SOrry for not listening to you guys. I know I should learn from you.

Yesterday, my 2 year old was diagnosed with a really bad ear infection. No biggie. Dr. prescribed Omnicef, an antibiotic. Wifey took prescription to have it filled at Walmart Pharmacy. brought it home. Bottle says take 2 tsp, 2x per day for 10 days. Well, we gave it to him yesterday, 2x 2 tsps. I gave him 2 more this morning, and looked at the bottle. it was half gone already. I told Mrs. CCE that she needed to call and get a refill because it would only last another day. Bottle says no refills...strange.

So wifey calls and talks to pharmacist. "Oh, that's supposed to be 1/2 tsp 2x/day. My underlings messed it up."

You've gotta be @!$#@#$^#$%^#@ outta your mind! Isn't that the pharmacist's job? to make sure her underlings get my kids' prescriptions right???

So we talked to Dr. again. Dr. says son may have some diarrhea and fever. Yup you got that right. Dr. also says report Walmart to Poison Control. Yup you got that right.
Thanks for listening guys. and sorry to the rest of you whose experiences I did not learn from.
Now I have to go pick up another bottle of the stuff so it will last the full 10 days. And I'm not going to pay for their mistake.

    Ripley, im going to have to say yes, theyre better at other places. I picked up a few presrcriptions at walmart, which i wont do again, but just by the sheer volume of prescriptions i see them filling, theres got to be way more of a chance theyll mess something up.

    Had the opposite happen to me.. I went to the doctors and he gave me 2 prescriptions. Also gave me free samples of the same meds. Went to Sam's club to get them filled and the pharmacys computer screen turned RED with an INTERACTION WARNING. He said you can't take these 2 together.. He then called the Doctor to inform him of his mistake. I'm lucky he only gave me a few samples....[xx(]

    while im willing to concede that pharmacies in other parts of the country may be run differently than in my area, i have not seen any difference in how a pharmacist at the pharmacy v. the supermaket v. walmart does there job.

    any pharmacist can make an error. bad night at home, came to work with a cold, bad handwriting from the md etc. im not defending the pharmacist that filled your order. he definatley screwed up and dispensed an inaccurate prescription. what im saying is he could have made that same mistake if he worked at the supermarket pharmacy, an independant pharmacy or at the hospital. hang him if you like, but dont be fooled into thinking errors cant happen somewhere else.

    my opinion on the plink/rights argument:

    your both half a step away from wearing helmets and licking windows. arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics. even if you win, your still retarded. get over yourselves. a member posted a legitimate topic with a concern about her child and you two "adults" took that oppurtunity to get into a stupid argument. you two dont like each other, fine. avoid eachother on the board. otherwise, you just make yourselves look foolish. jacob is more of an adult that the two of you are today, and he's what like 14.


    cce: i hope your child is or at least is getting well. always double check your prescriptions. people make mistakes....

    not trying to be mean but you always ask the DOCTOR TWICE IF NOT THREE TIMES. Crap happens, just in this case it could of cost a life. Always ask the DOCTOR not the NURSE.

    I didnt know "really bad" was a medical term. How does he know it was "really bad" ? Dont parents always think their kids are "really sick" ? Either way, the advice against children under 4 taking medications for routine infections wasnt given by me but rather by experts. Are you an expert ?


    just so you know, ear infections must be taken care of as soon as possible. it can cause damage to ear drum which means a harder life for the kid in the long run. Also a kids ear on the inside is different from that of an adult, so the drainage inside doesn't drain, it sits there. i know first hand, i use to get ear infections constantly when i was little. And now that I'm older i have sensitive hearing. alot noise's hurt my hears like a son of a b!tch. my parents did take me to the doctors when i asked or needed to, but there wasn't much the doctor could do. just a little FYI, if you do have kids or plan on it, take them to the doctors if there ears hurt. its worth it, and may keep them from problems like mine or worse

    I'll look up whatever the doctor prescribed on the net. I want to know exactly what it is, side effects, dosages, etc. Have not yet run across a dosage discrepancy but have stopped taking something cause I would not accept the possible side effects.

    there are very few pharmacy schools in the country, chances are the pharmacist in the same state attended the same school, the only difference is one may have made A's while another made C's, both can be hired by wal mart or Walgreen's, the best you can find is a hometown pharmacist, i deal with both everyday, fresh out of school with high volume their gonna make mistakes, and the big stores hire allot of pharmacy techs, the pharmacist actually does not fill every prescription it is done by a little better than min wage worker

    take your pick, save a few bucks at the big store, and take your chances

    ?????....foolish statement my man...walmart, riteaid, the pharm, walgreens, ummmm lanes....keep going,,, mom and pop places...they have all done this. Ur mad at walmart why??? cause they are not union???? are you mad because you can go there and save big $$$$...i think so...dont point the blame at walmart for something the pharmist did..BTY check out the eye dept they are sooooo cheap and great service

    Half of the professionals, doctors/lawyers/whatever graduated in the bottom half of their class.

    Walmart was wrong in this case. If they didn't understand the writing, they should have contacted the dr.

    I had an ear infection once. 6 years old. 1977. Doc gave me penicillen. The cure was worse than the disease. I had an allergic reaction. Muscles and joints were stiff all over my body. From the Mendota COmmunity Hospital went to the Swedes in Rockford. FUnny, it's not racists to refer to Swedish Memorial Hospital as Swedes.

    Anyway, they flew me to Rochester Minisota in a Lehr jet.

    They called it Junior Rhuematoid Arthitis. Also had a tumor in my neck.

    Now I have a big scar wrapping down the right side of my neck.
    Doctors weren't too pretty with scars back then.
    It's cool.

    Never did sue my local doctor.
    I do refer to him as Dr. Quack though.
    This country doctor still doesn't have a computer in the office. There is a mountain of files behind the receptionists desk.

    had you ever had a reaction to penicillin, or any beta lactam antibiotics? if not, he wasnt at fault. your first negative reaction to a drug is a freebie. its nobodies fault. i personally deathly allergic to all Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs(NSAID's. asprin, ibuprofen, motrin, aleve, toradol et al).

    Anytime I get a prescription from the doc he goes over with me in the office how much to take and how often. I would have noticed something was up right away.

    It doesn't happen only by WM pharmacists. Our local pharmacist, a really great guy, filled a prescription for my wife. She asked why the pill looked different and he said it was a different generic. She called me about noon and said she had come home for lunch not feeling well, woozy and cramping really bad. I went home to check on her and she asked me to take the pills back to the pharmacy to double check them again. I left about ten of them at home and took the rest back. Quitely asked the pharmacist to speak to me out of range of the other customers. Didn't want to make an embarrassing scene for him. Explained the situation to the pharmacist. He got sort of a blank look and examined the pill. Called someone (presumably the drug supplier) and went got some different pills. He asked me how many she had taken and, fortunately, it had only been one. He had given her muscle relaxers. He was extrememly apologetic. Everyone makes mistakes, though some have more serious consequences.

    If something had happened to my wife, then there would definitely have been some problems for the pharmacist.
