Do I like the Boyfriend of my Daughter????........

We all know how this goes..... She picks someone the parent can't stand. I get to listen to plans and plans and plans she has for them all of the time. I have to end my day collecting any and all phones throughout the entire house. I have to wake up early enough to see what she has planned to wear....and stay on top of each moment of the day where things might change pace.

Friday nites has been the "bowling nite"....so...when she comes in telling me that they got stuck in the mud. All four of the kids feet are messy. Ontop of that I am told that the boy's FATHER came to the scene and pulled the boy out of the car, punched this boy in the face....and then accused them of lying.


I knew something was fishy about their plans. I asked for them to send me a pics message so I could see where they were....but never got any pic!!! I don't know or really care to hear the details. I just want her to know that I am on top of these things and she isn't out-smarting me. I want her to have fun. I don't need to know where she is every minute of the day....just that she will not place herself in a situation that she should not be in.

I plan to call the dad to find out just why he got so upset with his son tonite? I just want to know if I have heard the whole story.

    ... calm down mom ... if you see a problem, take control.. It's not just your personative
    ... it's you duty as a good mom ... you are the mom/the protector. Why doesn't your
    husband step up - she's his daughter, too!

    I had told her she could go to the movies. When they "got to the movies" I asked for a pic message so I could see that she was where she told me she would be. Its so easy to say "I didn't get your message." If Larry were home right now he would be locked in a room fiddling with something until he calmed down. Good thing that tonite is game nite and he is at my Brother's house along with three other Computer gamer types.

    I'm sure everything is OK ... but know what? Next time lay out your plan (pics/call/
    later on questions whose answers can be verified, etc.) and if any part of it doesn't
    live up to your expectations, YOU dump the boyfriend.

    I've raised two daughters and they knew that if they disrespected their mom - or me -
    or in any way didn't keep on the straight and narrow, we'd take control and either of
    them would be in serious trouble. My two sons never had time for such foolishness.

    If you haven't already, make sure she sees Juno. I think that'd send her the correct
    message.

    I have a friend whose parents were hippies. They had a son who was a devout Christian, republican, jacket and tie-wearing REBEL.

    It's what they do, and I think they do it (I'm not a parent, btw)

    1) to make sure you'll react (insecurity)
    2) just to get you to react (power play)
    3) because it's something they've never done before (exploration)
    4) because (even though they're wrong) it was their own idea (identification)

    and I'm sure there are other reasons.

    If you can get through it without killing each other I'm sure you'll be best friends......in about 15 years.

    Soooo, why doesn't he leave his car at your place and you take them wherever they want to go, you know where they are then, unless they walk.

    Or you could always drive there and go see if they are there

    Don't need to. That cell phone she has been truying to get the pic message from already has a gps chip in it...USE IT

    By the time they are dating age you have either done the job right or not already. While you are still her legal guardian I would stick her with a 5 yr Norplant so atleast you won't be a grandma before you are ready.

    What is funny about all of this is that the DAD of the boyfriend seems to be the one to figure out they were lying first. I think they got the car stuck in the mud and he was called to help get the little crowd unstuck. From what I understand he pulled the little guy out of the car ripping his jacket and might have either slapped the boy....or maybe even punched him. He had a place on the side of his face. I don't know what was going on.

    I'm trying to find that middle ground....where she gets to be rewarded by having fun out with her friends. I just can't keep as tight of a hold on her anymore....it hasn't been working and we've been dealing with major problems because whatever we were doing was the wrong way to deal with her. I'm trying to let her go out some....but if she had told me she wanted to ride the streets with a carload of teens that would be a big-ole'-NO to that. I can't stand the way these teens drive.

    Jacob.....I would take her out, but after driving an hour home it is pretty late to be turning around and going out with a bunch of kids that don't want to be with you anyway.

    Here's my rule of thumb, 'if the same boy shows up at your door more than twice it's your duty as her father to kill him.' Extend-a-hoe's or wood chippers work well. *If using the extend-a-hoe, remember, the black dirt goes on one side, white clay on the other. Black dirt goes back in the hole last.[:D]Dave

    Love is a complicated process of environment and hormonal reactions... possibly even divine intervention...Personally I advise the pill, some rubbers and a wild oats seeder before she tries to make sense of all of the crap.

    LF....hand the pants over to your husband and let him deal with the boyfriends.....your job as mother is to comfort her through the heartbreaks and make sure she's smart enough not to get pregnant at this age!
