Tax rebate breakdown
Individuals who pay income taxes would get up to $600, working couples $1,200 and those with children an additional $300 per child under the agreement. Workers who make at least $3,000 but don't pay taxes would get $300 rebates.
The rebates would phase out gradually for individuals whose income exceeds $75,000 and couples with incomes above $150,000, aides said. Individuals with incomes up to $87,000 and couples up to $174,000 would get partial rebates. The caps are higher for those with children.

She pays virtually nothing in taxes, because all of her dough is set up in "muni" funds, and individual issues,........they are tax exempt, as long as they are non-AMT muni's.
She makes millions per year in interest, and pays virtually nothing in taxes.

HBBG,....it isn't "rich" folks bitchin about their lot per se.
You would have to look at the tax tables, and see how the top percentages of wage earners pay far more than their share of the total tax income taken in by the government.

I am a regular joe with a HS education, that simply busted my azz.
I come from a family of blue collar workers,.....many were coal miners. I simply worked very hard, and have reaped some rewards from that.
Isn't that how it is meant to be?

My tax refund isn't bogus, it's real. If you pay more taxes than I do then you make more $$$ than I do. But I'm not sure how you know this unless your an IRS agent that has broken the law.

You should ask our government this question. It's not my idea or plan. I'm just an expendable pawn in the equation and am living with what is shoved down my throat just the same as we all are.

I have never been into class warfare,.....and never will be.
Folks earn what they do as a result of their work. Many make far more than I do. I am not in the income class of Kristov, and probably not Maalox, but I do not believe that they are somehow evil, and don't deserve what the "masses" NEED to get back from nanny government.
You have taken this to a "personal" level by your comment above,.....I have not attacked anyone. I am simply waiting for a rational explanation of why the folks that pay far more of the tax burden, and don't even know what a yearly tax REFUND looks like, are somehow "evil and greedy", by not feeling that this is fair.
By "evil and greedy" I mean that by some responses I've read people feel they are getting screwed cause they aren't getting back 100% of what they pay in taxes. Plus they think the "rebate/refund" should be in their hand tomorrow.

The 600 bucks is not going to change my life, but I am amazed at the feelings here towards folks that may have done a bit better than others, and how they should "pay the price".
Rant is over, and I have no ill will towards you, that you appear to have towards me, and others.
Again another false assumption, but many that don't get the rebate seem to hate the ones that are getting a rebate, because they are gettng a rebate.

Let's put tax cuts in terms everyone can understand. Suppose that every day, ten men go out for dinner. The bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:
The first four men - the poorest - would pay nothing; the fifth would pay $1, the sixth would pay $3, the seventh $7, the eighth $12, the ninth $18, and the tenth man - the richest - would pay $59.
That's what they decided to do. The ten men ate dinner in the restaurant every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement - until one day, the owner threw them a curve (in tax language a tax cut).
"Since you are all such good customers," he said, "I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily meal by $20." So now dinner for the ten only cost $80.00.
The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes. So the first four men were unaffected. They would still eat for free. But what about the other six - the paying customers? How could they divvy up the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his "fair share?"
The six men realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, Then the fifth man and the sixth man would end up being PAID to eat their meal. So the restaurant owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.
And so the fifth man paid nothing, the sixth pitched in $2, the seventh paid $5, the eighth paid $9, the ninth paid $12, leaving the tenth man with a bill of $52 instead of his earlier $59. Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to eat for free.
But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings. "I only got a dollar out of the $20," declared the sixth man who pointed to the tenth. "But he got $7!"
"Yeah, that's right," exclaimed the fifth man, "I only saved a dollar, too . . . It's unfair that he got seven times more than me!".
"That's true!" shouted the seventh man, "why should he get $7 back when I got only $2? The wealthy get all the breaks!"
"Wait a minute," yelled the first four men in unison, "We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!"
The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up. The next night he didn't show up for dinner, so the nine sat down and ate without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered, a little late what was very important. They were FIFTY-TWO DOLLARS short of paying the bill! Imagine that!
And that, boys and girls, journalists and college instructors, is how the tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up at the table anymore.0 -
