great on the highway. I had a Katana 750 for a while also, but I found myself coming up short of common sense on that bike.[:D]
The V-star classic is nice with the floor boards and heel toe shifter. I am going to sell it this spring though... Not enough time to ride anymore.[:(]

More fun than any four stroke. A 400 cc bike that did 125 mph[:D] More than one 4 stroke crotch rocket was breathing 2 stroke smoke when they tried to drag race me.0 -

Are you pretty coordinated? (walk talk...and....chew gum)
If this is your first bike start out with a smaller dirt bike. 250cc to 350cc. Get really good at falling and not getting hurt in the dirt. Learn to ride and practice practice practice.
IMHO first street bike should be 350cc to 450cc at least 2 cylinders and not too heavy. No you do not need a cafe racer. And you do not need a 900cc harley. Stay away from bikes that break traction easily. You do not need to ride a wheel into the lot every day. Point is stay alive. You will feel invincible but every car and tree out there will kill you. Boy I sound like a father but I have had 6 bikes and have traveled from Alaska to Florida in a big circle on a bike. (14,000 miles one summer) I will bet your mom is not happy about this idea. Jacob, If you have some wrench talents pick up a used Harly Sportster. Just stay clear of the 883 motor. 0 -
IF you can find one at a reasonable price you might consider one of
the older Honda 250 Rebels. A few years back i had one of those and
a Sportster at the same time, and caught myself riding the 250 fairly
often...just because it was fun, easy and economical.0 -

Actually she agreed, I know I cant go toolin off, but i need something that has get up and go if i need it, im a big boy to boot0 -
Jacob, I hope you have been riding for a while, otherwise I would not reccomend a street bike at all! Learn in the dirt. 0
