I?m a little dinged up and my stomach/abdomen will probably look like a mashed eggplant tomorrow, but the worst is over. Had a good surgeon. Glad to have it in the rear view mirror. Not quite ready for a pepperoni pizza or greasy burger...yet.

I am quite relieved that your ordeal seems to have been completed problem free from admission to the ride home...
I know to well that unforeseen complications can lead to serious issues and an extended stay in the hospital...
I must admit it bothers me when one of you guys or someone in me circle has to be admitted or stay overnight - please let us know how things went - a brief synopsis of your stay and a report on the ordeal from your minds eye.

GB problems are not fun. Had mine out in 1995. Had several episodes and with each one they though I was having a heart attack, runs in the family. Was rushed to hospital at least four time by ambulance, one in the middle of a raging snow storm.
Finally DR says next time it happens lets do an ultrasound. Did US and found that GB was completely blocked up.
Had to to have emergency surgery and they cut me about 1 foot across my abdomen becuase they were concerned about the GB bursting.
That was the worse pain I ever had, was on morphine for two days. Broke many bones, stiches for many cuts and that never bothered me.

On it Sam...no time to be a damn slacker. Figuring a way to get back to work Monday. Will have to dump the body armor for awhile and work things out with my guys to avoid anything hands on ?til the incisions/muscles, etc get healed up. Not sure about my regular duty belt...weighs, with radio, around 14 lbs. Taking a hit to the gut right about now wouldn?t be a good thing.

Chris has had some complications related to his surgery. As of yesterday he was going back in to the Hospital. (Any further information, I feel should come from Chris.)
Please send good thoughts and Prayers his way for a speedy recovery.

Ah, just saw this update. Appreciate the good thoughts guys.
Mike, as so often happens, despite the best efforts of all involved. A simple gall bladder snatch ?n go ended up with a post op infection at one of the incision sites. Then something went sideways with my liver. They?re not sure if it?s a bile duct obstruction or something else. Ugh, bags of meds hung all over and getting xfered to University of Md hospital downtown in the morning for some addl body and fender work. The plan is to be back up here later in the day with a tentative escape on Tues.
Figures, nicest weekend of the summer, a thousand things need done, trying to make sure I schedule friends and my ex to look after my dad as well as my critters.
What makes this the most frustrating is that I can almost see my damn house from where I am. Just ?another day in the life?, gotta quit whining and move thru the problem.0 -
That's the one that almost did me in...
I had my tumor removal surgery and eventually that let me go home - 48 hours later I was in the ICU in a coma with a 106? fever - and a nice head lac that required stitches...
Turns out the docs say I picked up a nasty staff infection while in the hospital - it was going around despite efforts to eradicate it - in my case flesh eating bacteria...
Needless to say no fun - and regaining consciousness in the ICU but not understanding who I was or were I was and being unable to talk around a trach tube was a nightmare experience...

I must admit regaining awareness but realizing you have a pic line in each arm and they have plugged into your power port sub dermal implant - you are being fed through tubes and hydrated through tubes and medicated through tubes and have a catheter in and a breathing tube - and they are running 5 antibiotics simultaneously including 2 experimental ones...
And that your abdomen is hooked up to a wound vac floor unit - and they are getting ready to hang a bag of blood to transfuse...
Was what you could describe as a low point - a point of great distress and grief and sorrow and anxiety - a surreal feeling of being trapped and having things spiral out of control...
And somebody had switched the TV to MSNBC and you are unable to change the channel or mute the volume or power down and turn it off...
Chris I know you have this beat - and it's a temporary setback or a bump in the road - now amongst the nursing staff have you determined who you would rather :shock:
If they don't have you one severe dietary restrictions I strongly recommend ordering Dixie cups of ice cream - one chocolate and one vanilla - I find it easy to consume comfort food that won't upset things...
I hope that you will escape soon and be back in your own bed.
Hang in there - you have friends pulling for you.

University of Maryland is a great hospital. They treated my son after an accident and my best friend after a stroke. You are in good hands there. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Let me know if there is anything that I can do.0 -

Thanks guys. It was a long week but, after a Roto Rooter job on my liver yesterday afternoon and enough antibiotics to cure social diseases yet undiscovered, I'd had enough, been sitting on my butt too long, checked myself out late last night about 2245. It was just time to go. I'm still a bit dinged up and won't be going for a run in the next couple of weeks...but I'm outta there! I'll pick my dogs up after work and all will be right with the world, for now anyway.
Mike: The room gods smiled on me. somehow I ended up with a private corner room, two big windows, big bathroom/shower and flat screen. I could almost see my house from there. That didn't help with my aggitation a whole lot. The nurses were all great and many darn easy on the eyes. Turns out the one who ran interference for me while I made my get away and I have a mutual acquaintance in another state. She was a sweetheart, but it's a little tough to talk trash wearing just a hospital gown and a pair of Under Armours.0 -
Glad to hear your doing OK. It's no fun having your abdomen cut on.
It'll be 3 years next month that I had a foot of large intestine removed due to a blood clot that caused gangrene to set in. The really bad part about my surgery was I was awake though most of it and the doctors didn't know it. I could hear them talking but they couldn't hear me screaming.
I almost kicked the bucket but after 3 1/2 weeks in the hospital I pulled though despite the Grim Reaper walking the halls outside my room.0 -

Thanks Sam/Ken, gotta get myself back up to speed. Too much time wasted already. Lots of time out in the weeds Sam, One of my goals in life is to master walking thru a crowded room and nobody knows I was ever there. I''ll heal on the move 0 -

Glad to hear you are out and about.
Take it easy and rest when you can. You will have plenty of time to do crazy stuff once you heal.
