This is nothing more than pure un-adulterated vote buying. If it happens I'm thinkin' I should take 'em to court to have the $20,000 plus in student loans that I worked hard and paid off refunded to me. What do you think my odds are for getting any of my money back? About zilch over snake crap?

I have a 4 year college degree, in History and English Literature.
My degree is useless in the job market, unless you want to be a school teacher, but I wouldn't trade my college experience for anything. And that is the point. I had a 3.5 gpa but I did a lot of partying. Spent many hours at parties with all those coeds, drinking wine and imbibing in other substances. What a wild time it was great! I lettered in soccer for 4 years, I was the school photographer, I made A's in most classes, but, I did some serious partying.
I paid my own way through college. So now, we have these guys, as you said with a worthless degree in underwater basket weaving, who partied even more than I did, and now college is free for them? That is insane. And also unfair, because, that debt doesn't just disappear, it will be paid by taxpayers like you and me. College loan forgiveness, more socialist bs.
And all the Dems talking about making 4 year college free. You will have thousands, millions of 19 year old kids who don't give a damn about a degree, they just want to hang around a college for 4 years and see how many substances they can imbibe, and how many coeds they can befriend, who cares about a degree. And a million of these deadbeats will be in school making Ds and Fs, but the schools won't kick them out, because the schools will be making millions of free federal dollars off of these deadbeat students.

I firmly agree that the kids who got the money need to have a hand in paying it back.
On the other hand the clowns who loaned 18 year old kids 100K with no co-signor and no collateral after making sure the laws were changed to prevent them from filing bankruptcy and had no controls on how the money was spent deserve any haircut they get and while that may well be tax payers who take the hit for an irresponsible government it is what it is.0 -
I did 5 years in the Army. (Putting aside $$ into my "College fund," the whole time I was in.)
When I got out, and enrolled in College, I was told, "Sorry Mr. K. We have no record of any College fund, in your name." The fact that I had all of MY Paperwork, apparently made no difference. It took years, a Congressman and our State Representative getting involved in order to "find" and release my funds.
In the mean time, I had to take out several "Student loans," out in order to pay my tuition.
The GI Bill, ended just before I went in. We had put a $ in, we will match it with 2. Right after I got out, it was you put a $ in, we will match it with 5. (Screwed coming and going.)
I still payed that BS, back.
I have ZERO sympathy for those unwilling to pay back their College debts.0 -

I paid my student loans off just like any other loan. Higher education is not a RIGHT ~ it's a CHOICE!!
Should the idiots ever get student loan forgiveness passed, there will be a huge class action lawsuit by those who worked and paid back their student loans.0 -

Keep in mind most colleges, universities, & teachers unions are all manifested in the DEMOCRAT party. It should come as no surprise the aforementioned groups want debt forgiveness and free tuition, after all the money is going in their pocket.
DEMOCRATs are serious about debt forgiveness and free college. Results will have a synergistic effect because it will escalate party indoctrination thus spread their socialist doctrine to prospective students.

Well, Austin, if you can afford 6 degrees then it would appear that you are one of the rich and entitled I keep hearing so much about. Maybe you just need to pony up for a few dozen more degrees and then you'll feel somewhat assuaged of the guilt you feel for being born white and privileged. :roll:

I like to listen to financial advisor Dave Ramsey. Dave dislikes the student loan program. About a year ago a guy called Dave, he has a bachelor's degree in Anthropology, ran up $43K in student debt, and can't get a job. He is working at Burger King.
And Dave said, "You say you were a good student with a 3.9 gpa? You scored high on all the tests."
And the guy said, "Yes I have a high IQ."
And Dave said, "Well if you are so smart, why didn't you do a little research when you were 18 years old, and why didn't you learn that you CANNOT GET A JOB with a 4 year degree in Anthropology. Why didn't you learn that you have to get a Phd to get a job in that field." Dave is fresh out of sympathy for people who get stupid with the student loan program.
If you want to get serious with the hard science classes, and get a RN degree, then running up $50K in student loans is a good idea. Because upon graduation you will be making $60K. I have a buddy who is an RN and he takes home $1750 a week. He works in a cardiac cath lab.
But, running up $50K for a degree in History, or Anthropology, STUPID. I hope they never forgive these loans. And they need to rework the student loan program to make it more difficult to get these loans. It is absurd that an 18 year old kid can sign up for this kind of debt, because 18 year old kids are famous for doing stupid stuff.0 -

I am totally for Vocational Schools with the hands job performance. Books will get you in the right mindset..but Seen tons of folks that know the answer can not apply that answer with their hands to show how to do anything. I received a bachelors degree from SC in Machine Shop when we first came to SC. Could have taught HS Machine Shop, Vocational or College. No students wanting to learn the trade. I've never went to any college , university to take any sort of any classes. Tested out to get that degree and passed with flying colors. In fact it was so frigging easy I helped some of the other folks figure out their testing. Instructor had no problem with that. 0 -
I'm on both sides of this, when i got out of school and got married, my bride had 13,000 in school loans (nearly a years wage in 1980). we struggled and paid them off. she divorced me when they were paid off(grr) but one of our sons went and got a PHD, to the tune of nearly 250,000 in loans. he won't have that paid off for 20 years. should the american taxpayer have to pay for his education? he has huge earning potential, but 20 years?
IN the 70's when i was in school roughly 25% of kids went to post high school education and collage was largely supported by taxpayers.Today nearly 50% of kids go to collage. I worked a $4/hr job and nearly paid for my expenses. Not possible to work a part-time job today and pay for schooling . Times have changed. maybe high schools should do a better job of preparing kids for the working world and 50% of kids wouldn't have to go to post high school education.
but I keep coming back to the fact that i don't want to pay for any more schooling(for someone else's kids). I already paid for mine, my ex wife's, and about $ 90,000 for my three sons0
