Proper route to get school superntdt. fired? Help!
Here's the deal. This is going to make you irrate. Friday, at my daughter's k thru 2nd elementary school there were two abduction attempts. We had already had complaints about lack of security there in November when the Al-quaida threats against schools were being touted. Their response? Close the gate in the 4' high fence! Now this happens. Here's the breakdown. Morning recess, child reports a man tried to lure her with a sucker. She was not fooled and reported it to her teacher. Teacher sends her to office. Principal is not at her post (still unclear where she was but wasn't at school) and the roving principal was not there either. Child was TOLD not to lie by office manager and sent back to class! Lunch recess, 2nd grade boy is lured by male. His friend runs screaming that the man has him over the fence, choking him, holding a knife, telling the boy he wants to kill him. Man let's child go. Principal is still nowhere to be found. Police are NOT called untill 2 hours later near the end of the day! THIS HAPPENED ON FRIDAY. Last night our children arrive home with a short note from Principle informing us of the incident, and one from the school district "psychologist" [:(!] playing down the seriousness of the event! 72 hours later notification?!?! Special board meeting to be held )last night, monday). At the meeting the Superintendent says this needs to have "a modification of policy"! Apparently there is NO policy to modify is my thoughts. When the meeting begins to get heated, the super states "this is NOT a crisis situation and will not be dealt with as such"!! Meeting was put in recess, parents wandered out into the hall to discuss, having the doors closed behind them, summarily "excused". So, the fact that we could be preparing to attend a 2nd graders funeral, and the guy still being at large because no action was taken TWICE!!!, is not a crisis situation?!?!?! We want her fired, the principal fired, and the office manager who dismissed the first child as being a liar when this man could have been apprehended since he obviously loitered for hours more waiting for another chance, fired!
I have fired off an email to my state assemblyman. Was this the right step? I was so mad I had to do something last night, and I figured he was the highest local authority for these folks. Right or wrong? Those who understand the workings of all this, your help is needed. This was in NE Colorado btw if that helps?

Never seen a Teacher who would not discuss the students performance. Forcing a Teacher? Bad wording. Asking a Teacher is appropriate. If at any time a parent is unsatisfied with a Teachers performance or duties, the parent can ASK the Principal to relocate the child into another classroom. I am just giving advice.. 0 -
Plink got it right SF, and even at that it is poorly worded. Anyway her teacher, who I really have no issue with because I believe she is doing a "decent" job (with my help) is not the issue here.

That is what they are doing as of the meeting last night. We as parents have a severe problem with the failures that occured Friday and what the results of those failures very easily could have been. This is as un-acceptable as it gets!0 -
law suit...the school has failed in their duty of care to keep the children safe...you will find that if it costs the school a lot of money they will change their ways real quick! 0 -

I disagree. What goes on outside of the school property is city or county issue. NOT the schools. So would you sue your city if a felon grabbed you child if they were playing in the street?0 -

Short of vigilante justice which is not to far out of line when it comes to this sort of thing, find a lawyer who is willing to file a class action suit against the Super, his staff, their staff, their families etc... That will attract media coverage and in an election year the politicians will swarm to the lights like bugs.
Try picketing the school too. And his house.0 -

Don't go after the district. Go after the toads not doing their jobs. The law suit is for sensationalizing the issues.0 -
Ok is this real???...If it is why is he or she still going there..Why wait for your school to do something...Id take my kid out in a sec if there where not 3-4 police assigned to that school from bell to bell.. 0 -
Contact, the local school board and make a formal complaint. Contact the state dept of education that accredits the school district, you will get further here than a pissing match with an attorney. After that, the Governors office assistant that handles school funding and the states Attorney Generals office. The school board will slow their heals doing what they consider an internal investigation, nothing more than finding ways to keep it quiet. Most district policies on snatch and grab attempts or cases of bodily touch notification are 24 hours, which means you should receive notice the next school day, many districts have gone to a phone notification as well. If you keep it at local level, you will get local small town response, nothing done. The school board is who will determine if the teachers and principal have done their job, it's your job and every other parents job to push their backs against the wall. Enough names on a petition will get you in the door to the school board, and on the floor for the next session. Research is your friend at this point, start at the top and work down. If you choose an attorney, don't use an ambulance chaser and get one from elsewhere. Keep your cool when dealing with these people, your child's safety and well being is more important than anything else as well as every other child you are fighting for right now. 0 -

It was on school property. I do however also disagree, unlees suing the people responsible, and NOT the school is an option. If stupid was criminal, they'd all get life.
. Not so sure I'd feel this way if it had been my daughter. The justice system is completely broken. Remember when it worked somewhat? How often was there a crime of this nature prior to the 70's? Liberals![:(!]0 -

The police are there right now, but it won't last long. Week or two?0 -
I think the school board is the best option right now, back them into a corner and demand heads. Not a lawsuit. We were lucky, but an example must be made before we get unlucky. 0 -

I believe that this was on school property during school hours.
I do know from experience that the school is responsible for the kids even after school is over. They are responsible here in Il until they are home.
There was an instance to where one kid hit another at school and didn't get caught. On the way home, he took care of it good and got a suspension out of it because they were on their way home from school.0
