Does your wife/significant other get mad

when you buy a new gun. I have been real good over the past decade YES I SAID DECADE!. I havent bought a weapon until last week for 10 friggin years and my wife acted like I had molested a child. It was not a money issue as we have over 20K in savings, it was not an expensive weapon as total cost was $317.oo including the state taxes. I love my wife with all my heart, but sometimes they can be unrealistic I think. I have wanted to purchase a 1911 to replace the one I sold 7 years ago like a moron but havent yet. Seems the more you show restraint on things like that, when you do purchase something, they have a demonic temper tantrum. I guess I should have told her first huh[;)]

    Elkoholic is always right on target. Dont tell em. rotate them between safe, gun cabinet, closet and keep em guessing

    10 years isnt restraint, its quitting. She thought you quit that awful habit of buying guns.

    The XD I bought recently was the first gun I've told her about in about 4 years. She likes guns but doesn't like the cost. I've got a P-220, Para 1911, Bersa, two Taurus's, and a RRA AR that she doesn't know about although sometimes I think she's on to me. Her parents are the same way. My FIL is always sneaking guns home and my MIL has told me she knows about it.

    Man I had to deal with it today. I bought my first pistol ever and my ol lady went ape doodoo!!!

    She was fine when i bought her a .243 though.

    I just laughed and told her that I would not buy any more toys for a while[}:)][:D]

    Well, she states it was the fact that I didn't tell her first, and that we should always discuss major purchases before aquiring. So yeah, that is true in any marriage and you should do that. The deal was that I had just found the gun broker site and was looking at all these nice guns for sale and there is a place right up the road that was doing an auction. They had a Ruger P85MKII for auction for 295.00 that had sat in a guys safety deposit box for years. never fired, in original box and Ruger wrap. I said what the hell on the opening day and bid the starting price of 295.00 and a week later, I won the auction. I didn't think in a million years I would win it as it was so cheap, but nobody else bid on the dang thing. So there I was guys, going how am I going to tell her this. I was at work at the time and guess who calls? My wife asking about an email we received regarding my winning a gun on the auction. Well...she was pissed because I didn't tell her which is justifyable, but dang!! A DECADE GUYS!! A DECADE SINCE I HAVE PURCHASED ONE! Anyway, all is good, she actually went to the range with me yesterday and helped me put 200 rounds downrange and ya know what, she likes it better than the 357 or 40 cal. But you know I'll never live this down. I'm sure a decade from now she'll bring it up somehow that I bought a gun without telling her. I really didn't think I would win the auction. But glad I did. Its a neat little gun even though I don't care for the 9mm as well as a 357, 40 or 45. But I'm glad I own it now.

    In 15yrs Ive never seen my wife mad, Ive seen her get aggitated a time or two. If we have a problem we sit down and discuss it, and In consult with her before I make any big decision.

    Oh prangle, I suppose I should just keep my wife out of all decision making and let the man make all decisions as all cave men should huh. I'm not whipped at all. I love her dearly and value her insight on almost everything. She has been instumental in keeping me out of trouble in the past and is a true soulmate. And yeah, even only at 68 inches and 130 pounds, she would make a good cop[:D]

    I screwed up by not telling her, but in our conversation resulting from this purchase her statement was "I don't care how you spend your money, but you should let me know when you want to make a big purchase"

    Does that sound like that the remmington 870 and a bolt action rifle is a go as long as I tell her first[}:)]

    When my wife starts in on me I just remind her how much money I have saved over the last 23 years since I quite smoking. She usually gets quiet and leaves me alone.

    I don't buy that many outright, usually sell a few that have sat for a while and buy something new, or new to me.

    I have came home with a few that she didn't see right away and when she did I just say, "I've had this one for a while" you just haven't seen it before.

    Yeah that's what my dad always did.
    My plan: pay cash so she doesn't notice. Save $20-40 every week or 2. Stash it in my desk at work. Buy gun.
    I've had my newest one for 2 weeks and she hasn't noticed yet[8D]

    It's also good to buy a box of ammo a week. Been doing that for a while now and it hasn't caused problems yet.

    My wife let me charge a Polish AK underfolder on her credit card yesterday and I gave her the money today and she paid it off. My wife rules.

    i cannot not tell my wife i have a new gun, we have a relationship built on trust, and i couldn't in good conscious break it, however i have stated here in the past many times

    when you buy a gun purchase a major appliance or it's equivalent +-, and no not a big screen tv for yourself ether, it works every time, i bought a wilson combat and a 300 dollar dishwasher, all was peaceful, i bought a g34 she got a new 10x12 oriental rug, i bought a Dillon 550, she got another rug, since then we each get a weekly allowance, i save mine she spends hers, i can now buy what ever i want and don't hear a word

    I buy 2-3 year and only when I save the extra $$$ or get my Christmas bonus. Don't buy them with credit cards. My wife is pretty understanding of my addiction. She does on occassion say that she thinks I give my guns more attention than her... I just tell her there's no chance of her rusting.

    My wife and I discuss any purchases over ten bucks. We're on a tight budget.

    I haven't bought a gun in over a year. But the good wife Plink actually told me that, when we pay off the next credit card, I can have a couple of hundred for a gun. I feel that, if I don't want an inexpensive or used gun, I can put that money back for "seed money" for my next gun.

    Yeah, I wish I had a safe full of Colt snake guns and evil black muthas, but since I'd rather my daughter have some kind of education, I'll keep shooting the ones I have and save for a new one.

    That would be terrible to have to put up with the b**ching that seems to go on. I have a separate account that is strictly for guns, ammo and generally just things for me. We pay the bills and I get any extra it's a great way to do business with the wife.

    Nope... as long as she's allowed to shoot it too. Won this one a few days ago. Can't wait to take it to the range with her!

    We have an understanding that when I buy a gun it will be here forever, provide enjoyment and still hold a value for resale if necessary. She also enjoys her day at a spa when I get a toy. She doesnt question my purchases but she knows about them.
