35 years as a professional engineer, engineering manager, construction manager and EPC project director. Mostly on the industrial side of things but early in my career I designed a few commercial high rise buildings in seismic zones. 0 -

While I've had several positions, since graduating HS is 1976 all but a couple years have been in retail automotive dealership operations ...
I started out in detail (cleaning cars for about a year while attending collage), in the Parts Department for about 10 years; started stocking shelves and taking night classes but worked my way up to up to the Parts manager ... New Car tech, installing everything from off road bumpers and roll-bars to A/C systems(in Datsun cars & trucks in the late 70's & 80's). I worked in the business office reconciling accounts and re-possessing cars and going to nite school. I was a Service Writer for about 10 years and call center manager for 2-3, lastly and most enjoyably the Internet, website and IT "person" for the last 19 years.
Most area's I was in 8-10 years but I only spent 2 years in actual vehicle sales, tried it twice both times about a year ... looking back they were the most miserable, but back then (both times) it was very cut throat between salesmen stealing other salesmens customers if not their commissions ... and of course sales managers had their favorites and would feed them.0 -
Glass furnace operation and maintenance. 11 years making beer bottles and 5 years making silicate for a chemical company. Pretty much same furnace style. before that, 9 years for Archer Daniels Midland. 0 -
I spent the first third of my adult life blowing stuff up (military) and the last two-thirds fixing stuff other people screwed up. 0 -
Had so many jobs over the years. But my longest was my own company of Hauling an Removal. Did that at the same time as working full time. 0 -

Probably most boring job of any GB member. Staff accountant for local CPA firm from 1985 thru 1990 and then went out on my own at age 27. Took the CPA exam in 1991 and passed. Just a one man office with my secretary. I always thought one of my two sons would come in, take over and let me ride off in the sunset. But, one is not interested in accounting and the other is in corporate accounting (Six Flags Amusement Park Corporate Office in Dallas) and has no desire for public accounting. I can't say that I blame him a bit. Been a good ride, but think I am about ready to rope a different horse. With all of the federal and state tax regulations along with licensing requirements, it is not as much fun as it used to be. Plus I think I am just plain getting older and grouchy. I do not have the patience with people that I used to. 0 -
Twenty Five years fixing x-ray equipment, medical equipment and installing the same. I loved carrying a tool box into a hospital and making equipment function the best it could to care for patients in need. I had a special focus on mammography remembering when in 1977 a lovely lady died at Highland Park Hospital from the horrid disease. 0 -
My profession has been the same since college......Manufacturing Engineer, Manufacturing Manager overseeing welding, machining, assembly, etc of marine engines & stern drives, transmission/steering/fuel injectors for the automotive industry, building exercise equipment, aerospace components, school buses, marine storage equipment (boat lifts), and pipeline construction equipment. 0 -
Trucks, it?s been about trucks since I was a teen. Started out as a truck mechanic, got my license and drove trucks. Quit trucking and back to wrenching.
It?s had it?s ups and downs, good times and bad. I?ve trucked in the Middle East (Iraq), worked as a mechanic for the military then got a position as an FSR/CSR for one of the manufacturers of MRAP vehicles, contracted to the USMC.
My entire life has either been wrenching or driving. I?ve seen all of the USA, traveled Europe and the Middle East, all because of trucks. I?m going to die either in or under a truck.
Have several hobbies and a few other skills, have a ton of leadership/supervisory training paid for by the US Gov but that training is useless, besides I kinda like being the goofy oddball with no responsibilities because being in charge of people is not what it?s cracked up to be.0 -
I.T. since '96. After I blew out my back and after multiple surgeries with only slight improvement, I came to the realization that I couldn't do the manual labor jobs and my wife asked me what I liked to do. Since there wasn't much demand for a decrepit white guy with an average willy to be in porn, that was the next thing I thought of since I had been into computers since the Vic 20 and Commodore 64 and Apple II era, it seemed like it would be light enough duty for me to do. Now I am a sys admin (one of 3 in a 1600+ user company). 0 -
Federal employee for 30 years at various positions from substance abuse counselor (degree in psychology) to inventory management specialist of a chemical weapons depot all around the third rock we call home. 0 -

40 years operating engineers local 3240 -
Spent 36 years and over $2 Billion of taxpayer money for the US Army as a Contract Specialist. Mostly for FMTVs some for R&D on the JLTV and some Bridges. Retired 03 Jan 2013. 0
