Proper route to get school superntdt. fired? Help!
Here's the deal. This is going to make you irrate. Friday, at my daughter's k thru 2nd elementary school there were two abduction attempts. We had already had complaints about lack of security there in November when the Al-quaida threats against schools were being touted. Their response? Close the gate in the 4' high fence! Now this happens. Here's the breakdown. Morning recess, child reports a man tried to lure her with a sucker. She was not fooled and reported it to her teacher. Teacher sends her to office. Principal is not at her post (still unclear where she was but wasn't at school) and the roving principal was not there either. Child was TOLD not to lie by office manager and sent back to class! Lunch recess, 2nd grade boy is lured by male. His friend runs screaming that the man has him over the fence, choking him, holding a knife, telling the boy he wants to kill him. Man let's child go. Principal is still nowhere to be found. Police are NOT called untill 2 hours later near the end of the day! THIS HAPPENED ON FRIDAY. Last night our children arrive home with a short note from Principle informing us of the incident, and one from the school district "psychologist" [:(!] playing down the seriousness of the event! 72 hours later notification?!?! Special board meeting to be held )last night, monday). At the meeting the Superintendent says this needs to have "a modification of policy"! Apparently there is NO policy to modify is my thoughts. When the meeting begins to get heated, the super states "this is NOT a crisis situation and will not be dealt with as such"!! Meeting was put in recess, parents wandered out into the hall to discuss, having the doors closed behind them, summarily "excused". So, the fact that we could be preparing to attend a 2nd graders funeral, and the guy still being at large because no action was taken TWICE!!!, is not a crisis situation?!?!?! We want her fired, the principal fired, and the office manager who dismissed the first child as being a liar when this man could have been apprehended since he obviously loitered for hours more waiting for another chance, fired!
I have fired off an email to my state assemblyman. Was this the right step? I was so mad I had to do something last night, and I figured he was the highest local authority for these folks. Right or wrong? Those who understand the workings of all this, your help is needed. This was in NE Colorado btw if that helps?

print this story in the local paper and all parents show up to the local school board in force. be sure to call ahead and put your cause on the meeting agenda[;)][;)]be shure to invite your congressman, county sheriff, state police and news media 0 -
I think it depends on the state on how public schools are set up. In Ohio though, the only way for the Superintendent to be fired would be by the school board. The school board of course it set on elections and I don't know how you can remove a school board member unless they are not voted in.
I think I would be contacting some news agency close by. They usually love things like this and eat them up for lunch.0 -
The denver Fox affiliate was contacted and sent a team down to cover it and was on the 9 o'clock news with live report. But will they follow up? Probably not. 0 -
1: Agitate to keep kids from school.
2: Notify Local Papers and Media about same.
3: GO TO Local Congressmens'/Senators' offices
4: Letter to State Education Association, Certified, and Return Receipt requested.
5: Letter as above, to National Education Association.
6: If you think it will help, and if you don't mind them messing with your kid(s), request "Mental Health Counselling" from School.0 -

Have all parents take the there children out of school.(this will get attention)Keep children home until the problem is fixed...
It will shut the school down people will be put on unemployment

If it happened here, the only way to fire the principal or Superintendent is through the School Board. These people are elected to represent the communitee. The office manager might be a union position or enough of an underling for is just "doing her job". The root cause is probably higher up (principa or superintendent). 0 -
I know of one grade school that places recess under lockdown if the monitors observe anyone lotiering outside the playground fence. They will walk up to the person, even any soccer mom, and ask them to leave or they will have to bring all the children inside. 0 -

Email every local news station, call the police, put signs up all over town, radio stations, tell all the local businesses to spread word.
Once the whole town shows up at the meeting, he will be a can of SPAM0 -

I had a problem with the local school district. Broken bone # 1&2. My daughter broke both arms in her gym class on the second to the last day of school. I understand that the teacher was having an affair with another teacher and was not at the class where she was suppost to be. There is a parent teacher program where the parents are "partners in education" and so my daughter was being taught by some parent. The parent had the kids do backwards races and that is how my daughter had her accident. My wife took her to the doctors and had both arms set in casts. The next day was some sort of picnic program and there was a pool. The teacher let my daughter into the pool and the casts got wet and ruined. My wife goes back to the doctor and gets new casts. I go to the school and say that backwards races are stupid and I could sue you. Also letting a person into the pool was also stupid because there was a good chance that the casts would get ruined. Not all people have insurance and may have finicial problems replacing the casts. I am not going to sue but be warned I will if you do a bonehead thing like this again I will.
Broken bone #3. Soon after school reopens my daughter caught a basketball the wrong way and her finger was jammed/broken. Not the schools fault. What was note worthy was that the school nurse, according to my daughter, says "what you again" in a irritated don't bother me voice. I call the school. I say I know it was a accident but the attitude of the school nurse does not inspire confidence.
Broken bone #4. Couple months later, this time on the high jump. I understand that the teacher was "busy" again (not there) and forgot to teach how to do the high jump. I get out the calculator and figure that if my daughter graduates and has the same rate of broken bones she will have to have 42 broken bones to get out of high school. I also know that if the broken bones happened while she was at home the school would have called child protective services on me. I get a lawyer and sue.
I have my own ideas about things. I told the lawyer to present this offer to the school district. Have the teacher get a broken arm under controlled conditions like my daughter's broken arm and I would drop the lawsuit and pay the lawyer fees for my daughter's lawyer only. He said he made the offer but it didn't happen. I figure why punish the taxpayers when it was the fault of the teacher.
My daughter won the suit. I got what I mainly wanted. My daughter graduated with out breaking any more bones.
Sue them all and bargain to drop it (or get less money) if the problem principal and superintendent are terminated.
Keep in mind that a child molester is probably still loose because the principal did not do her job.0 -
What about the "mandated reporter" law. Any teacher, psychologist, principal, etc MUST report any child endangerment to law enforcement, and I believe there is a time limit. Would that law not apply?

Nobody did their job! This a-hole made it easy for them to catch him, almost....almost as if he wanted to be caught, not quite, he was obviously just stupid, too stupid to run away after the first incident. But hey failed twice in one day, and the super says "this is not a crisis situation"!!!!!!!!!! [:(!] I wonder if she was kidnapped and murdered or her child was, maybe then it would be a crisis. No one will be fired. Isolated event. Question is.. where was the teacher supervision on the playground? Your barking up the wrong tree to cause someone to get fired. Should be looking at a solution to cure the criminal aspect outside the playground. Sounds like a place I would not want to live. Have the children stay home... Not in our state. You would be arrested for truency (sp) for not sending your children to school. Teachers are on contract and get paid one way or another. No children would be a vacation for them. 0 -

Teacher seem to be on vacation when they are AT work, compared to when I was in school. My daughter brings homework home since kindergarten, so in order for her to receive a low standard education by world standards, I get to do half of her work with every night from 5:00 to 6:00. Yeah![V]0 -
Have you been to a teacher / parent conference this year? The Teacher will point out what areas your child is weak in. Being involved with homework is good. As long as you are not doing the work for them but assistance only. Everyone wants to blame the Teachers. When after all what if that same senerio happened in the street in front of your home? Yes SF, I attend her meetings and force the teacher to go into great detail, believe it or not my daughter is the most imporatnt and best thing that ever happened to me and I love her much more than life itself. Therefore I enjoy spending time with her in the evening on her homework and when I can get the bulb to come on, it is gratifying, I am just annoyed that I have to. I don't remember having any homework until the 3rd grade and that was because we asked for it because older siblings had it and we were jealous, and I got a much much better education than she is getting. 0 -

There is only ONE solution to your problem: Private school! Not being a smart-aleck, but that is really it. The crap in public schools is for the birds. One argument is, "I can't afford it." Bull snot. How important are your kids and their education? Anyone can afford it, if they want. 0 -

Not all the advice is bad. Just a few who have no idea what our school district is up agains financially already.
Check into the private school angle. There is a Catholic School in town that accepts kids of all denominations and has a sliding scale fee.0 -

Force the Teacher? How? You know more than the State in Education of Students? Sounds like you need a career change. Things have changed since you were in school. I am surprised someone on here hasn't said do the Home skoolers thingy. If you want to see the childs curriculum the Principal, Teacher or School Board would gladly show it to you. There are state/federal guidelines your child must meet and I would bet they are getting the guildlines. Ease off and let the people do their jobs. One idea is to simply ask the school to leave your child inside during recess until they give the parents a solution to the security issue of the school.0 -

It sounded like jpwolf was saying he has to force the teacher to give him the details of what and how his daughter is doing; not force the teacher to do her job. That's just the way I read it.0
