A little hipocracy?
Many members of this forum have expressed their intention to vote for the better of the two presidential candidates. They figure that it is better to support the best candidate who has an actual shot of winning. This makes sense to me. I would love to be able to cast my vote for a candidate that I truly believed in but that doesn't seem likely given they current state of our political system. Sadly, voting for a third party candidate is equivelant to not voting at all.
But this morning I had this thought. Why do so many members refuse to support the NRA because it isn't perfect? Sure there are better gun rights organizations but not with the size and lobbying power of teh NRA. At least the NRA is standing against the Brady's and their ilk. Isn't it our best chance for progress in the gun rights movement?
I might be wrong. They people who refuse to support the NRA might also be the people who will vote for whoever they think is best, regardless of their chance of winning, but I don't think so. In that case I applaude them for at least sticking to a logically defensible position even if I happen to disagree.

Actually...you Republicans ought to be embarrassed to call your leading candidates 'Republicans'...but that is just a sign of how far the mighty Republican Party has fallen.

tysonagreen - Excellent post. Few of the important decisions we make are about absolutes; most are less than ideal, and many involve some form of compromise.
Want to vote for a candidate who has no chance of winning? Your right - but if you vote for your lesser choice, your vote has meaning.
Don't like the NRA? Fine; support a person or organization which espouses your position exactly - even if they are ineffective.
We most often make the best deal we can, given the circumstances, alternatives, etc.0 -

I am and was serious when I said I was going to vote Hillary. I am tired of the same ol' same ol'. I want a REAL choice to vote for, that seems what the party HACKS won't let happen. If the sheep won't stand for our sacred documents, then let them burn. I am ready for what is coming friend.
Those that will think this is a hissy fit by some crazy R.P. supporter, think again. We have not had a REAL follower of the constitution in the oval office in my lifetime. I am sick and tired of paying for socialism. I am sick and tired of my freedoms going out the window. I am sick and tired of all the BS coming from D.C.
The time has come for people to decide if they want freedom, or some ISM (communism, socialism, marxism, ect.) If we are going to exept the lesser of two evils (which IS still evil), then lets run this train downhill FULL steam ahead. My problem is...were Hillary to get elected, every so-called 'conservative I-Love-American'..that voted for Mcgilihuck..will fight her every step of the way.
She may well get nothing at all done except soften up the masses for the Next round of republican.
Were a Republican to get in, they can accelerate the process handily...since all those 'conservatives' see nothing wrong with 'their man' taking away freedom.

Here are my thoughts though. IF a democrat get elected, we all know JUST how bad the taxes will go up, since we have to pay for MORE social programs. Also, we know then amnesty will get voted in. No more sitting on the fence with the illegals, now they we ALL be legal. Our economy WILL collapse. Our jobs WILL evaporate. The things that are happening SLOWLY, will happen faster.
See, I just don't see people caring much anymore, despite what turd resides in the "ofal office" . Sure, people will grumble, but none the less, it will be done. The only way people MIGHT care, is when we hit ROCK BOTTOM. It is MY belif that only the dems will get us there faster, no more horsing around about it.0 -

Since the entire country is nothing more than a bunch of mindless robots, whipped up into a fury over a new round of lying candidates, we cannot change.
The electoral college essentially negates your single vote anyway. I will not vote for anyone other than Huckabee or Ron Paul.
People complain that Ron Paul isn't a leader or this or that and "he doesn't have a chance" because the media has snuffed him out.
Well, if every single American citizen voting, were passionate about their country and could forget about the BS, and NOT reward EITHER party for the ABSOLUTE LOSERS they have presented us with... and write in for Ron Paul...we quite possibly could have a change of direction.
I might even sign up for SS duties at that point to protect the guy because of how valuable he would be and the potential he could bring. What is wrong with Ron Paul? Nothing. What is wrong then? Nobody pays attention and we have a country full of complete morons.
I will write in for Ron Paul. Whoever actually wins out of the mess WON'T MAKE A DAMN BIT OF DIFFERENCE. After the fallout, I can say I voted for Ron Paul because he was clearly the only answer. I honestly don't care who wins.
We try to stave off anti-gun candidates every 4 years. They just keep coming back. Only this time it's far worse. The issue's not going away. Vote your heart and let history play out. Thinking you're doing the country a favor for voting Romney because he's "not as bad" only delays the inevitable.
What do we expect to 'magically' happen between these four years and the next election? Pro-gun candidates for boths sides if we can just hold out another four years?? Let's be serious.0 -

I'm an NRA fan, and I'm ready to vote third party or mebbe even write-in.
I used to be in the "You're not just wasting your vote, you're undermining the less despicable guy" camp, but to hell with it. Demicans, Republicrats, the oligarchy; they won't change until they know it will cost 'em votes.0 -
It is indeed gratifying to witness the responses I am seeing..both here in the forum, and out in the world.
More people all the time are rejecting `conventional wisdom'..and embracing truth.
Party hacks are being viewed for what they are..fatladies with knee-pads.
We will never be numerous, we that view the `leaders' with suspicion and critical judgment ..but there will be enough.

there's no other way! how can voting for a third party candidate, be like not voting at all??? You vote for who you believe would be the best for the job, not for who you think will win?!?!?!

And as for the NRA... I just don't feel the need to give them my money. I'd rather buy more guns! [;)]

I posed this very question to myself some years back...
I do not and cannot support the NRA. Their stand is that the political process requires "give and take". My position is that rights ARE NOT negotiable under any circumstances. Bargaining merely takes rights away in small chunks versus large ones. This I cannot condone.
Voting? I will not vote for any candidate I deem unworthy of the position sought. I will not vote for the lesser of the evils. Evil is evil.
And right now? I see no man or woman whom I'd be proud to call my president. Better we should elect Reagan, Truman, Teddy Roosevelt, or perhaps Andy Jackson. All dead, but much better men dead than those candidates alive today. (In my opinion anyway.)0
