local pawn shop policy
So, the one big pawn shop/sporting goods/hunting/fishing store in our town has a "no guns" policy. They are a great local store for pretty much everything you need, with very fair prices on gun & ammo. I think they're even a Class 3 dealer.
However, they have a big sign in their front door that says all firearms brought into the store must be unloaded and checked at the front desk/register.

There was one, El Cajon Gun Exchange, that I used to visit that had one of those signs. I told the manager why I was never going to step foot in that store ever again. And I never have again. 0 -
I see that at a lot of stores, but it refers to guns you are bringing in to have worked on, sold, traded, ect. I can understand why they do it in these cases as there are a lot of dumb/careless people/uneducated people that bring guns into these places.
Most of the time it does not apply to your CCW. If in doubt just ask.0 -
If you are carrying concealed, what the heck is the difference???? Just keep your mouth shut and conduct your business. Do you have to announce to every store or business owner that you are carrying a gun? Jeez, use some discretion. I go in businesses all the time that have a no guns policy, do I check my gun at the door? No, it is concealed and no one has to know! 0 -

...I suspose the sign meets state's requirement's for such a sign...having you "check" the 2nd at the front door, there are requirements.
...If so...break the law, abide by the law...or take your business elsewhere...I'd take my $$$ elsewhere (AFTER I TOLD them what I thought about their damn policy) for they obviously don't want my money, nor would they get another penny...apparantly they don't need it...[;)]

every shooting range that i've ever been to has a no firearms in the rangehouse policy. sad to say it's with good reason as i have seen as many of you have -the most flagrant disregard for safety on the shooting line. at the range in Renton, WA you basically get 1 warning and you are gone-and some rules are no warning-you violate it and you are gone--like not unloading your weapon when the range is called cold. this topic has been discussed before--i totally belive in the right to carry--but i also belive it is a business owners right to say if he wants guns in his place or not-after all it is his/her/company store. it is also your right not to patronize that place of business as well. Cabelas has that sign on their door--no loaded firearms and they are to be checked in before going to the gun dept. The main reason they do this--LAWYERS--you know big businesses HAVE to cover their butt in this day and age of sue happiness. can you imagine some fool going in with a loaded gun and accidently that firearm gets discharged into some other customer--who would get sued--well not the pidly customer who makes dog spit--but of course that persons lawyer will say we are going after the giant greedy store who had no safety policy to protect you.... 0 -

Sportsman Warehouse has this policy,if people would learn to READ first instead of reacting,They will realize this is NOT a sign for CCW law0 -

I did read the sign; it said no gun. It didn't say "no guns unless you have a CCW."0 -
I just ignore these signs. Its not enforceable under law, its just the stores desire. If they don't know I have a gun, they can't care, and we both win. What really bugs me are companies that wont let employees carry on company property. 0 -

Almost every gun shop I've ever been in has such a sign on the door. I'm sure they know that people carrying concealed ignore it.

It sure is enforceable in Indiana and I'm sure in many other States as well. Here it is a misdemeanor to carry a firearm onto private property that is clearly posted.0 -

Not stupid, prudent. Morons will be morons. I'm sure that as long as your concealed gun stays concealed they don't really have a problem with it but for liability purposes they can't actually tell you that.

Right, so if you read those, it seems pretty clear: no firearms whatsoever. I guess you could assume they mean it's OK if you're a legal CCW, but assuming is dangerous. 0 -
The several pawn shops that I frequent have no such signs, the owners know that I carry a concealed pistol and have commented that they are glad I do in the event there is a robbery attempt while I am there. 0 -

[:D]When I lived in OK, a really, really dumb crook walked into a guns/ammo store (after having to walk AROUND a police car parked out front to get into the shop) with the desire to hold up the register. Most of the customers and the LEO all pulled their guns on the guy as soon as he made his illegal intentions clear. Fortunately no shots were fired and it was resolved peacefully.

The Cabela's here in KC has this sign but it explicitly says that it does not apply to CCW.

Most states are at will employment meaning they can fire you for just about anything. Especially true if the policy was in effect when you took the job so you by default agreed to it when you were hired.0 -
