STUPID WIFE!!!
[:(!][:(!][:(!]
So, I found a guy who wants to sell me one of his Springfield M1A's (my dream rifle) for a $1,000 (including 4 magazines). He'll even do payment plan, and there's no tax (or government records!!) since it's a private sale.
And what does the wife say? "We have other things we have to spend money on! We need a new car (this is true), things for the yard (also true), home repairs (yeah, that too)...." Etc, etc....
And then she puts a knife in my heart: "Besides, you don't need another gun!"
Ow. That really hurts.[:(][:(]
Despite her being right about all the other stuff (dead wrong about the "need" of another gun), how do y'all convince your Mrs.? And advice would be greatly appreciated.

Actually, the investment angle is legitimate.
Recall the ban to her...and point out that that rifle will be worth a couple thousand bucks within a year.
This is dicey, tho...in the divorce procedings, your words WILL be held against you.
Frankly... when I ran across a good buy...I bought it.
No doubt that is why I am single today...but a man HAS to have priorities.0 -

that is a brilliant idea, i shall remember[;)][8D]0 -
Going on the angle of the investment, let you wife know what happened to me. I have had two M1A's, one was a basic model that I bought for $300 and the other was a National Match that I bought for $700 (early 1990's). I sold the standard for $500, now worth $1000. The National match was sold for $1200, now worth $2500. With the political situation we now have you will be able to turn this gun for a great profit in under 1 year.
Or so you tell her:)0 -

it is easier to get forgiveness than permission 0 -
If i wanted the M1A i'd buy it. she may get mad but she'll either get over it or she won't. either way you'll have the Rifle. and Yes my wife stays mad at me 85% of the time and doesn't speak to me i count that as a VACATION from her bitching. 0 -

Tell her it's an investment and that she can sell it for 3x the amount when you die [:D]
Which, if were my wife, would be about a week after I bought it.
Seriously, man. This oppportunity may have slipped by you.
But you asked for advice so here's mine...
1st, start going shopping with her. Tell her what you actually think of those "Cute lil' slingbacks that are ON SALE!" Tell her that every pair of pants she tries on makes her look a little skinnier than you'd like, but she can probably pull it off. Then tell her that the new wardrobe is nothing without a new hair style.
2nd (And I've found out that, for some inexplicable reason, that this is very immportant) Stop floating air-biscuits at the dinner table. If one does happen to squeak out, don't treat it like you just carved The Pieta out of hickory with a pocketknife. I know we're proud of 'em, but women just don't understand the artistic qualities of the fart.
3rd Pick a spring morning that's perfect for a day at the range, then instead of going to the range, suggest repainting the bedroom. This has the added benefit of getting you inside Home Depot for a few hours.
4th The next time she feels like getting frisky, just tell her that as much as you love making love to her, tonight, you'd just like to cuddle.
If you've managed to do all of these things with a smile, you will have learned the most invaluable tool in getting gun permission from She Who Must Be Obeyed: Patience. Patience, my friend is what we on limited budgets must have to keep from going bat-crap crazy.

We already go shopping, paint the bedrooms, cuddle, and avoid each others' passed gas. We have a very good marriage.0 -

Nah. I'm in the same boat. But my wife has done some downright magical things with our skimpy budget, so when she says we can't afford a non-essential like a Garand (or in my case, a Bushmaster) I sigh and hang in there. Sooner or later we'll have enough paid down that I can trot out and buy me a new gun. In the meantime, I just find one that I haven't shot in a few months and have fun with it.
I'm so happily whipped that I can wait.0 -
Ok, guys. This is The Mrs. I normally would let my man buy whatever he wants. However, it is not "he" that wants the new truck...its me. It is not "he" that wants to have sex all the time...its me. It is never me that wants to buy "slingbacks"...not him either. I want a riding lawn mower (since I do all the yard work), but I am willing to wait. So it is not "he" that can't ever go to HomeDepot, its me. I could go everyday. And don't worry about him, I am sure he will get his "little toy" from the gun fairy somehow, she just has to run the numbers. He always gets what he wants...always. 0 -
only advice that i would give is to say it will double in value in a couple of years dear...then we will be able to afford x,y,z.[:)]you never know, it might just work. 0 -

Another reason I love Sandy so much. Me buying guns whenever I want them is fine with her, as long as I let her shoot them.
Life is good![;)]0 -

Buy it. Shoot it for a week or two. Sell it on GunBroker for a profit. Everyone is happy. 0 -

Dont think for a minute that MOST wives dont know what you did....We will let you get away with it once or twice, and then thats it....
Remember...two can play the game...
thats funny right there
promise to sell a few, put them up for auction with a higher than normal reserve, if they do sell you made a profit, if they don't re-list them a few times till the m1 is paid for
as long as it is not a norinco0 -

Use the money you have hidden in your "rat hole". If you don't have one start one. $10 here $20 there, in couple hundred years you'll have enough to buy the M1A.

Nice to hear from you. I think a compromise is in order here. You get the riding lawn mower, he gets the M1A. Keep driving the old truck until the wheels fall off. Sex? Make him do it whenever you want to. Don't let him use a headache as an excuse. It's only fair.

The Mrs. just re-read the thread and said you don't know her very well. She's Puerto Rican....forgiveness is something she delegates to our Lord and Savior. Everything else is held as a life-long grudge![:D]
Which is always why I ask permission![:p]0 -
You found a private seller @ the right price, no tax, no paperwork, PLUS he will
TAKE PAYMENTS
and you haven't bought it yet???
To the Mrs.
You don't run across this kind of deal everyday.
Matter of fact, don't think I ever have.
From what you wrote,
if you were not married to him, and I wasn't already married.............[}:)][:p][:o)][;)][:D]0 -
Ummmmm please send me phone number of the guy with the rifle... I'll take care of it for you from there. [}:)][;)]

Tell her that when she quits buying shoes or a new outfit for an occasion when she already has several, that you will quit buying your guns..If she can buy a new outfit for every different occasion (since women can't be seen wearing the same thing twice!!!!) Why can't you buy a different gun for every season including target season??? 0 -
my X told me i don't need another gun ones, i agreed and said that she's fat and really don't need to eat for a month, got the gun and now i don't have to ask her when i want another gun cause we got divorced. drastic but worked for me 0 -
