Funny, I've been a registered nurse for over 25 years. I still do not think of myself as a nurse, I think of myself as a builder. Being a nurse is something I do to make money, I'm good at it, I deal with people well and it would be a waste of training and knowledge not to do it, but it's t not the way I think of myself. Longest was Director of Engineering for a local Hospital, twenty years. Fancy way to say I was the head toilet plunger and light bulb changer 0 -
Electrical instrument technician at a local chemical plant. Ten years or so. Next to retirement, best job I ever had. 0 -
Last 33 years I worked, industrial electrician at Cooper Tire plant. Retired in 2012, so far THIS is the best job I've ever had!!! 0 -

I worked for 3 companies from 1972 to 2014.
I was a draftsman for the largest A/C manufacture in the world back between 1972 to 1974. That's me in the front of the photo.
I served many rolls while working for the largest power company in the US between 1974 to 1997. Started off as a draftsman and designer.
Then I worked as a dam inspector. That me in the photo on the right on an inspection trip to Norris Dam in East Tennessee back in 1975.
Then I worked as a field engineer on some coal fired steam plants.
Then I worked as a construction superintendent at Widows Creek Steam Plant back in the 90s.
Then the last company I worked for I was a construction inspector, project engineer and finally a project manager building new schools in the Atlanta area and prisons and FBI headquarters in Mississippi until 2014.0 -

Baltimore City, Patrol Officer, TAC Team, rank change (Sergeant), Ops Units, UC, back to the Teams (finally) Team Leader. Survived some, ahem, ?interesting/great times? (A few of you know). Left the agency after many years, now head of Court Security for our county. 0 -

Forgot to add that during my stay in the insane asylum I also helped run a family farm , raised broiler / fryer chickens commercially , had a capacity of 150 ,000 birds a year for 30 years and in my spare time ran a sideline business doing rental property repair and also painted and hung hi end custom wallpaper . Finally slowed down some in the past two years and just do some part time gun sales in a local gun store 0 -

10 years in the US Navy, I was a mechanic and a survival instructor.
Now 12 years in Aerospace/Defense as an engineer mostly in leadership roles.

I was a construction contractor for 25 years. Did lots of tile work, hardwood floors, finish carpentry, etc. A couple years ago I woke up one morning and realized it just wasn't fun anymore. Before the day was out I'd been offered a job as the estimator for a local flooring store. I've been there for just over 2 years now. 0 -

I've been in engineering for 43 years... 32 as a project manager... and yet, I totally relate to the toilet plunger/light bulb changer gig. Yep... I'd say I'm a glorified paper pusher with skills.
Maybe, my new found PE registration might change that.0 -
Been a Mercedes Benz technician at an independent shop for almost twenty years. Owner retired last March and I bought the business from him. I also have several rental properties and a "hobby" farm to blow all my money on. 0 -

Smitty500mag, my hat's off to you sir, 'cause I know where and what you've done, since your first and last pics could have easily been of me... I started out on the board and ended up in the office just as you with everything in between. And I'm desperately trying to get out of the PM role and into a more creative engineering role as a PE. Wish me luck!0
