?? new LEO tactic?
Driving home tonight on the interstate, noticed two police cars had two other cars pulled over. Aware of their presence, watching speed limit, came upon another squad car on the shoulder. I signaled, moved over to the left lane and as I after I passed the squad car, signaled and returned to the right lane. In the rear view mirror, I noticed the police car pull onto the highway and speed up on my rear end and proceed to tail-gate me for about 30 seconds, then pulled over to the shoulder again. What was the point of this? Only thing comes to mind to check for expired tags. Anyone?

I'd say you're over-thinking the situation. You did the right thing. You weren't apprehended. Who knows what the cop was up to? Maybe you looked for a moment like somebody he needed to stop? Maybe he was checking your tabs? Who knows? He didn't do anything illegal, either.
The only time a cop ever pulled out and tailgated me was when I was speeding through a construction zone. The officer very obviously had radar going (though I saw it too late to avoid the trap) and when I sped by him he pulled out behind me. Of course I slowed to the limit and after about a half of a mile he pulled over. I guess he figured he'd made his point (he had).0 -
I agree with spurgemastur, you can only guess. It could have been any number of things. Only the ofcr knows.

I have no idea what he was doing, but I saw something similar about four months ago on my way home from Virginia Beach. A deputy sheriff was playing bumper tag with another guy and almost wrecked him. They got pretty close to me a couple of times. It pissed me off bad enough that I decided if he either wrecked or ticketed the other guy, I intended to pull over and be a witness for the other driver, but the deputy finally pulled around both of us and hove out of sight. 0 -
they got me with that one time. rode 10' off my bumper until I sped up so I could change lanes and get out of his way (cars next to us, couldn't change lanes unless I sped up) then pulled me over and gave me a speeding ticket.
that was almost 20 years ago. seen all kinds of tricks they play.
they've pulled me over saying I had a dirty license plate (it wasn't), searched my car, then said it wasn't dirty anymore I can go now.
they've waited parked down the street for me to get into my car, and gave me a ticket because I didn't turn on my lights before I pulled out into the street, for the purpose of getting me and my friends to go downtown later and take a lie detector test, claiming some old lady got her purse snatched in the vicinity about that time. yeah right. btw, my friend failed.
driving around, we got pulled over and my passenger got busted for something else, so the cops had my car towed, gave me a ride home, and told me I could pick up my car in the morning. (why did they tow my car then.) went to get it, the linkage to the carburetor was disconnected. ("not supposed to work on your car in the parking lot", screw 'em, I sure as hell did anyway)
one cop at the cop station stole the money out of my pockets.
all kinds of lies about me on police reports. they say whatever they want, nobody believes you over them.
overheard a cop who was out looking for a murder suspect. he said if he sees a gun, it doesn't matter if the guy points it at him or not, he's going to shoot him.
you can NOT trust cops. you don't know which ones are crooked, and the crooked ones can do you a world of hurt. and get away with it.0 -

I have had a cops spread lies about me at work and at jobs I was trying to get.
I really upset them somehow.
Did you do anything to upset them that you know of?
I am not sure what I did but I suspect that it was started by somebody that told them something about me that is untrue.0 -

Not sure what you mean.
Maybe you mean that God or the universe or whatever seems to be in charge has decided that these things need to be done for our own good?

The truly most active cops I've ever seen are in Central, nM; they cruise all day long over their 1.5 mile "turf", and if you are so much as a half mile over the limit, you get a $150 ticket.
They have 6 cars, 4 ossifers, and LOADS of time to find speeders.
Eeriest tactic I have seen lately is the cop in the ditch; there's a cop car in a ditch out in the middle of nowhere, you stop to see if you can help (or see what's left in the cab), and the cop climbs up from around a berm to pop you. Since I was in the "company" truck; he just asked if I needed anything. I told him it looked like he was the one that needed help getting his car out of the ditch, and he said it was amazing how many folks just drove right by. I said it's probably because they've seen this tactic before.0 -

here we have local yokels who go set on the free way 2 miles from town to try to get speeders, it,s easier to eat their donuts setting there than stopping crime in town. and they watch to many crime shows on tv and develop the us verses them complex, where all citizens are thought to be crimminals and treated that way. the best thing you can do is go to a lawyer and pay a retainer fee for one hours service, when needed over the next year. here it,s about 100.00. and carry his lawyer card with you at all times and if you are stopped for any thing, ID your self and hand the officer the card and shut up. no matter what you say will not usely sway the office one way or the other. he,s going to do what he wants any way. eastbank. 0 -

The police work for you. If you are not getting satisfactory service, and you don't do anything to change it, you deserve to keep getting unsatisfactory service. That is true of any service industry, as well.0 -
When I was younger a cop fell in behind me. He wasn't tailgating but it was pretty obvious he was focused on me. I just signalled and pulled off to the right and stopped the car. I guess either that satisfied him or he woke up, anyway he continued on and so did I.
Maybe he had a discription of a stolen car or whatever. No big deal.
I'm sure he would have been impressed at the 300 lbs of reefer in the backseat! [}:)][:p][:D]0 -
What happens sometimes is that under the orange street lights a license plate tag appears to be one color. But when you get close enough to see the tag with white headlights you can make out the true color of the tag.
That's the one bad thing about the high pressure Sodium street lights.0 -

I've had very few problems with any state/local police (I have no tickets or accidents on my record)
I have noticed, however, that the LESS power some forms of enforcement/protection agents have, the bigger the A-hole they are.
This is of course, speaking of Kansas City. Im my hone county in Arkansas, the police are corrupt enough to make Putin proud. Lots of drug running going on down there. Nobody can do much as most of the police are related through several families.0 -

The boss gets elected and the boss doesn't care. I've written the boss (my county sheriff) several times. I am civil, polite, and respectful.
Guess how many times I've received an answer?
If you chose "Zero" or "None" you'd be 100% spot-on.
Now, in the last election, I had a choice to vote for this guy who doesn't give a crap or his Democratic opponent who clearly indicated it was wrong for private citizens to own guns. You can imagine what my choice was - take someone who had a strong 2nd Amendment stance but doesn't listen to me, or choose someone who has a strong anti-2nd Amendment stance and still won't listen to me because I'd be a nut because I owned guns.
I've made the following complaints:
1. My neighbor who refuses to register his Porsche and BMW. He keeps changing out 60-day tags because he's a car dealer. He's been unable to find a means to purchase license plates for two years.
2. His department's lack of clarity regarding my ability or lack thereof to use blanks to train my dog for hunting. I asked if someone could please provide me a clear answer as to whether it was legal or not.
3. The same deputy who almost daily cannot seem to wait for the red light by my house. This is a fairly quiet neighborhood and I refuse to believe he is responding to an emergency every day that doesn't require his sirens and lights.
4. Asking if we could have someone patrol our neighborhood at night when vandalism was getting out of control... you know, like the deputy above who is always responding to an emergency.
When I write my Congressman, Senators, or state representatives, I at least get a form letter thanking me for taking the time to contact them.0 -

One of the Dallas TV stations has this really abrasive, obnoxious investigative reporter, Becky Oliver. She LOVES to go after big businesses, cops, judges, public officials, who aren't doing their jobs, or who are screwing over people. I figure there is a Becky Oliver in everyone's back yard. I think the sneakiest thing I've ever seen them do was back in the late 1970s when I was driving through Maryland. I passed a mule drawn hay wagon on the Interstate and when I got alongside him I noticed he had VASCAR right there on the side of the hay wagon.

We have those big electronic message board signs down here in Texas and yesterday they were all flashing a message that said, "kidnapped child, Austin, Texas, gray VW Jetta". I drove over 400 miles yesterday so I saw several of those signs and they all were flashing the same message. If you were driving a car similar to this description, any police car who saw it is going to get behind you and check you out. Will do the same for any description they are looking for in a possible suspect. 0 -

nunn i was once pulled over in the same city zuke lives in driving my wife's car, a few days after i called the police on a neighbor for the first time in my life, i handed them my license and insurance card, then i noticed another card, the one i handed them was expired, when he came back i apologised he handed me a ticket for no insurance, i stated i have it, and here is the current proof, he told me i have to take it to court, and i quote " you asked us to do our job the other day, now where doing it today", i replied i am going to have to miss a day of work for this, one quickly stood back pulled a taser, and yelled "your making a scene", i went home called the shift commander told him about the ticket when i had insurance, he told me his officers would not do such a thing, i offered to bring it down, he laughed and told me to take it to court, and hung up, i was punished for calling them previously and was let know it, my neighbor was arrested at the time i called so it wasn't like i did anything wrong0
