Tax rebate breakdown
Individuals who pay income taxes would get up to $600, working couples $1,200 and those with children an additional $300 per child under the agreement. Workers who make at least $3,000 but don't pay taxes would get $300 rebates.
The rebates would phase out gradually for individuals whose income exceeds $75,000 and couples with incomes above $150,000, aides said. Individuals with incomes up to $87,000 and couples up to $174,000 would get partial rebates. The caps are higher for those with children.

The difference is that this is MY money that the government for some stupid reason has decided to give back to me. Last year I paid a little over $5500 in, plus whatever my wife paid (have to get the return and look, and don't feel like digging it out now). It isn't money that they are just "giving" me. You are looking at about $3200 at 4% interest after 30 years. Add just $120 per year (10 bucks a month) and it shoots up to $10,000 after 30 years.0 -

To those of you not getting any tax refund: Seems like a big complaint. I, for one, don't ever want to experience that kind of problem.
...what do I have to do to avoid falling into the "no tax return" status? Seems like more trouble than it's worth. Any ideas? You must know what you did to earn such a terrible headache. Any way out? Joe0 -

I wonder....I am Early retired (51), and just taking early distibution 72(T) from my retirement fund. Wife and I live on less than $100K/yr right now, not on Social Security. Are we a "Working Couple"?? There were many years I paid over $50K in taxes. Are we ineligible, even though we pay about $15K/yr taxes? Do we get $0, $600?, $1200? This will be interesting.

Why if I make over 75K, and pay the corresponding taxes, am I not able to get at least the lousy 600 bucks back?

Folks earn what they do as a result of their work. Many make far more than I do. I am not in the income class of Kristov, and probably not Maalox, but I do not believe that they are somehow evil, and don't deserve what the "masses" NEED to get back from nanny government.
You have taken this to a "personal" level by your comment above,.....I have not attacked anyone. I am simply waiting for a rational explanation of why the folks that pay far more of the tax burden, and don't even know what a yearly tax REFUND looks like, are somehow "evil and greedy", by not feeling that this is fair.

I remember arguing with folks when I was making 12 bucks an hour about how Bill Gates was evil, and should have most of his money taken away, because he had TOO much!

i definatly believe in capitalism but for folks like Bill Gates.... do they need the 600 dollars at all??? No.
That doesn't justify them not being treated fairly in regards to a tax refund but...
people who make over a certain income bracket should be required to help thier fellow americans.

Bill Gates,.... and I only use him as an example, gives more to charity each year than most will earn in their lives.
Believe it or not, the top income earners pay the vast majority of the taxes that fund all of the wonderful government programs.
Look up the figures sometime if you want to learn the truth.
When the day comes that those folks are taxed to the point that it is not worth their work, and creation of jobs, what do you believe they will do?
They will "retire", and many folks will be left unemployed.
Who do you believe creates the majority of the jobs in this country,........."evil corporations", and small business folks like myself, although that does not apply to me to any degree at this point.
The Dems are attempting to create an underclass of folks that rely on the government programs, and once it passes 50%, they will maintain power forever,..............at least until it all crashes around our heads.0 -

Look at the tax rate tables sometime,........what folks at that income level pay is mind boggling.

She pays virtually nothing in taxes, because all of her dough is set up in "muni" funds, and individual issues,........they are tax exempt, as long as they are non-AMT muni's.
She makes millions per year in interest, and pays virtually nothing in taxes.
