weirdest - emailer wanting me to take one 30 round mag to the grocery store and weigh it so he'll know if its a heavy well made mag or a cheap light one. serious. it was a EG AK mag snd I don't think they make them with lighter gage metal

I've found that the person that asks the most questions does the least bidding! I sold some matching numbers high grade NIB Brownings a while back. I had a number of requests for more pictures, and questions like, am I sure they are as new unfired etc. None of those guys bid at all!!

dealing with the public is selfless tiring grief....they act like buying from you is dealing with a thief....all the tomato squeezers & tire kickers abound....they're crowding out the real buyers for miles around....the credit cards are maxed & the check is never good....you need to make the sale, your bank says you should....so when all is said & done & feedback is posted....you feel like you're fried & barbied or roasted....but what the heck, now your new auction is on the line....so keep on selling baby, you're doing just fine........not exactly Thoreau but it just popped up 0 -
I sold a 1911 on here about 2 years ago, and I had a local guy ask me if I would be able to meet him for a face to face private sale since he was on probation and would be unable to get it through a dealer. Not only did I say no but I forwarded his info to the police in his town.
I also sold a quantity of once fired brass that I fired myself and then sorted through. The guy started emailing me wanting his money back saying that they were not once fired, he claimed they had been fired many times before. Like you could really tell.0 -

A potential buyer wanted me 1) to ship him a Beretta 92 (pistol came w/ 3 - 15 rd. magazines) to New York (City that is). Not only that, but 2) he requested that I ship it directly to him (circumvent FFL transfer), and to top it off, 3) he wanted me to ship it via U.S. postal service, because it was cheaper than UPS or FEDex. I emailed the sheethead back with a response of "hell no" x 3. In all fairness, he did try to bribe me by promising to leave impeccable feedback. Heh Heh Heh, what a turd. 0 -

When I "sold" a cheap .25 auto to some vato in NYC, he sent me a money order but no FFL copy. When I asked him for the FFL, his response?
"What's a FFL?"

The only one that gets on my ever-lovin-nerves is the "what is my total and where do I send payment?" I get asked some of the most rediculous mess....but if you are smart enough to work a computer and old enough to own a gun....why the heck is it so hard to get my address and add the listed shipping charge and send the payment out without e-mailing me?????
I am afraid to go off like I want to when this comes up.....because they may not complete the transaction.0 -
I dont really have reserves anymore, but I still get asked whats your reserve. For some reason I tell them that its not fair to other bidders, and it clearly posted in description.
"whats that 'crack' I see in your pics; I thought this was a new gun?" - I replied back clearly explaining that the so-called 'crack' they saw was indeed the natural joint line on the frame of the revolver that the factory made.
Or on a non-gun auction when I clearly [as black is from white] stated that I do NOT accept pay-puke as auction payment. He wins the auction and tells me to claim my money from pay-puke when I sent pay info and ask about payment.

eeed me off one time was when I was selling a Brand new in box 45-120 quigley sharps worth in excess of $3000.00 [3K's] with all the options I put on it. The guy e-mails me asking to trade for a Glock21 and 'something extra'. I figured that he wanted to trade for total of $800. I basically told him to dream on.
Many more; but GB does not have enough bandwidth to brodcast them all.

It could be that the dumb questions are not dumb just some one who don't know anything about guns or the auction process. It could be some of them are buying a gun for the first time. While we are whining I have a whine. Look at some of the auctions. Nunn? Some of you have a one line description of the product and a whole page of your rules. Some even try to be cute like, "NO I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY ROUNDS HAVE BEEN FIRED IN IT" No wonder we as buyers ask dumb questions, we can't understand a whole damn page of your rules!! locust fork.....when i win an auction i email seller asking for total $$$ and ALL info & send ALL my info ...with their response then concludes a paper trail thru GB that leaves NO misunderstanding ...i have never lost money & have had support follow thru on a bad seller hopefully which led to being banned......this also could help refute a false negative feedback from a jerk 0 -

I don't want to start a flame war here, but I just have to give my opinion, that sounds unreasonable to me. Yeah, I can read your stated shipping costs and hunt through gunbroker's files to get your address and phone number, but I like to be as thorough and complete as possible. That includes confirming with the seller, in person, that: 1. Yes, I am the winning bidder and they are aware of it. 2. How I will be sending payment. 3. The total amount. 4. Where it is going.
Even if I look this info up before hand I still want to confirm it with the bidder. It is a measure twice cut once mentality to reduce the chance of difficulty- and even if a buyer DOESN'T look it up and just asks- hey this guy just bought something off of you and you don't want to be bothered to even email him your address and a dollar figure- all of 15 seconds of work? I'm speechless.
Conversely when someone wins something from me I automatically send them an email stating "Hi you won my auction for XXX. The total bid amount was $XX.XX, shipping is $XX, and insurance, if desired, is $XX. Please send payment to me at: Insert address here." It's called good customer relations.0 -
Like Jonk I send an email asking the seller to confirm my calculation of total, who I am, how to contact me, the information on my transfer FFL if not a C&R item, and how I will pay. I am looking to establish communiction and get a read on the seller. Most have been pretty nice folks, a few have been pretty brusque, a couple have been jerks, but did their part ok otherwise. I am very careful to know what I am buying and what the bottom price is, as well as the best price I can find locally. Often I can beat the local prices by $50 including shipping and transfer fee, that, to me, is a real saving. If I am also a source of entertainment, I am happy to entertain. Some of you folks have provided me a laugh or two, and I have certainly gotten some on this thread. 0 -

I only sell to the continental U.S. and state this in the auctions. I make sure it says that i will not ship outside the U.S. It's a pain in the neck especially for gun parts which you have to declare and if they get lost you can't track them right and figuring the shipping is a pain. I had a guy buy a pistol barrel and send the money order with a shipping address in france. I emailed and told him in no uncertain terms that I would not ship to him and then kept his money as it was his second or third attempt. 0 -

Just this week: even though i have in my auction text (twice) what
shipping charges are, and send an invoice with the total immediately
at auction end--- I recently had a winning bidder contact me the next
day and ask me what shipping charges are so they can get this settled.
In text and invoice it states shipping is $10., so when i replied to
their last inquirey i told them $15....just to see if they really
were to ignorqant to read all the other stuff. Now two days later
still hqaven't heard back from them.lol0 -

Most questions I receive concerning my auctions are from people that never bid. Sometimes I answer them and sometimes I do not. I get a lot of, will you sell it for this $$$ amount or will you trade me for this. I don't jack people off with reserve auctions and take I care of my buyers after the sale. I'm not really whining as I think Gunbroker is an awesome place to reach a lot buyers. My only pet peeve is that you have a lot of sellers that never sell anything because their prices are ridiculous taking up page after page and making it harder for people that are fair to reach the buyers. 0 -

Could not agree more with this. I think they really should get rid of the free relisting for unsold auctions. That way I would not have to look through 20 pages of stuff that is priced way way too high to find the one or two that are priced right.0 -
My biggest complaint is with "sellers" that will not give the buyer (me) the tracking number of the gun being shipped.
One seller never did after asking him 3-4 times for a tracking number and the fact that I, the buyer, paid the shipping charge. Claims he didn't know the tracking number----DUH---he shipped it UPS.0 -

Ask all questions before bidding. I have not participated in any of your auctions (and after this thread I will not be inclined to start) but I ALWAYS ask any questions or concerns I have before I bid. Its a GB policy I believe.
any sellers: fraud usually starts on the seller side of a transaction. With that simple fact I (as a buyer) am going to make the biggest paper trail available, emails, USPS money orders, confirmed prices, a phone number. How do I know your not a crook?0
