What are some things that you guys stop/ticket people for, regardless of what they tell you?

A pet peeve of mine is when a driver, waiting at a red light behind other traffic, and who wants to make a right turn, cuts across a store parking lot to come out on the cross street. It is a violation and it is dangerous.
Another is passing a school bus with its flashers on.
No insurance. By God, I have to have it; so do you.
Expired inspection and/or registration. See my remarks about the insurance. Besides, if it is less than 60 days out, and you get it right, the judge dismisses the fine and charges a $10 paperwork fee. Nobody starves to death over $10.0 -
Ever stop anyone for failure to signal? I HATE it when people fail to signal a turn...! I know already when I start as a patrol officer, that one thing I'm going to stop and ticket people for left and right. 4 offences in the state of Wisconsin in 1 year and you'll loose your liscense. 0 -

I hear ya. I've thought about joining our local PD as a reserve officer just to pull people over that are either too stupid or too lazy to signal.0 -
1. Following too closely.
2. Above plus flashing headlights trying to make the other car get out
of their way, when at or above speed limit.
3. Passing on the right, on a shoulder or entrance ramp.
4. Turning right on red light w/o stopping.
5. Entering CAH (controlled access highway) without looking to see
if the lane was clear, just turning on their signal and demanding
other vehicles to get out of the way.
When I went to plain car this happened a lot. Imagine how fun it was to have some fool flash his lights while tailgating me.
In other words, people driving while stupid were sure to see me. These kind of drivers can cause wrecks and be safely gone without ever thinking how stupid they were.
Speeding a few miles over the limit if otherwise safe for the existing conditions and not doing above didn't get my attention. DWI and C&R excepted of course.0 -

Failure to Dim.[V] Will get you a citation for sure. There is no excuse but one and that will get you an equipment citation.

running your car with any flashing lights (other than hazards) or neon colored bulbs is illegal around here 0 -
I'm no LEO but speeders are my pet peeve. I hate to see people driving over the limit. I'm only in my 20's mind you. Unless its an emergency their is no reason for it. If your running late its your own damn fault. Don't cause a possible hazard to others by flying down the road weaving in and out of traffic without a turn signal flashing. [:(!]

Used to tick me off when people thought my high beams were on and would put theirs on as punishment. When I stopped them, they would often say that mine were bright as well. Well, mine were because they came that way and I kept them clean. I even had them checked by the dealer. They would say that mine were too bright and they couldn't see. I would tell them something to the effect that "So you decided it would be better to put your high beams on so that neither of us could see?" I often gave warnings but I hate drivers who use their vehicles as weapons.
Pass school bus with lights on-Automatic ticket-I think all cops feel this way. Same with weaving in and out of traffic at high speed or following too closely.
No life jackets on boat-yup, ticket-My line-"I'd rather give you 10 tickets then pull your dead body out of here just once.0 -

All I can say is, it won't take very long for a LOT of pre-conceived notions about law enforcement to go out the window. Unless you turn out to be just a ticket junkie, speeding will be the least of your concerns. DUI/DWI were always my pet peeves and I led my department 4 years in convictions. 0 -

I've had 2 Fords. A '89 F150 and a 2000 Extorter. I've noticed on both of them, no one ever flashs their brights if I forget to dim them. Ford's brights aren't that bright. 0 -

I haven't done vehicle & traffic enforcement for many years, but when I did my pet peeve was Failure to Signal Change of Lane.
These days I am quick to stop someone talking on their Cell Phone. I drive an unmarked vehicle and I am normally in a suite, so it is easier to catch other drivers unaware. I have yet to write one a citation, but they get the point, and seem grateful for getting a break.

I hear your argument about how it's stupid to blind the other driver so that neither can see BUT....I think the technology has advanced faster than the law has advanced. I often find myself entirely blinded by those newfangled high-intensity lights. And I mean blinded to the extent that I can't even follow the fog-line on the right side of my own lane. The only way I'm driving at that point is to assume that the oncoming vehicle is in its lane, and to stay a little to the right of what it's doing. I would REALLY like to see limits on how bright a headlight can be.
My car sits way lower than everybody elses car, and those HiD (hi intensity) bulbs blind me every time, especially when theyre behind me at a light, so i try to turn my side view mirror so it shines into their eyes through my back window.0 -

I'm right there with you Doug, I personally feel that the speed limits are compleatly outdated and need to be dramaticaly increased. These speed limits were set in the 1950's, how much better are the cars today? How much better are the tires today? I find no reason that I should not be able to drive at 150 MPH in a car that I legaly race at 175 mph. If the conditions are safe and the road is open I should be able to drive at what ever speed I wish. The most dangerious thing on the road is not a car driving at 100 MPH, no, it is 30 cars diving at a constant speed and one dufus driving 30 mph slower.0 -

I got a warning for doing 70 in a 55 while passing on an up hill double yellow left hand turn only because I spotted the cop and pulled over before he had a chance to pull onto the road and turn his lights on.
When he got to my window he thanked me for not making him give chase because he admitted he probably wouldn't have been able to catch me. He was a state trooper and he knew who I was and my familiarity with the back roads and valley in the area.0 -

tccox-I'm not in the business right now so it doesn't matter. I never took a pylon but I did sometimes leave a piece of paper to remember me by. And since I was doing nothing wrong and the other driver was, the judge usually agreed with me. I hope you have a good day also.[;)] 0 -

Gunfuco, and what was the other driver doing other than trying to see the road? Hey, come to Mississippi and welcome to the good old boy club. The judge ALWAYS agrees with the largest contributor. look at the Rickey Scrubs bribrary case going on in MS now.
The richest lawyer in the state trying to bribe a judge in a 45 million lawsuit and he tries to bribe the judge with only a 40 thousnd dollar offer!! Hell If I was a judge, I would report his ass too!!
Hey son, my couzin is now sheriff of my county and my uncle was chief of polize for many years. I am PRO LE, have been and always will be. They are just people like me and you, we have a job to do. I am retired military, we all put on a uniform and hope to go home at night. Put your brights on me and I cannot see, I am going to give the right back to you. Rather see you take a barrier than me. As to the complaints about the "bright" low beams. On numerous occasions I have seen where the headlights are not positioned properly and when the beams are on dim, they are actually blinding oncoming traffic and when they are on bright, the beam is aiming over the roof of oncoming traffic and does not bright the other driver until they are just about right in front of you. A quick trip to a body shop can clear this problem in less than 10 minutes. 0
