You don't have to ask permission to support an addiction. Just buy it.

I would get a divorce, tell her you can not be in such a negative marriage. Then see what she says's she still says no, call a good divorce attorney.

Don't argue with your wife about guns. You will lose.
Talk to your wife about "wanting" the gun. Not "needing" it.
Do you take her to the range?
Does she have a CC permit?
I may get thrown off the forum but there is not a gun out there worth your wife's trust. Blow it now and every thing is a conflict. Treat her with honor and respect and she might buy you a few guns before it is over. I do not think that you roll over and play dead. If you are going to make a stand be in it for the long haul.

You could just tell her you are going to buy it.

I usually tell my wife that I am going to buy a gun and listen to her raise hell then I go buy it.

Whatever happens she does have a right to know were the money is going especially if she works also.

You could also use her logic whenever she come home with a new purse or shoes or something else this has always made my wife wave the white flag in a week or two[;)]

Need is not the question. Want is the question.

I have never tried to convince wifey of need. All women can relate to want so use it.

    Never fails.

The great thing about buying a milsurp is that when your wife asks "Is that a new gun", you can truthfully answer "no".
    Milsurps are never "new".

Your wife said "Besides, you don't need another gun!"

Go thru your collection. Pick out two firearms you can live with out. Price them too high to sell. Preferably for a total price above the $1,000.00 the M1A will cost.[;)] Go to wife and say your right. I am going to sell TWO fire arms for more than the $1,000 the M1A cost.[:D] So I will have one less firearm and extra money after the two sell. List the firearms. Go buy the M1A. Later when the two firearms don't sell and the wife brings up the subject start a thread titled something like "Are Firearms sales slow lately?" Get friends to post responses like "yes but it looks like they are picking up". Then have someone post the picture of the obese woman with the champagne bottle in the belly button with their response. When wife asks about the lack of sales show her the thread. That should end future questions.[8D]

This also partially explains other subject threads like

1.Why is the seller trying to sell this firearm for so much?

2.Why did the seller say the item is no longer in stock

    3. My wife left me.

Tell her it's an investment and that she can sell it for 3x the amount when you die [:D]

Which, if were my wife, would be about a week after I bought it.

Seriously, man. This oppportunity may have slipped by you.

But you asked for advice so here's mine...

1st, start going shopping with her. Tell her what you actually think of those "Cute lil' slingbacks that are ON SALE!" Tell her that every pair of pants she tries on makes her look a little skinnier than you'd like, but she can probably pull it off. Then tell her that the new wardrobe is nothing without a new hair style.

2nd (And I've found out that, for some inexplicable reason, that this is very immportant) Stop floating air-biscuits at the dinner table. If one does happen to squeak out, don't treat it like you just carved The Pieta out of hickory with a pocketknife. I know we're proud of 'em, but women just don't understand the artistic qualities of the fart.

3rd Pick a spring morning that's perfect for a day at the range, then instead of going to the range, suggest repainting the bedroom. This has the added benefit of getting you inside Home Depot for a few hours.

4th The next time she feels like getting frisky, just tell her that as much as you love making love to her, tonight, you'd just like to cuddle.

If you've managed to do all of these things with a smile, you will have learned the most invaluable tool in getting gun permission from She Who Must Be Obeyed: Patience. Patience, my friend is what we on limited budgets must have to keep from going bat-crap crazy.

    Just One Man's Opinion.

Thanks. That pulled a belly-laugh from me.

But nobody has mentioned this: you have SIX guns, and you've been told that you don't need another? Huh?

    Let's think about six:

    1 small caliber repeating pistol
    1 medium caliber revolver
1 large caliber handgun: revolver or repeater, as desired.
1 shotgun (and that's being very conservative)
1 small caliber repeating plinking rifle
    1 small caliber bench rifle
1 medium or large caliber hunting rifle, depending on your needs.

Oops, that's seven. So how is six enough? I consider myself to be gun-poor and I have 12.

Anyway, hearing this just makes me glad that for the most part, the only time my finances interact with my girlfriend's finances is when I'm subsidizing her. So I can pretty much buy whatever I choose to afford. And although she doesn't like guns at all, she also does not run interference when I'm buying, cleaning, shooting, or otherwise enjoing them. We have an unspoken agreement: I don't try to make her enjoy them, and she encourages me to enjoy them. It works for me. It seems to work for her. It might not be so simple for people who have totally merged their finances (which I wanted to do, but which my girlfriend opted not to do).

Going on the angle of the investment, let you wife know what happened to me. I have had two M1A's, one was a basic model that I bought for $300 and the other was a National Match that I bought for $700 (early 1990's). I sold the standard for $500, now worth $1000. The National match was sold for $1200, now worth $2500. With the political situation we now have you will be able to turn this gun for a great profit in under 1 year.

    Or so you tell her:)

[8D] Except she KNOWS I wouldn't sell it as an investment.[;)]

Thats why I said SHE CAN SELL it when YOUR DEAD.... Unless she's about to kill you then it could be the last straw [:o)]

So, I guess she's not THAT stupid of a wife (for now). She actually said last night "I guess you could pay for it on lay-a-way and make payments."

I said, "Dude, that's what I've been saying from the beginning!" A down payment and $50/month, plus family chipping in (in lieu of Christmas and birthday presents in December) and it's done!

    So, time will tell.[;)]

I think I should add, to be totally fair to her, that she next to never...ever...buys herself anything. She is not a clothes or shoes kind of girl. She's more of a hunting, fishing and camping person. Remember, we also only have boys and big dogs. No girlly stuff in this house. Anyway, just wanted to let you know how lucky I actually am.

She wrote that, not me. ^^^^^^

And yes, it's true. But my not-so-stupid wife wrote that, not me.[8D]

Explain to her like the rifles and guns are like golf clubs. You don't need all of them clubs but they have their uses eventually[:D]. I have no idea about golf clubs nor do I want to[:D].

Also all you need to do is to sneak the M1A while the misses is out of the house[:D]. Distract her with a manicure/make over coupon[:D].

Ok, guys. This is The Mrs. I normally would let my man buy whatever he wants. However, it is not "he" that wants the new truck...its me. It is not "he" that wants to have sex all the time...its me. It is never me that wants to buy "slingbacks"...not him either. I want a riding lawn mower (since I do all the yard work), but I am willing to wait. So it is not "he" that can't ever go to HomeDepot, its me. I could go everyday. And don't worry about him, I am sure he will get his "little toy" from the gun fairy somehow, she just has to run the numbers. He always gets what he wants...always.

That is absolutely hilarious!...callktulu gets busted on-line by Mama! Mama got the nose ring on him and twisted it![:D][:D] Mrs. calktulu...you're going to enjoy shooting that M1A. I would also suggest to mister that he 'edit' the title of this thread.

I might have said something like...

"I might have too many guns but lately I've been thinking I have too many wives.

Oh, maybe I SHOULD cut back a little. Let's see I have one wife, but if I had no wife, I could still have a blast with a new gun....and wife is going to be mad at me for something I did, sooner or later anyway..."

(Warning-Try at you own risk!)(But let me know how it goes...)

Actually, the "Stupid Wife" thing is an inside joke between the two of us, as we often tease each other every time we do something bone-headed. She was meant to see this thread.[;)]

And it seems to be working....

Hmmm...if I can't get her to agree to the M1A, maybe I can convince her I need this one instead:

All the time. Chief, dude, bud, baby, honey, mama, big jerk, and stupid dummy are the most common terms of endearment that I use for my wife.

    Not necessarily in that order.

House money - Gun money. Never shall the two be used for the other purpose. Where does gun money come from - MY OVERTIME (I get 1/3 of all overtime wages) and swapping/trading. I have used MY firearm funds for household needs very rarely. I have purchased presents for her with my firearm funds - but that is my choice. She has custom set diamond ring and necklace from those funds that could have purchased 4 M1As. I either have enough or not - I know where I stand!!
