  I think that you have to be true to yourself,and sometimes that means doing things that are hard to do. Telling a family member that you cannot endorse them for public office because they............, would be a difficult but necessary thing. To allow them to insinuate that you endorse them could lead to your being precieved in the same light as they are. If they are a crook or a person of low morals, or are just self serving, you have to ask yourself if are you willing to have that same reputation.
  I don't think you need to take a public stand against them, but I think that they must be sure that you will in no way endorse publicly endorse them. Good luck.
