Revolver--.22LR
If you were going to buy a revolver chambered in .22LR what would you buy? Just something that you can have fun with at the range and maybe take out squirrel hunting. Doesn't have to include the .22 Mag cylinder and must be affordable(IMO it is rediculous to pay what they want for some of them .22's). Single or double action, either one would be fine.

I have a little Xcam generic 22 revolver that does a good job. It is a single action and does have both cylenders with it.
If you can find one they should not cost more than about $125.

I would not go more than $100 on that one due to condition.
I don't shoot mine much but the kids do and they love it. In the summer I carry it around the yard with shot shells incase of copperheads.

have closet full of them....amazing that the h&r-iver johnson $50 pistols are now bring $200+....rugers, taurus & old hi standards are also +++ in cost....my recommendation for a knockabout shooter would be Heritage & you can get plain or birds head & up to 9" barrel....have rechambered several brands that came out in 22lr only to 22 mag & you can get that built in feature with the extra cylinder...i like 22 mag....bulk mag ammo along with hottest 22lr aguila supmax hivel 30 gr 1750fps at cabelas UPS to your doorstep...have much fun 0 -

The heritage is not bad. I have one and it shoots about on par with the rugers that cost several times more. It is also made in the USA. 0 -

I've got an old High Standard "Durango" that I will put up against any "fancier" revolver you can find. Shoots lights out! 4-inch barrel, only has a 22lr cylinder (don't know if they made a 22mag or not). Kids love it, I carry it when I'm deer hunting, and use it to hunt rabbits when I don't have the dogs out. 0 -
The Taurus medium frame revolvers are OK, not as nice as the Smiths, but if priced right are a good deal.
The Colt Troopers and Diamondbacks are fine but very, very pricey. A decent D'back 22 will set you back $600-$900 in most cases.
The older S&W K famre 22s (ala Model 18 & Model 17) are excellent guns and not too draining on the wallet.
I can't recommend the really low-priced guns. Better to go with quailty. A 4" Model 18 or a 6" Model 17 will run around $400-$450 and will be a joy for several life times.0 -
Jon,.as others have suggested..I like my S&W 617 4"..it will hold its value and remain as accurate as you are with it..it is the scoped gun in the upper left hand corner..you can't go wrong with it..[8D]..Loko

The High Standard Sentinals look good. That is about as far as they go.
They have a ridiculous crane system. This tapered pin setup wears, and the cylinder can be rocked side to side like a bobblehead.
A friend just bought a 941 (.22 magnum) Taurus for 200 bucks. The 94 or 96 Taurus .22 are about as good as anything else..and generally a hundred bucks less money. I have the 94, and taught a dozen or so women to shoot, starting with that revolver.and they all liked it.
I grab it over the 617 OR the old 17 I have, when just heading out to plink. The Single actions are great when I want to go play cowboy.but I sure get tired of punching out empties when I want to shoot a couple hundred rounds plinking.0 -
Ruger "Single Six" or Colt "Peacemaker". They're both fun shooters and great for resale. 0 -
Another vote for the Ruger New Model Single Six. My all time favorite firearm. Nothing else is even close to the fun I've had w/one. It's the only gun I concider a MUST to own. I've owned 3 of them. I've had some occasions where I had to sell my guns for financial reasons. The Single Six is one that I ALWAYS replace. 0 -

I love my S&W 617...6" barrel/ten round cylinder. Came w/wood grips and Hogue rubber grips w/the Smith logo. Sweet w/the Hogues.
Pretty soon, that'll be the only revolver I could still afford to shoot.[:(]0 -

Harrington & Richardson Model 999 or a S&W K frame or a S&W Kit Gun. Harrington & Richardson Model 922 is a good .22 revolver, but a pain to reload if you do a lot of paper punching. 0 -

I really like that S&W 617, but I can not reason with myself on paying that much for a .22. But...I really like that 10 round cylinder...I don't know. I am leaning towards a Taurus or thinking about giving one of them heritage revolvers a try. Not a huge investment if it turns out bad, but if I like it, I can buy 2 more(for the same price as the Smith) and give one to the old man and one to my brother. Then all 3 of us could go out and have a good time plinking.

I wouldn't buy a revolver I'd buy a Buckmark semi-auto. They are a lot more fun to shoot. Loading a .22 revolver is a pain. If it must be a revolver buy a Ruger Bearcat. They are fairly inexpensive so when you get tired of it you won't have spent much money. 0 -
I bought my S&W 617 to complement my S&W 586 (357 mag), so I can shoot more for less with the same feel in my hand. Both have the 6 inch barrel with full lug. 0 -
I sure like plinking with my Single Six, but if I'd had to buy it, (it was a gift from my father-in-law) I'd have saved a couple of hundred more to get a Smith. 0 -
I got a used H & R 922 .22 revolver a few years ago, and after a good cleaning up it has been a great plinker.
If I was going to spend a bit more money I'd get a Ruger single six.0 -

Live it up and spoil yourself, you deserve th best, go with a Freedom Arms Model 87:
