Liquor legality question.

Later this month I will be going to North Carolina with a friend to pick up an outdoor wood boiler. I am only going to cover some of the driving so that we don't have to stop.

My question is how much alcohol can I purchase out of state and return with.

I would like to buy some Everclear which is not available near me. My friend claims that it is illegal to cross state lines with it.

    Get a hold of some snake wine from Vietnam or cambodia...interesting whats inside the bottle. Wine my #$s, that is pure grain alcohol.

    Getting back to 200* (sorry, don't know how to put the little "degree" symbol up here)..Graves' folks say they have to bottle quickly, through some closed tapping process. It's to keep evaporative loss/fire hazard to a minimum.

    Their product, when opened, will evaporate. Less liquid. The remaining liquid will stay at 200*.

    Tasteless. WowWeeee!!! in a punch. Or to make alcohol soaked cherry-bombs.

    All of the local retailers have an order catalogue from the distributor. See if the dist. carries the Graves' product. Perhaps you don't have to travel at all! Best, Joe

    A few points.

    Its 96% alcohol because alcohol molecules naturally adhere to water, and getting out that last 4% would be prohibitively expensive, with no practical benefit.

    Absolute ethanol is legal to possess in EVERY state. . .you can buy denatured alcohol in any hardware store. . .though NON-denatured alcohol may be illegal to sell in certain states.

    As to simple possession. . .don't know, though I don't really see why anyone would care if you had a bottle or two in your medicine cabinet.

    If you were foolish enough to put it in a standard vodka bottle, well. . .short of testing or drinking it, who would even know?

    Personally, I see little use for the stuff. I actually have used it as lamp fuel, and I keep a little in my garage for use as a solvent. Cut 30% with water it would make a good disinfectant. Nice for a camping trip or survival kit that way (never goes bad, and could be used potentially as fuel, disinfectant, or intoxicant).

    But drinking it? No thank you. Basically guaranteed to cause chemical gastritis on contact with an empty stomach.

    I suppose there might be mixed drinks where using this could be an advantage, though personally, I never drink those anyway, and 151 ought to work nearly as well.

    Only possible consumption use I would have for the stuff is to make liqueur. You can make quite a nice lemoncello with this stuff, lemon rinds, and sugar.
