You people must have been asleep that week.

Got this off the auction side. A 4" Model 57 in nickel in nearly perfect shape. I watched it for 6 days with a $325 starting price and with 12 hours to go I bid $450 for it. No other bidders showed up so I got it for $325.

Suckers.

    I have some Colts, too, but not nearly as many.

    Your max bid is not revealed. All the screen shows is the current high bid so you have no idea how high the high bidder has bid until you try to top him.

    Sometimes you see bidders making numerous bids at $5 and $10 increments "probing" for the high bidder's max. I just make one bid at the most I am willing to pay and wait to see what happens. Maybe 3/4 of the time when I win an auction I am the only bidder and I buy the item at the seller's starting price. I am a cheap meanie so if someone starts bidding against me, unless it's something I desperately want, I drop out early.

    OK, one more. I buy rifles, too. This 1954 Model 94 was nabbed at the $165 starting price. Gun has a lot of character (bluing wear) but pre-1964 Winchesters bring a premium and I thought this a good deal.

    For me, a big part of the fun in gun shopping getting a good price. If I pay too much I can't enjoy the gun.

    Saxon...It scares me to admit this, but you have mighty fine taste in handguns. Those are beautiful!! Really like that Model 57.

    Getting back to the bidding: Place 2 bids. One starting price. Then your max bid. (Max bid will remain hidden to all but you). If you put max. bid in first, the auction zooms up to your high bid. Be careful. Joe

    OK, I forgot to mention that Dutch auctions will take your max as your starting bid so be careful. But on a regular auction the system will only take what is needed to make you the high bidder. If you bid $100 you are not necessarily committed to paying that much. You may win at $20 if nobody bids higher even with your $100 max.

    I used to be a S&W man. But then I started noticing how many of them have a loose fit at the crane/frame junction. If you doubt, just swing the revolver around so you can closely examine the joint between the frame and crane. Then try putting pressure on the cylinder as if to try and open the cylinder (without pushing the cylinder release button of course). Way too often you will see a gap that is (in my opinion) much, much larger that I can accept open up between the crane and frame.

    I was at Cabela's recently looking for a Taurus (modern Taurus and Rugers tightly lock at the crane/frame junction) and when I couldn't find one I decided to examine two of the S&W ultralites 5 shot .38. Both of them had the gap between the crane and frame. I am still looking for a Taurus ultralite.

    Just my opinion and observations.

    Haven't even been Checking lately. Too broke for now to Bid. [xx(] Picked up to much around Christmas + need to get all my reloading supplies updated and stocked. Just picked up a Dillion 550.

    Also Have an old RockChucker that I will use for some rifle rounds I wish to do some work ups on.

    This payday I'm after Ammocans. Already one the Bids I placed ou, so should have enough there.

    I generally prefer those pre-1987 guns (when the Brits took over S&W from Lear Sigler)
