Looking at the news the NYPD is taking a beating. People are throwing trash at them piling crap on their cars when the are away and there is a violent protest against having more police in the subway.

Nearly a thousand protesters took to the streets of Brooklyn to demonstrate against the NYPD after a spate of violent arrests on the subway and over its plans to put more officers on the beat to catch anyone who skips paying the fare.

The protesters started gathering in Downtown Brooklyn near Barclays Center at about 7pm Friday, with their signs reflecting the dual nature of the march.

While flashier banners bore slogans such as 'Don't let these pigs touch us,' 'F**k the police,' 'Punch that cop' and 'NYPD out of MTA,' other signs read 'Free transit,' 'Poverty is not a crime' and 'Our subways need more $ for elevators, not for cops.'

Their grievances stem from two issues. One, alleged police brutality against New Yorkers including a group of teenagers who officers were seen fighting with in a recent viral video.

The other issue is that police have vowed to create 500 additional jobs specifically for officers to monitor the subway network and arrest anyone who jumps the barriers rather than pay the $2.75 fee.

Over the last month. several videos have emerged of NYPD cops violently arresting seemingly nonviolent subway riders.

One, which circulated last week, showed them pounding on the windows of a subway car, waiting for the doors to open, before rushing on board, tackling the man to the ground. It is unclear why he is wanted. He had his hands in the air for several minutes before they arrested him and bystanders say the officers drew their guns.

Video posted to Facebook on Halloween shows a New York Police Department vehicle that was covered with trash while passersby gleefully taunt the officers who were cleaning it up by saying ?trick or treat, m***** f*****s!?

The amateur video was filmed on cell phone by an individual who passed by the vehicle that was parked on the corner of East 95th Street and Clarkson Avenue in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn.

In the video, a number of residents and passersby are heard laughing and mocking the two uniformed officers who are removing the trash from their vehicle.

?This is what happens in the hood. Police get trash,? says the man filming the video.

?Trick or treat!?

    Granted New Orleans was a crap hole before, during and after Katrina. If the entire Dept. ran away then where did they loot? Was there a problem with some of the force, yes. All of the force, no. A lot of this including the 2A trampling was the responsibility of the totally inept elected officials.

    Have you personally been a victim of the extortion and intimidation that you accuse all police officers of performing? Or are you getting all of your facts from that fountain of accuracy - the internet? Bonjour. Bob

    And who is it that carries out the edicts of those inept public officials? All in the name of "just doing my job". I don't now what state you are in or what your redline is but are you willing to enforce red flag laws? Currently, 17 states have it so close to 40% of the PD's in this country are willing to unconstitutionally enforce these laws. Far cry from the vast minority of police that are "good cops". Or do you have an excuse for this too?

    And what would you have them do? Do you want all of the good hard working cops to quit, leaving the few that you deem guilty of intimidation? Our uninformed liberal population put the politicians (Governors, Mayors, Police commissioners, etc...) in their jobs. The ballot box is our only viable solution.

    Not sure how we got to red flag laws from the police being a revenue generator for the elite. Why not comment on what I said about traffic violations? Perhaps you want the law to be only reactive instead of proactive by arresting a drunk driver before he kills someone. I still get the impression that you have a phobia about law enforcement, perhaps from an incident in your past. If so - get over it. Life is to short to carry that big a chip on your shoulder. Bob

    I respect and support the police & law enforcement.

    What a beating of a career it is & you don?t need to look any further than right here for baseless criticism.

    When I cross paths with a police officer at a restaurant or sporting event or wherever. I take the time to say thank you. To tell them they are appreciated and they make families like mine able to have a great quality of life.

    If I was going to make a generalization about police I would say it is sad most aren?t given the resources they need- and that is on the community they serve, not the individual officer.

    So - Thank you past and present law enforcement. You do a job I would never do, rain or shine. Day or night, often dealing with the worst of the worst and at times when people are having the hardest times of their lives.

    If you aren?t the good guys I cannot fathom who is.

    Anyone ever notice the critics don?t get off their ass and go sign up to right the perceived injustices they complain about?

    Revenue generators are mostly traffic violations. I for one want them to stop every drunk driver, idiot tailgater, jerk who thinks it is OK to drive 90mph, text while driving idiot and careless driving dip$hit out there. Perhaps we should raise the cost of the fines. By pulling over that drunk maybe we prevent there being a victim. Or should we wait until he kills someone? If you don't want to contribute to the revenue stream then either don't drive or do it responsibly.
    I am confident that if he gets T boned by someone blowing a stop sign, or speeding he'd be pissed if they were not issued a revenue generating ticket for their violation.
