Sold a friend a snubby for his wife.... Bad!

I have had three S&W M36 snubbys in .38 special. I sold one of them to a fried of mine late last week for his wife. There have been some criminal actions in his neighborhood lately, and he wanted her to have it for protection.

Now, I have known this man for over 30 years. He and I have hunted together and shot together, and he is even a Texas CHL holder. He is safe and very responsible with firearms.

My mistake was, I ASSUMED like most gun folks, he had taught his wife how to handle firearms and how to shoot, early on in their relationship. I was dead wrong!

Called me earlier today to let me know she was handling the gun, trying to get the feel of it, and pointed it at a picture on the wall, then pulled the trigger.

That's right! BANG! Shot a hole in the wall!

I offered him his money back and offered to bring it to him right away. He wants to try to teach her how to handle the gun.

This worries me.

    It is really not your fault, same thing could have happend had she herself gone and bought a gun at the store or from someone else.. It is her husbands responsibilty to see that she handles the firearms safely in his house..


    My biggest mistake was making the assumption that as a gun owner who kept guns in his house, he would have trained anyone living in his home in gun safety. That is just part of responsible gun ownership to me.

    Don't sell anymore guns to him....

    BTW - it was his own G'dang fault. It was unloaded, and was his stupidity to load it and present it to his wife like that.



    Or maybe she is implying... she won't have guns in the house.

    Well, The problem isn't yours to worry about, Its his!.... Its his wife, So its his responsibilty to teach her gun safety.

    I am just glad that only the picture took a hit. It could of ended MUCH worse[V]

    I hope she atleast learned a lesson from this.

    You are not responsible for other people's stupidity.

    If you had sold the guy a car (in good condition) and he wrecked it on the way home, Would you be responsible?

    Why not?

    He had a ND. Do they disqualify LEO's who have NDs?

    They get remedial training.
