local pawn shop policy
So, the one big pawn shop/sporting goods/hunting/fishing store in our town has a "no guns" policy. They are a great local store for pretty much everything you need, with very fair prices on gun & ammo. I think they're even a Class 3 dealer.
However, they have a big sign in their front door that says all firearms brought into the store must be unloaded and checked at the front desk/register.

About 10 yrs ago while OTR trucking, I was in Barstow Calif. on New Years Eve. Wanted to go party, so I took a taxi from the truckstop to a bar.
When I entered the door cashier noticed my Buck 112 knife on my belt and said I had to let them hold it while I was in the establishment. So I gave it to them and got it back when I left.
I never mentioned the pistol I had in my jacket pocket. And they didn't ask. [:D]0 -

That's the point of an anonymous free gmail account. You can access it via the web without downloading anything to your home computer.

I have a LARGE sign on the door...."NO LOADED GUNS BEYOND THIS POINT"....everyone pretty much knows it only applies to the guns being brought in to trade or pawn. You still wouldn't believe how many "unloaded" guns I unloaded this week alone.....FOUR...a bersa 380...two 38spl....and one 25acp. People are morons. Not all of them.....but a whole dang lot of them. 0 -
I remember, vaguely, from my childhood, a scene from an episode of Amos & Andy.
Kingfish was in a tight for money, and he "borrowed" a pistol off one of his friends, intending to take it to a pawn shop for a loan. He walked into the pawn shop, pulled the gun from his coat pocket, and stated, "I want some money."
Suffice to say, his intentions were misunderstood.0 -

Stopped at a gun shop in Kentucky, while there for Knob Creek. Sign says, If you are carrying concealed, leave it there. Sounds good to me. 0 -

That may be so but are you going to poof every post that elicits strong opinions? The name calling can be despensed with of course, but I'm sure you have pulled your weapon when you felt threatened. You once related a story of a lucky kid that you didn't shoot, but you had your weapon out. Obviously you didn't catch any grief from the gadflys, but your goal is the same as mine; Make sure I go home at the end of the day. If someone has a problem with that are you going worry too much about it? I don't.0 -
Private Property, they make the rules.
I'll bet the storeowner is armed. If he's the only one thats supposed to be armed, that makes identifying threats real easy for him
If you see someone on your land, and you go out to confront them toting your shotgun, do you prefer them to be armed or unarmed.
Even if they are just passing by not causing any trouble (didn't see no-trespassing signs/ a property line for example), I'd bet you would prefer them to be unarmed.
I can understand property owners instituting a "I'm the only one allowed to have a gun around here" policy - They aren't defenseless and can identify threats easier.
Its the "nobody has guns here, not even me, if we see you breaking this policy, all we can do is politely ask you to leave, and hope you don't go on a killing spree before the cops get here" policies I think are stupid.0 -
Remember one gun shop in Newport News VA- had a sign on the door "Before entering, please unload your gun and remove your ski mask" [:p] 0
