Wouldn't it be simpler, and maybe cheaper to "SECURE" our border by putting up say 2 parallel fences, 4' tall of chain link, 50' apart. Land mines in between. If you make it across, you are a citizen?[:(!] 0 -

What the government has done is ADDED the mexicans that won't work to the welfare rolls. Anyone on welfare is NOT working.

The wall was a stopgap measure designed to deflect attention away from the do-nothing Congress of Dimocraps and Rinos enriching themselves at our expense.
Portions of the wall that were built have already been covered up with silt and sand, negating any effect it may have had.
Nat'l. Guard troops have tried welding portions of it back together, but with schoolbus-sized holes being cut through it every week by drug- and people-smugglers; there's a lot of welding left to be done.

I'm very much against walls, but only because they don't work.
Every single wall in history served more to keep the natives in than foreigners out.
A wall doesn't react (no matter how many sensors you put on the thing) and either lulls people into a false sense of security, thereby allowing their guard to drop; or it becomes a constant burden to repair and keep up, becoming more of a drain than the origial problem.
No, a wall is not the answer.
Instead I think we should construct Border Patrol bases all along the border. Increase the training we give Border Patrol agents and give them the gear so they can keep up long-range patrols all along the border. If Border Patrol agents are armed and trained up to military standards, I guarantee you illegal immigration and drug smuggling would drop by a huge margin.
After all, smugglers and illegals can see a wall miles away, but they may not be able to see a Border Patrol patrol waiting in ambush.0 -

While I'm all for getting rid of the ones who won't work and want to live off of our earnings, what does that contribute to border security and the fact that we don't know who or how many of what nationality with what plans for hurting us have crossed the borders into our country for what reasons and who they might kill or attack?0 -
If the powers that be had any intension of building a fence, wall, mote, or mine field it would have already been done. The funding was, at one time, in place to do it. It's not that the Gov. doesn't know how to do it, they refuse to do it. The Feds have no desire to secure our southern border, and it's not going to happen.
With 20,000,000 illegal aliens already here, I believe that equates to 1 in every 125 people in the U.S. are illegals from Mexico. When you think about it, thats a pretty high percentage of our population.0 -

so if patrols are almost non-existant, as are guards, why not let the locals take target practice and remain silent?? In my mind, if the Gov. has allowed the illegals to come here for several years now virtually unabated, refuses to round them up en mass and send them back, and finally refuses to secure the border with a fence, then I have to conclude that the Feds in fact want them here.
To me this is logical deductive reasoning.0
