Roger Clemens and the US Senate
I wish Roger would tell them all to go screw themselves and walk out. The bug hub-bub is about whether Roger lying to Congress.
Baseball needs to tighten it's testing, but how much are they going to drag people before Congress for such stupid crap?
It appears to me the Senate is on another Hollywood Commie witch hunt. For what cause? Democrats thought Eugene McCarthy Hollywood Commie hearing were bad. To bring this to that level is a national embarassment.
Thanks Harry Ried. Thanks George Mitchell. Nowcll off your dogs.

If I were Roger, I would tell the Senate to "Suck it hard" and walk out. Dare them to send him to jail. Who the heck doe this Senator Cummins think he is? 0 -
Heck, why don't they drag Rush Limbaugh in there and ask him about his past drug use and doctor shopping. That would be more releavant than Roger Clemens.
Then they can call Bob Dole in and ask him about how often he's used Viagra.0 -
Hell, President CLinton's sexual harasssment investigation and whether the sitting President lied under oath to a grand jury is 1000 times more relevant than this Senate investigation!
Is this where Democrats are taking the US Senate?0 -
He's gonna talk himself right into jail. 0 -
I can't imagine any Congressman/Congresswoman lying!
[:D][:D][:D]0 -
Clemens should tell them to "suck it hard," and walk out.
Doing so is not illegal.
But he is going to go in there and lie, and he will lie himself right into a jail cell.
Basically the same thing that Clinton got into trouble for, not good to lie to the feds.0 -
It's a witch hunt! 0 -
I wonder if the "Politics Nazis Cop Pig" is going to move this posting to politics. I see he is awake and moving post to the vast wasteland. 0 -
TwoDogs--You're right. There was enough reasonable doubt where Clements couldn't have been convicted based on conflicting testimonies of alleged "witnesses". He should have just kept his mouth shut. He's been inviting this.
On a completely unrelated note, I don't see how this is a Congressional issue. This sounds like a Law Enforcement issue to me. Last time I checked, Congress isn't part of the executive branch.
Secondly, do you ever ask yourself how these drugs were made illegal and "controlled" in the first place? The history of the war on drugs is pretty scary when you think about it in terms of the Constitution.
I'm not a big fan of the 60's hippie movement but I am all about free speech. Hoover encouraged law enforcement officers to squash free speech and demonstration against the Vietnam War by using the recently-minted drug laws of the day. The establishment actually thought that marijuana was a cause of the unrest of the country (i.e. "reefer madness").0 -
Yeah, aren't we currently fighting a war, a crumbling economy, decrepit infrastructure.........what the heck is CONGRESS doing in this, anyhow? This is an issue between players and the league. IF there has been breach of contract or criminal activity, the courts should handle it as strictly a legal matter, which it would seem it is. Trotting all these people out to testify before CONGRESS is a joke. If the league can't police thier own and enforce policy, then it needs to re-think thier processes. I think it is a huge waste of taxpayer money and time, all just constructed to give the politicos a grandstand op, with no benefit whatsoever to the taxpaying public. 0 -

ROFLMAO [:D]0 -
SIMPLE....piddle farting around with this is easier than addressing REAL ISSUES...your govt at work 0 -
It's a congressional issue because of the anti-trust exemption granted to MLB. If they want to let go of their exemption, congress would leave them alone. But the owners like the monopoly the exemptin gives them. As far as Roger...IMHO, he used steroids. That taints all his accomplishments and records in my eyes. 0 -

Yeah and the Interstate commerce clause when abused by Congress gives the federal govenrment the right to regulate what you do in your house.
The reach of the federal government has gone too far.0 -
I really do not understand how this has become such a significant issue. I for one could care less if the ball players take drugs I don't go to ball game or support there product's the fact that the goverment has decided to use our national finances to investigate the use of steroids by over paid and over valued people is to me an outrage.
Are we not in a ression? don't we have better ways to spend the millions of dollars that this is costing.
Come on, lets get back to running the country, have a session to figure out ways to make this a better place to live, use the money to help the poor. the sick, and the aged. Do your jobs.0 -
This discussion is far too polital for me....[:D] 0 -
Comment from news analyst:
"Clemens was once the fiercest pitcher in Major League Baseball, now he is laying it all on his wife."
Yep... what a role model.[xx(]0 -
Ut oh CLemens lawyer is standing up and pissed . Here we go !! Jerry, Jerry !!!!![:D] 0 -
Wasn't Senator Waxman, chairman of this witch hunt, the biggest advocate against the impeachment of President Clinton. Didn't Senator Waxman stand before us and say it was a sham to investigate President CLinton.
Waxman is a joke.0 -
Waxman looks like PORKY PIG ![:D] 0 -
Are you know or have you ever taken performance enhancing drugs.
Senator Waxman is the new Eugene McCartny.
Shoot, fighting communism is a much noble cause that regulating MLB.
Hey Waxman, don't you know there is a war going on.0 -
they sure are doing a good job of screwing him. they'll probally charge him with pergury(sp) he should tell them to suck a rope 0 -
I understand that Clemens has to go before the Senate. If so then who pays to get him there, Clemens or the taxpayers? 0 -
Thanks for the "poof".....I like the word idiot better...!! 0 -
I have been asking all along why this is the business of my government? What a waste of taxpayer money. Baseball needs to clean up it's act but that is a private matter not government business. 0 -
The market assessment for today suggested a rebound in January retail sales after an atrocious December as the reason Stock Market gains were so good today. However, my take is that these Congressional hearings occupied the buffoons in Washington to the point that investors knew they didn't have time to screw anything up today! 0 -
You can make the case that congress has better things to do, and I would not disagree.
Bear in mind, these hearing were REQUESTED by Clements so that he could "clear his name."
I watched the highlights of the hearings today and Clements looked terrible. He looked like a lying weasel. He is up there lying through his teeth in an attempt to secure his place in the Hall of Fame.
Pete Rose tried that and it didn't work out too well for him.
I saw an interview with Judge Napolitano on Fox News, he said Clements put himself in legal jepoardy today. Napolitano says Clements may face a criminal indictment for lying. You can get five years of jail time for each count of lying to congress.
This case is so similar to the case of Bill Clinton. Clinton went before the feds, in Clinton's case it was a federal lawsuit, but, he was sworn to tell the truth, just like Clements. Clinton lied and the SHTF.
I detest someone who will look you in the eye and lie to you.0 -
This is part of a long tradition of American legislators bloviating for self-importance.
If I were a US legislator, I would be professionally embarrassed to be involved in this witch hunt (though that would actually require a sense of shame, something some of these legislators lack).
And yes, I think Clemens is guilty as charged. . .but that is something baseball needs to deal with, not the US Congress.
I don't know what this has to do with baseball anti-trust issues.
As to what Clemens should do, I believe contempt of Congress is probably a punishable offense. "Suck it hard", apart from being crude, would only make Clemens look bad, and might land him in hot water.
If Clemens didn't want to cooperate, he should have simply taken the fifth and said nothing. That might look bad, but not as bad as lying looks! If he does want to "play ball", he should simply answer the questions directly and truthfully.0 -
bottom line, someones lieing.[:I] 0 -
