    Trinityscrimshaw....

    From your post:

"These days I am quick to stop someone talking on their Cell Phone."

Do you extend the same courtesy to members of your own profession?

Gunfunco, I guess I sort of need to clarify something. naturally, I am driving with my brights on. I meet a car and within a few hundred yards, I put my low beams on. We get closer and closer, no responce from oncomming guy, I blink my lights. If nothing and I am getting blinded, I put my brights back on and that is usually where they will stay. If the oncomming guy will blink his or give me some sort of sign that he is on dim, I will just try to read the white line and hope to miss him.

I have had guys flash lights that wouldlook like landing lights for a C-5. With all this jacked up stuff, I guess it is hard to have lights that are legal all the time. However, there should be some standards out there that all vehicles should follow!! How about that?? Tom

Another one of my pet peeves is when people put their registration stickers all over the back plate. The envolopes that the stickers come in are pretty clear on where each sticker goes. The month sticker goes in the bottom left corner, and the year sticker goes in the bottom right corner. I've seen a couple of vehicles where every inch of space on the plate, except for the alpha-numeric code, is covered in year stickers. I just want to choke those people for being so retarded. It's not a contest to see who's had the same plates for how long.

    1. Throwing cigarettes into the street, a pet peeve.

If any LEO on here has ever written a ticket for this, I'll name my first born son after you. I see people do this all the time and it bugs the living @#$@#(! out of me. If you're going to smoke, stub out the butt and throw it away. How the heck did it become so acceptable to litter?

I'm no LEO but speeders are my pet peeve. I hate to see people driving over the limit. I'm only in my 20's mind you. Unless its an emergency their is no reason for it. If your running late its your own damn fault. Don't cause a possible hazard to others by flying down the road weaving in and out of traffic without a turn signal flashing. [:(!]

Keep it on the race track!

That's a 'punk' attitude! Traffic moves so much faster than the speed limit sometimes around here you'd get bitch slapped for driving some of these stupid slow speed limits! If I'm running late it's probably because some dumb ass illegal mexican wrecked his car into you driving too slow and caused a massive traffic jam...and now I'm going to be late.

As for the race track comment; KMLWA, Grandma!

I agree!!! Keep it on the track if you want to speed. Why should others be killed or injured because you dont want to follow the speed limit. As far as the illegal mexican causing the wreck. It was probably caused by a knucklehead speeding because he got up late and didnt want to get bitch slapped for being late to work. But Im sure if your family or friends were killed or injured by speeders it would be perfectly ok. List to the kid, he might only be 20 but it's my pet peeve too[:D]

    LIES

in missouri, the month goes on bottom, and year goes on top, right in the middle of the plate between the actual numbers

If they would start putting ash trays back in vehicles, maybe people would use them, until then mine go out the window. They'll deteriorate in a month or so.

    That would be mine....

Yes, I have written hundreds of tickets for that. I got real tired of seeing piles of butts up against the curbs in the left turn lanes.

I was splitting traffic (riding my motor between lanes of stopped cars) one day when a guy threw a lit cigarette out his window and hit me with it. I had hot ashes on my uniform and gas tank of my motor.

I hit the brakes, looked back and eye fu*+#@ him. He tried to slide under his dash, but there was no room. We then had a friendly chat on the side of the road as I gave him his ticket.

I hear your argument about how it's stupid to blind the other driver so that neither can see BUT....I think the technology has advanced faster than the law has advanced. I often find myself entirely blinded by those newfangled high-intensity lights. And I mean blinded to the extent that I can't even follow the fog-line on the right side of my own lane. The only way I'm driving at that point is to assume that the oncoming vehicle is in its lane, and to stay a little to the right of what it's doing. I would REALLY like to see limits on how bright a headlight can be.

    Right you are, spurgmastur.

Around the year 1700, the slang verb cop entered English usage, meaning "to get ahold of, catch, capture." By 1844, cop showed up in print, and soon thereafter the -er suffix was added, and a policeman became a copper, one who cops or catches and arrests criminals. Copper first appeared in print in 1846, the use of cop as a short form copper occured in 1859. I have also heard the story about the English officers that wore uniforms with "copper" buttons...or Cops for short..

Very, very few are "automatic tickets" until I find out the entire story.

As an example, the one driving with the headlights slightly out of adjustment might've just borrowed it and is making a quick trip down the road. Hammering this guy with the fine wouldn't really be a fair corrective action.

Discretion and use of common sense when charging people with any offense isn't a privilege, it's a duty that's too often neglected these days.

In Calif, equipment violations are the responsibility of the "owner" of the veh, not someone who borrowed it.

If another person is driving the veh, you simply write an "owners responsibility" ticket if its an equipment problem. The "non-owner" driver does not sign the ticket or get a copy. It is mailed to the registered owner later.

I always gave a couple of courtesy "high beam flashes" to remind the other driver that his high beams were on. I often gave warnings even after I stopped them, but their responses when I contacted them weighed heavily in my decision. (Michigan law is you must switch to low beams when within 500 feet of an approaching vehicle.) Again, I really disliked drivers who liked to use their vehicles as weapons. (Like those that follow 3 feet behind a driver doing the speed limit, flashing their high beams, trying to get them to pull into the right lane.) I know that the slower traffic is supposed to move right, but it is often the aggressive driving attitude that cause the more severe accidents.

As far as the lit cigarette butts out the window, I only wrote them on a couple of occasions, usually when there was an open burning ban on.

Many cigarette smokers have no idea how many grass fires they start in the dry season. They are half a mile away when the grass ignites. I have on a few occasions stopped and put out fires along the road that were started by cigarette butts. I had some basic training in determining the "point of origin" of a fire and found cigarette butts at the point of origin.

I don't think twice about tossing cig butts. I've got to irritate the anal somehow, and it really is an easy way.

Do you cigarette butt tossers realize that the filters do not decompose? The paper may, but not the filter itself. I remember picking up filters on my base that got dug up from the sand...they had to have been left over from the first gulf war.

GUNFUNCO, OK brother, we are in agreement!! After a blink or two the onwcomming guy needs to do something. I sure hate it when he flashes something like a welding torch to indicate he is on low beams. You know darn well he cannot be legal. Write his sorry butt up!!

Cig butts: I used to smoke but no longer do. I never really thought about tossing butts out the window when thru. I sure hope I never poked anyones eye out with a thrown butt!! Tom

Then it would also be littering to throw out an apple core. Both are biodegradable, and even before they break down, the street sweeper will get them. Go after more important things, instead of your personal hate of smokers, shesh.

If I'm in the city, big friggin deal. If I'm afield hunting or fishing, I break the cherry off and put it in my waste bag / pocket.

My blinkers don't even work, so I'm guilty of not signaling. Haven't used a blinker in years. When it really matters (rarely), I use a hand signal. Got pulled over one time for not using my signal, and I told the blind cop I used a hand signal, we went back and forth. Then the cop asked my passenger if I used a hand signal, of course he's gonna side with me, and the cop walked away from it.

2 seatbelt tickets and counting, I'll pay the $10 ... too much water in my area to be strapped into my car.
When the bridge in Minneapolis collapsed, mother and daughter strapped in tight as a drum, drowned because they couldn't get out of their restraints. Should be choice.
